The hotel is old fashioned and desperately in need of modernisation. Our ninth floor room was very basic, with a small balcony and a fabulous view over the sea. The bathroom was dated and in need of a good clean, especially the floor. Our over-the-bath shower stopped working and although it was reported to reception it wasn’t repaired. On the positive side, the beds were made up daily. Access to the beach is by three different lifts and finally a steep flight of steps. Not suitable if you have difficulty walking. Breakfast is a very confusing buffet style. As well as a continental style breakfast they provide fried eggs, beans and bacon but it is always almost cold. The drinks machines need filling more regularly to cope with the number of guests using them. Sesimbra is a lovely resort but eating out is a problem if you can’t eat fish. We queued for an hour to get into a small pizza restaurant and eventually found a lovely Chinese restaurant further away from the beach. However, we won’t stay at this hotel again. …
Hotel is dated/worn with old furniture and interior, but be extra aware of really hard beds. Shower/bathtub in our room was so old that it feels filthy. Location is good, and the view is awesome. Most of the staff we met were at best uninterested, and at worst rude. Also jo minibar in the rooms, and no room service, but that might be ok since everything is very pricy in this hotel. We were told no check in until 3pm, but it was running even later. Sauna and indoor pool were dirty, and we didnt bother testing them. Outdoor pool area is fine, but felt like there was a general lack of sunbeds.…
Stayed here on a family holiday with ages ranging from 12 to 57. Pros - Hotel was extremely clean Room was spacious View from the balcony was fab (room 726) Location is good Breakfast had a good selection Cons - Check in was slow (we arrived late around 11:30pm and were anxious to get to bed after a long journey and the man on reception left us waiting while he answered two phone calls) We pre-ordered a taxi one day for 8 people to go to the shopping outlet and the receptionist screwed it up ordering a normal sized taxi and then told us that it wasnt possible to get a taxi for 8 people - at this stage it was too late for us to get a bus and the cost of 2 separate taxis was ridiculous It's a bit of a maze trying to get out of the hotel near the beach side Wasnt any entertainment in the hotel other than a piano player one night in the bar …
This hotel is a 30 minute walk to the centre of Cascais. But it has good views over the Atlantic. It is also a short walk to Guincho, which has a lot of restaurants over the rocks, giving a wide choice of meals. The buffet in the do Mar is gloomy. It looks out over the indoor swimming pool. It also becomes frantic, when the coachloads of Spanish tourists all arrive together, because they have to take breakfast before their tour bus departs. In our case, they were schoolchildren, six to a room and paying just a small fraction of what we paid. In June, the indoor pool is cool, the outdoor pool cold and the Jacuzzi - brrrr/. Pestana does not waste money on heating the pools - so when the sum doesn`t shine .... The hotel runs a minibus to Cascais bus station (weekdays only), from where you can get a train into Lisbon and eventually to and from the airport. This may be preferred to the €55 that some tourists paid for a taxi. This is a low price hotel with above average facilities and location. It is fine if you like to walk. Staff are a bit lazy: so when the pool bar is not open (most of the time) you will need to go in one floor and up to another to get a drink.…
Wanting to get away for a couple of days, I decided to take J to Sesimbra, where he'd never been before. We managed to get a last minute room @Hotel do Mar and were positively surprised with the size of the room, the balcony and especially the view. The hotel is huge and all the staff we came into contact with was really nice, polite and professional. A very nice point of this hotel is the elevator access down to the main street (yes, I know... I'm lazy) ;) The bad point is the bedding: the matress was very, very hard and bouncy which means, each time J moved, I jumped and that didn't make for a comfortable relaxing night. Also, the pillows are sooooooooooo soft that, even with 2 under my had, it gave no neck or back support whatsoever. Otherwise, our stay was delightful and we will go back for sure!…
