Very comfortable stay, excellent service, and a delightful couple. In such a great area and very accessible. With a lovely outside area in a peaceful garden to relax with a heated pool and seating to enjoy Cape Town’s summer weather.

Disappointing experience over Christmas and New Year. Whilst Southey Cottage is a good location in the Southern Suburbs tucked away from visiting tourists over the peak holiday season - I thought it is only good for short stays and business, certainly not for long periods or visitors from abroad. I reserved two rooms for my husband and I and friends from England. The website photographs are quite misleading - there were no views from either rooms - and whilst visitors were allowed to use the pool there were no outside facilities over the summer evenings to sit outside - as we were told this was the family private area. We asked if we could sit outside in front of the house - basically where all the cars were parked - and as it was peak season - the space was full of visitors cars - much like sitting in a car park - with no view of the mountain - so prettily displayed in the photographs. The rooms were very basic - we were told on arrival that they no longer served breakfast and that we were not allowed to cook in the rooms - even though there were facilities. Not a problem for short term visitors on business however for longer term visitors (we stayed 13 nights) who do not want to stay out all day and have breakfast, lunch and dinner out - it wasn't comfortable. We spent a few evenings outside - with ready made snacks from the supermarket. The cutlery and crockery was basically that of picnic standard - rather embarrassing so - I spent money on decent glasses as well as napkins etc to use at the table outside. There are no laundry facilities which may be okay for short term but again for visitors from abroad - one had to use a laundry - not a nice way to spend time on holiday. Whilst we would have moved if I could have found alternative accommodation in peak holiday season, we made the best of it. The other drawback was that the owners Rose and Tim, in my opinion did not expect visitors to spend any time (other than in the rooms) on the property. Whilst we were allowed to sit at the table in the front (in the car park) a couple of times, the owner Tim came out to check and ask whose cars were outside - and asked us to keep the noise down as we were probably disturbing the other guests. (There were 6 of us plus their other guests) So whilst the accommodation was clean and basic, the experience was very disappointing and not one I could recommend.

Was told that the room had DSTV, there was none. Upon arrival we told the owner Tim that we would be requiring a late checkout of 5pm, which we were assured was no problem at all. However by 4pm there was a loud banging on the door and the wife Rose was shouting for someone to open up. When I did she was quite rude and told me that I should have vacated the morning already. Miscommunication or what? Not a very pleasant stay, would not go again and would NOT recommend to anyone

We had a very comfortable stay and the hosts are very warm and welcoming. A beautiful flatlet and all our needs were met. The location is superb! We'll definitely be returning. Beautiful garden setting.

I arrived at Southey Cottage having booked via a travel agent a few weeks prior. There didn't seem to be anyone at home so I waited in the driveway as I pressed the buzzer. After a few minutes, the couple drove up behind me and asked me what I wanted. Upon confirming that I had booked with them, I could see the wife vigorously nodding her head and making a face to say no. They then made me reverse out of the driveway and park on the deserted street despite their huge empty parking lot. I enquired as to why they would not let me park inside and they said they needed to verify my status first. The husband insisted that it was one of the richest areas in Cape Town and I had no reason to fear leaving my car on the street. Why they thought I, a single lady, posed a threat and couldn't let me park on their property I do not know. They then disappeared into the house and came back outside to tell me they had never heard of me, despite me having email evidence of my booking and being armed with the wife's name and number. They did however invite me in for a few minutes (but I had to leave my car on the street) to charge my phone which was unfortunately dead. To cut a long story short, they said they were full and could only offer me a couch then the wife began to call around to find me somewhere else to stay. Eventually she 'found' me a place, all the while telling me how lucky I was she was able to assist in some way as it was a busy week in Cape Town. All in all, very disorganized, condescending and downright rude. I was glad to have dealt with their negativity for only a few minutes. Avoid this place.

Comfortable, convenient and outstanding hospitality.

Thanks for your friendliness, Rose. You were so warm and welcoming, helping us arrange cars/ taxi's as well as guiding us to some lovely restaurants in the area. We are definitely taking our memories to share with our friends and family.

Your cottage will come highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing stay we had- we stayed in January 2014 but have only just found on trip advisor:-) we arrived early and couldn't have been made to feel more at home. It was a stunning place to stay :-) the pool and garden area were also lovely and the view stunning. It was very centrally located and very easy for a trip to Kerstinbosh and to the vineyards. The shopping mall is also only a 5min drive away. Would highly recommend this little gem :-)
