The setting is pretty but that’s about it. The manageress is rude. The main house is in a shocking state of a lack of maintenance. Flat, musty, old stained pillows, paper thin old towels, curtains that are perished and old peeling paint everywhere. The carpets are very stained and the furniture needs recovering. Very tired and sad, didn’t feel like a treat to stay there at all. Only few rooms have cupboard space and a mirror. Cupboards that are in the rooms are filled with the owners junk. We arrived on a chilly evening and were told to buy our own fire lighters and make our own fire in the lounge. Would have been a nice touch to arrive to a warm cosy house. Load shedding happened a little while after we arrived and they could only provide 2 lights for a 5 bedroom sprawling large house. Not even so much as a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. So much could be improved with a lick of paint….it has so much potential. Definitely won’t return and would never recommend that someone stay there. Honestly the most grotty place I’ve ever stayed in and we certainly don’t stay in fancy places when we go away.…
I liked the heating and daily service. I booked direct asking for accommodation where I am not alone in the bush. I was alone in the bush. Nothing done about mice. Reception closed at 4pm and then the Pondo and reception employees turn their back on you. Free afternoon tea with cake in order to meet other guests did not work-there is no people. You are asked to take only One or two cookies- Just like a little child. I did lots of hikes alone and voiced a need for help should I run into trouble in the mountains. Request was ignored. It was very easy I Just had to report to reception on leaving and coming back. There was no coffee, tea, etc. They charged R6 for a Jacobs sachet which costs R2. There is no wifi, Tv or cellphone reception.
We had a fantastic weekend at Mount Park. We were there for a wedding. The venue is set in spectacular scenery. The Bull and Spiers restaurant serves delicious homemade food, all very reasonable prices. As a wedding venue the barn was lovely and rustic. Sally and Ian Field are great hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in the main house, which is perfect for a big group of friends. Just an amazing chilled weekend. Thank you for helping making our trip in South Africa so memorable. We will be back!
We decided spontaneously to get up on Saturday morning and go to climb the Inhlosane mountain which we can see from my farm in Hilton. We thought that the walk started at the Everglades resort so drove the mere 35 km from Hilton to there but to our dismay the hotel was totally deserted🤔so we turned to trusty Google and found the number for Mount Park guest farm right next door. The hike up the mountain starts there now. We were warmly received by Sally on reception and directed to the hike. We saw the beautiful camping and rustic lodging they have and were jealous that we hadn’t known about it before. We did the 3 hr amazing hike and when we got back we had amazing cold beers at the Bull and Speir restaurant at the base. We enquired if a camp site was available and lucky they had one so we decided to stay . What s great decision. The camp sites are located around a 180 year old oak and are super clean and quiet. I give it a 12 out of 10…
We were not impressed by the bad maintenance and the size of the rats in the walls of the cottage that we had for two nights - they kept us up for most of the nighttime. When it rained (which was often!), water poured into the cottage through the roof. The scenery is beautiful, but this is overshadowed by the bad maintenance. We chose to rather drive around for the two days that we were booked at this venue in an attempt to get the time to pass. The hosts are friendly, but promises of future improvement do not deliver a good experience (especially if one already paid for the stay)...
We were warmly greeted on our arrival and given advice and a map to follow on our hike up the mountain. The paths were well maintained and signposted and we had the most wonderful day climbing to the top of Inhlosane from where we could see all the way to the Drakensberg mountains. Returning to the farm we were advised to help ourselves to very welcome coffee and biscuits. Such a special day and we'll certainly be back to try one of the other 7 hikes on offer.
We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Mount Park. Could not have asked for more. The owners and staff are especially helpful and if you are not in the mood to cook the restaurant is great. The walks are well signposted and cleared. Will definitely revisit.
I don't often go to the trouble of writing a review, but I felt absolutely compelled to after this wheekend away camping at Mount Park Guest Farm. What a little piece of heaven! We arrived after dark on Friday evening and was greeted by the amazing Robson who greeted us in such a friendly and homely manner, even remembering my name. He immediately offered us a complimentary cup of coffee, which he promptly delivered to our campsite, together with some biscuits. The entire property is so well kept and clean with a lot of attention to detail. There is such an amazingly relaxing atmosphere that we spent most of the weekend just relaxing. There is however a wide variety of activities to keep oneself busy, from a little trout dam, children's play area and animals and bunnies to feed, to some very nice hiking trails. There is also complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits at the restaurant every afternoon. This highlight of the entire weekend was however the way the staff go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. This was truly such a pleasure staying at Mount Park. So much so that we only just returned and are already comparing dates with our family members to see when we'll be able to go again. Can't wait to go back.…
I booked in Mount Park for one night. They asked me to pay the total amount with bank transference, otherwise the reservation couldnt be done. I did it and then had a problem and couldnt get there. They say they would stay with the total amount of the booking. They should have other ways of making a reservation. Its really unfair to the client.
We started our hike of Inhlosane from Mount Park Guest Farm and were warmly welcomed and educated about the hike. They cut the paths so well and provide you with a great map. A thoroughly positive experience. Thank you.
