Detailed Reviews
Supper at the Gonubie Hotel.
Fish and Chips on the menu.
I have been around and often order ‘fish and chips’, but this was probably the best I have had in years!!
The food was well prepared… just enough batter, not oily and a nice portion size.
Service was great and all at a fair price!!
Thank you Gonubie Hotel!

The hotel has a lovely homely feeling. I had a quiet peaceful very comfortable night. The road outside my room wasn't busy and the sound of the sea is awesome.
The reception was very friendly. The waiters however need a bit of work on customer relations.
Overall a lovely stay.

The Gonubie Hotel in the quaint seaside town of Gonubie near East London, is perfectly situated.....just meters from the beach. I always stay here when in East London. The en-suite rooms are comfortable and clean. Avoid the rooms closest to the bar. Can be a bit rowdy at times. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast always includes fresh seasonal fruit and fresh homemade bakes from the kitchen. The Deck restaurant and bar has a local vibe with stunning sea views. The perfect location for sundowners. Great value for money. Highly recommended.

Just be careful
We booked for 10 persons for 1 Jan 2021
Did the Strandloper Hike from Kei mouth to Gonubie. 1st day on the hike got the message that they decided to close the hotel and we had to make alternative arrangements.
We paid in full plus an additional breakage deposit.
Then they deducted 10% admin fee!
No assistance or help offered to find alternative accommodation.

+1
The hotel room was not clean, untidy and not well kept.
The first night I checked in, the room was boiling hot( the window was facing the sun), with no aircon and the room was very stuffy. I struggled sleeping.
I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

A great location, but .... we found the family suites to be dirty, dingy, & in disrepair. Add to that mouldy, manky, & musty - very disappointing. This was the second time we've stayed here over a couple of years; there won't be a third.
The bedding & linen doesn't look like it's been changed in a decade; the carpets are sticky & the burger bars falling off; there's broken ironmongery & leaking taps; half the inventory is missing or dysfunctional; all with service that is greasy & grouchy. Not to mention the rancid breakfast coffee.
Rather book one of the smaller B&B's in the village. Come here for a sundowner on the deck. That's all.

We have often had a lunch at the deck of the Gonubie Hotel and it has always been great, Last week a group of us friends eleven in total had lunch there some had fish and chips, and calamari chips and salad, combo fish, vegetable platter, chicken , all the food was fantastic and the service was great, the food here is always good and clean and we have never had a bad meal here yet, and to get to the deck you don't have to walk through the bar there is a ramp from the street side going all the way up. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a peaceful lunch with a great view of the sea.

Recently had a meal in the hotel's restaurant. The food was terrible. The lady chef seemed more interested to sit in the bar chatting than preparing food. The food was tasteless, absolutely horrible. Stay away.
