The long weekend in July deserved a family outing. It was hard to decide where to go and will it be safe and a place near Kitwe so that holidays don't become tiring affair with long drive. This place is 3.30 hours away from Kitwe. The plan was to make it as base and do a day trip to either to Nudubaluba Centre for some adventure or a visit to Kundalila falls. Both of which were scrapped in favour of relaxing on the hotel grounds by none else then our 12,15 year old boys. There was no one else staying so the whole place was for us . The lovely lawns with miombo trees invited one for picnic and naps ,which was really relaxing after non stop work stress ,online teaching learning of last few months. Food prepared by Honest, the chef is surprisingly tasty and can match the food quality of anyother chef in Zambia. He was able to prepare veg meals for me which honestly is challening to get and a delight to find. The stuffed omlette was appetising and filling breakfast. The place is not really cheap and does not have amenties like TV,Bar fridge in room for the rates .Neither was the breakfast included in the rates .One can pay using card. The dining room was closed but the outdoor dinning space was operational. The gardner has mentained the hotel grounds well though some parts are dry but there are nice nooks and corners with well cared ornamental flower beds. I called Natalie ,the receptionist to book and she kindly allowed me usage of kitchen to prepare for my veg food (which I didn't had to,Thanks Honest)She also allowed usto have a look at family chalet and other rooms before we made our mind.We went for 2 rooms as family chalet were too small . There are camping area with gazebo, braai, toilets.

Forest Inn is literally just of the T2 main road. Great for convenience and finding it.
It's a simple wooded camping area, not very far off the main road.
We set up our Hiluxes for a night there, the usual facilities with plenty of wood for campfires. There was noone else there when we arrived - mid July.
There’s not much around, this is simply someone to stop before moving on.
Decent showers, it felt safe and secure. The nearby road wasn’t a major problem for noise.
Given we had a birthday the morning we left, we decided to have a treat and eat breakfast in the little restaurant/ bar. It was slow, and underwhelming. Not recommended.
wings with a penchant for flying into the campfire - it is fire suicide. My teen son ordered the croissants. There was only one portion of these left and when they arrived we got one of our ‘quotes of the trip’ with him saying, prior to calling the waiter over and ordering a fry up, “Mum, you cannot tell me this is breakfast". The croissants were those little baby ones you get, and a serving was two.

A great stopover on the main TanZam highway. The Inn is quiet with excellent camping and plenty of places to walk and unwind at the end of a long day of travelling. Also a great place to get a cold beer!

Now called Fika Lodge but just as good, this is a calm and comfortable escape from the hell of the Great North Road. Big family rooms are good value - and everyone heading north seems to stop here so it’s a great place to meet locals. Dinner was good and the shady site under trees is welcome.

Stayed two nights again. Small, camping site, which is compact. Nice Lapa with good facilities, but crowded if you aren’t with your mates. Short of hot water in the ladies ablution block. Otherwise good clean facilities.

Sorry to say that at $60 for a double room I though this place over priced. The room was very average, in fact quite shabby and the duvet cover was dirty and stained. The food portions were stingy, barely adequate for an evening meal. Compared to a locally run lodge with aircon, dstv and a full cooked breakfast for $40 not good value.

We've stayed here several times over the years and found it to be clean and hospitable and in a wonderful woodland setting. On our last visit we thought it needed a bit of 'tender loving care' as it is starting to look a bit run down. The breakfasts are wholesome and the meal menus, while limited, has a nice variety of dishes. It's the perfect stopover after a long drive.

The best place to stop between Kapiri and Nakonde. It is set in a beautiful Miombo woodland and the food is simple but freshly prepared. Most importantly for me was that it was clean something most places along this Route lack!

We stayed there a couple of nights in August. We didn't planned to stop there. We had been obliged by a mechanical problem with our vehicle (rented). After we spent a night in the middle of nowhere about 30kms from Forest Inn due to the engine problem, we reckoned there was a lodge close to Mkushi, Forest Inn. We were towed there the day after and we decided to stay there waiting for a new vehicle subsitution. The lodge is very nice, it's located within a very well managed "forest", very clean and relaxing. There is also a campsite just in the middle of the park. The restaurant is not bad, very basic although aligned with african standards. Personnel is very nice and helpful. Also rooms are very basic and would deserve some maintenance. For sure it's not a top market lodge and it canot be compared with lodges in the major parks. But for sure it can be taken ion serious consideration for a stop there, a good stay at a fair price.
