#1 of 2 hotels in Funzi Island
Temporary closed- closed for renovearation. Tucked away on a private peninsula of Funzi Island, The Funzi Keys' unique appeal is its luxurious seclusion and beautiful natural scenery, where the sight of local fishing dhows sailing by evokes colourful images of Swahili history and timeless traditions. Superbly located on a private, west-facing beach with glorious views of the African sunset, this is the perfect place to escape from the outside world in style. Accessible by a convenient 15 minute air transfer from Mombasa, or a short distance by road and hotel boat from Diani with its daily air services from Nairobi and the Maasai Mara. The accommodation consists of eight Sea-view Cottages and nine Beach-front Cottages. Each of the Sea-view cottages is shaded under a lofty thatched roof, fronted by a sandy terrace. The spacious, deluxe Beach-front Cottages also boast a jacuzzi with the sandy beach on the door-step. Two of these cottages have extensions specially designed for children, complete with their own en suite facilities. Life at The Funzi Keys is relaxed and many guests do little more than unwind by the spectacular free-form pool or laze on the pristine white sandbank with chilled drinks and a good book. The more energetic guests can enjoy sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and creek fishing or perhaps take a boat trip up the Ramisi River or Funzi Creek in search of brilliant kingfishers, crocodiles and dolphins. The hotel also has its own luxury deep sea fishing yacht. The essence of The Funzi Keys is bare-foot luxury and total informality.

I was there in 2016 for a weekend and it was an amazing experience, isolated and lovely! The sun shines beautifully in the mornings and the couple who owns it are very welcoming and lovely. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to retreat.

this place has been the worst experience of my life!! It was a nightmare!!! I will never in my life visit this place even if I am offered a free vacation. The service is terrible, the staff are terrible too and treat you so badly and make you feel soooo unwelcome. I wish i wouldn't have wasted my holiday here and instead would have gone to much better places at much better prices than this. Its arip off, not worth the money.

This review has been long overdue, but we finally get to write it. We first stayed at Funzi Keys in 2011 and were wowed by the place, it was a simple small family run hotel, had a rustic feel to it and yet still luxurious. Come March 2015 when my husband and I decided to finally tie the knot, the first place that came to mind was this lovely place. Months prior to September which was to be our wedding day, Claudia and Alessandro Torriani invited us to their lovely home for a working lunch and we got to discuss the wedding preparations, layout, accommodation arrangemnets, our daily personalized food menus as well as each of our guests health and dietary requirements. We booked just about all the bungalows at Funzi for 42 guests including ourselves for 3 nights 4 days, except one bungalow which had been booked in advance by some newly weds. On the first day, all our guests arrived at different times from both Diani and Mombasa airports and even then Funzi team was hands on in the coordination of all the pick ups from the Shirazi jetty throughout the day with the last guests finally arriving at 7.30pm. On the wedding day, everything went as planned, the florist (Forget Me Not), the photographer (Mike Atkelsky), videographers (Berea Productions) and finally the Priest all arrived on time. As the wedding ceremony was on the Sandbank, everything had to be transported (a 5 minute boat ride) and set up as soon as the tide went down at 12 noon. It was such perfect day and the weather was beautiful. The ceremony went well thanks to the Funzi team who were all on standby making sure that everything went as planned. Their two adorable children, Cincia their daughter helped with the wedding dress while their son Luciano stepped in as our new ring bearer when our 2 year old guest''changed his mind''. The ceremony was followed by a photo and video shoot session and champagne and canapés on the sandbank. This went great and finally we had a seafood themed barbecue dinner and cutting of the cake(by ''Cake Art'') on the beach. For having hosted 42 guests all in one go and pulled off a sandbank wedding that was dependant on tidal changes, well I must say the Funzi Team made our wedding so special, their staff were great with everything, the food was lovely and we couldn't have asked for more. They went way well above our expectations and in the end everyone was happy happy. If ever there was something like a second wedding, then we would definitely do it all over again at the Funzi Keys. We no doubt recommend this beautiful slice of Paradise to anyone planning a destination wedding in the near future.

Imagine a place with no roads but well-manicured sand footpaths, no human traffic other than the people serving you, no police station, no polling station, no vehicles, no planes, where you don’t need padlocks, nudity is not a crime....That Funzi keys. The cottages are awesome and all the meal customized. The staff are amazing led by the Owner Claudia, very dedicated and committed to serve. Great activities for everything one; swimming, fishing, canoeing, visiting sand banks among other...
