We stayed in Okanti, the self catering house a couple of hundred metres from the Barken Dune Chalets. The house is very spacious, with plenty of outside space. On the lower floor is a bedroom with three single beds and a lovely en-suite bathroom with a sunken bath. All tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Great quality beds and bedlinen. Upstairs is a large open plan sitting, dining kitchen, study area. There is also a large bedroom with king size bed. All rooms have the most wonderful views. The terraces look down the valley, and you can dine outside, barbecue and just laze about looking in wonder at the stunning landscape. We were told the property was going to be renovated as it was felt to be a bit dated compared to the rest of the lodge. We felt the bedrooms, bathrooms and terraces needed no work at all. They stylish and comfortable. The open plan kitchen, dining, living area were very decent too. Perhaps not as modern as the rest of the lodge, but certainly comfortable and well equipped. We were welcomed to use the pool, fat bikes, restaurant and all the other facilities in the same way as other guests. The fat bikes were a great way to see the area, and good fun too. The meerkats were a absolute delight. Our children loved them, as did I. I'd not hesitate to recommend a stay here.

We spent three days at the old Kuanga Kuanga cottage at the head of the valley. It was the perfect end to our time in Namibia and our only regret is that we did not spend more time there. The Klipspringer Hike to the peak overlooking the valley also gives a spectacular view to the west of the Namib desert. What really sets Barkhan apart is the warm hospitality of all the staff. We will be back.

The kindness and hospitality we experienced from the team at Barkhan Dune Retreat went far beyond what we ever could have hoped for or expected. Our hire car broke down, in what was an empty road, miles from a village, in blazing sun, and we thought we were in big trouble. What could have been a calamity was turned into one of the most memorable experiences on our first trip around Namibia. Only a minute or two after we had stopped, a pick-up truck stopped behind us and the driver asked if we needed help. He turned out to be the owner of Barhan Dune Retreat and neighbouring properties. Not only did he take us back to BDR but members of the team there mended our car while we were treated us to coffee on the veranda and given a tour. They could not have been more kind, thoughtful and friendly. Our offer of payment were politely refused and we were told it was a pleasure to extend Namibian hospitality to travellers in trouble. The Retreat is in the most stunning location and we want to go back there as soon as we can to stay for at least a week.

Amazing! Great setting. Immaculately maintained. Friendly, helpful staff. Loved the rooms set into the ground and if you felt like it ,wheel your bed outside and sleep under the stars. Would definitely visit again.

You are looking for a piece of heaven. Then you are right at Barkhan. In the middle of nowhere, in a beautiful landscape near Solitär you find these place full of peace any quitness. You will be welcom by your hosts Gerda and Nick and two calm meerkats and you will join every second of your stay. Beautiful located cottages, outstanding food and real hospitalety at its best. Join the Farmdrive, a Big Ebike Trip in the desert or a trip to the dunes of Soussousflei. But take care. It will hurts when you have to leave afre a couple of days. Just gone and looking forwart to be back soob.. Thanks to Gerda and Nick and Team. Zölfl family

We spent two nights here - with my wife and young son. I would very highly recommend this place. The location and setting is excellent but what really make this place magical is the super hospitality. Gerda and Niekie are excellent hosts and go out of their way to make sure that guests are comfortable. The place is very well run with everything just perfect. The food was excellent and the local advice and guidance given by the two of them was exceptional. Overall we had a great time and having been to Namibia a few times now, not sure how we missed this place in the past. It’s is the most perfect setting with the most excellent management.

This was our 2nd visit to Barkhan Dune Retreat and again we were absolutely blown away by the breathtaking views, luxurious accommodation and the warm, welcoming reception. We chose to stay at Onkanti this time, a private self-catering bungalo that is equipped with everything you need. We love this place and hope to go back sooner rather than later.

Peaceful setting with beautiful surroundings. This is a place home away from home where one feels relaxed in a very homely environment. The hosts Nicki and Gerda made us feel so welcome with their friendly and efficient service. The eco friendly and self sustainable set up is a big bonus. Food was made with fresh greens daily, absolutely delicious.
