My room at Hotel Schaumberg was clean and simple, with an excellent view of a pretty historical brick building across the street nicely decorated for Christmas. It turned out to be the local jail! (There's also a famous Alberto Giacometti statue out front called "Maren" - it descends into the ground at night and rises up again in the morning, to protect it from vandalism.) I walked from Holsterbro train station, an easy 10-minute walk, but there is taxi service/parking at the back of the hotel. Front desk staff was friendly and breakfast was tasty, with good scrambled eggs and bacon. If you stay here, don't miss the big Larsen candy and chocolate shop, which is about a 2-minute walk from the back entrance of the hotel, right behind the newly-built cinema. I did a lot of my Christmas shopping there!…
Hotel is located on the pedestrian mall that runs through town center, GPS to address ends up on a dead-end street with no parking - but the hotel has a parking lot East of the mall accessed by the road along the city Swimming Center. Once the parking area was located, it was great because in that part of town there is very little parking available. Dated building, no elevator to get up to my room. Heat in room not controllable, had to leave the balcony door open to keep the room cool enough (in November). Room crowded with dated furnishing making the small space cluttered, plus rather dysfunctional. TV hung on a wall mount but protruding into the room making a hazard trying to walk into the room. Bathroom was acceptably clean but shower curtain was at least 12 inches too long meaning having to step on it as it covered part of the tub floor, not pleasant to trod upon who knows what is on the bottom of that curtain. Room had no hot water maker or coffee service. First time in Europe there was nothing in a room. Wifi service was above average, worked well with great speed. Restaurant and Bar are apparently separate businesses from hotel, can't charge anything from either to the room. Bar prices were outrageous, over $10 US for a simple local beer. Breakfast offered was a good variety and presented decently. Extremely expensive for what is offered - not worth it.…
Stayed here for 2 nights on business. Rooms are very modest (i.e. small), but clean and functional. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Staff was very nice -- lent me an iPhone charger for 2 nights. Location in center of town is excellent. Would get 5 starts if the rooms were bigger or had better views (mine looked onto the roof).. Also, no air conditioning = rooms can get warm in the summer.
I spent 2 nights at the hotel during business in Holstebro. Hotel is easy to locate, lots of parking, and check in was simple. Room was simple and clean, still with a crt TV, but it was a B&O! The bathroom needs a real update, the shower mixer unit and shower especially. There was no iron and ironing board, but the nice receptionist brought it up, and it was one of the best irons I've used at a hotel in a long time.... Makes a real difference. Breakfast was a buffet style, with cereals, cold and hot food, something for all. The hotel's located in the centre with shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance.
The Schaumburg Hotel is a bit difficult to reach according to the car navigation address, which is in a pedestrian zone! You can reach it from the backside via a large urban place, but you known this normally only after having parked elsewhere and been informed by the receptionist! Nice modern rooms. Quiet, elevator. No restaurant, which is not good for an alleged 4 star hotel.
