There is a place in Africa where the Big-5 still roam freely. It is a world of silence and tranquility, where the busy modern world ceases to exist. Where the great tuskers still tramp their ancient pathways through indigenous forest and tall, yellow grass. The rest of the Big Five also find their home here; lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo, more than 360 bird species and myriad other animals and plants. There you will find a place called Marulani Bush Lodge, with warm African hospitality, classic safari food and world-class personal service. Situated in the center region of the malaria free Dinokeng Big-5 Game Reserve, only 98km from O R Tambo International Airport (48km north of Pretoria) on the N1 Platinum Highway and easily accessible by sedan on well-maintained roads. I treated my daughter and her UK partner (unfortunately, my son and his UK partner were unable to join us) to a few days in Dinokeng. The time frame prevented a trip to KNP. What an experience, and all thanks to Riaan and Debbie from Marulani Bush Lodge. Our accommodation was lovely; the bush lodge is ideally located in the Game Reserve, but the highlight for us were the personal game drives with Riaan. Riaan turned each game drive (one early morning and one late afternoon/evening) into an African adventure, with his vast knowledge of the bushveld, its ecology and the resident fauna and flora found in the various ecosystems. Debbie provided snacks and we celebrated supper with rhino's!!!! We will definitely be back and I can highly recommend all at Marulani Bush Lodge for your next SA game drive holiday.

Lovely rustic 3-bedroom accommodation with patio for alfresco dining, a hide where we could view animals drinking at the waterhole and great bush garden for exploring and playing soccer. Very friendly and helpful owners and staff. The owners offer a very good game drive (additional charge) which I highly recommend. The house is very well equipped with furniture, kitchen items and aircon. Future guests should be aware that only the main bedroom has bedside lamps (Overhead light only in other bedrooms) and the house has a single step down into bedrooms and bathroom - both these things causing difficulty for my mother who has mobility difficulties.

My 91-year old mother and I stayed in Haak en Steek cottage in Marulani for 4 nights over New Year. The cottage was Spacious Clean, Interestingly furnished with old South African relics, Friendly and Well Located looking out over the waterhole, with the perimeter fence (electrified) right on the veranda wall. Many animals viewed while sitting over sundowners. And private from the neighboring cottages! The game drives were particularly enjoyable. Riaan, who grew up in the bush, has an in-depth knowledge of all the animals - their habitats, habits, what they ate, how the herd worked, mating rituals, birdlife, grasses and trees. He went out of his way to find and show us rare and particular game. We had rare sightings of black rhino, white rhino, lion, buffalo, bushpig, and baby ostriches among many others - each explained and embroidered with interesting information and titbits (and the drive went almost an hour over time!) We had a fantastic, interesting, restful and friendly 4 days at Marulani. Highly recommended! Thanks Riaan and crew Amos and Debbie

We had a lovely weekend stay at Malrulani Bush lodge. The accommodation is modest, neat and very comfortable, offering you everything you need for a restful stay with each unit in the camp offering seclusion/privacy. Staff are friendly, helpful and keep to themselves. And the game drives offered are a must!! What appealed to me the most is how quiet the camp was, allowing us to truly enjoy the sights and sounds of the bushveld from our unit that sat right on the fence. I will certainly return for another visit.

First off - soon after arrival we noticed the air conditioner was leaking water all over the pillow-part of the bed. Reported is and only late afternoon (after 7) they arrived, and they worked on it till after dark. We had to sit outside while they were working inside and outside - stripping the aircon, cleaning, vacuuming etc etc. Appears lack of maintenance / service caused dust to accumulate in various drainpipes - causing water that should have run out to overflow onto the bed. Saturday evening the leaking started again so we just moved the bed against a different wall. Secondly - on day 2 "new arrivals" appeared in the "main house" (owners lodgings). Man with loud voice could occasionally be heard clearly from way over there. Even scared animals away while I was sitting in the "look-out" - which unfortunately is right next to the owners lodgings. I nearly took photos of kudus, wildebeest and impala but they ran off before they reached the watering hole because of the noise. Loud mouth, kid screaming and dog barking spoiled the experience for me. I went to the bush for quiet. Upon enquiry about loud mouth Abby informed us they are friends of the owner. Well mister owner - if not for my wife I would have left on day 2 and demanded a refund. I will definitely not recommend Marulani to anyone! Loud people, screaming kids and barking dogs could be expected to book in. They will spoil your bush experience!

Nice little chalet, little basic but was perfect for a quiet weekend away but would only recommend for at maximum a long weekend not a full week. Very peaceful which was exactly what we wanted. Went on game drive and whilst the animals were a little unco-operative still manged to see quite a bit with our guide trying very hard to find animals for us to see. We will definitely go back.

What an absolutely fantastic self-catering lodge in Dinokeng! My family spent a long weekend at the Hak & Steek unit and we felt right at home. Has everything a self-catering unit needs to make your stay comfortable and relaxed. The patio overlooking the watering hole is such a sight to behold in the afternoons watching the animals come in for a drink - we spotted Zebra, warthog, wildebeest & impala whilst enjoying sundowners and a braai. The outside shower is simply sublime. We took an option of a game drive and had Coenie as our guide who was well knowledgeable, engaging and friendly. Definitely a must visit for bush lovers and those who want to start venturing into the bush. Marulani is a winner!!

Hak & Steek has a excellent position. Clean & neat inside the cottages. We saw lots of animals around the Lodge. Elelphant pass 4 metres away from the Bird hide twice, giraff, zebras etc. Kids enjoy exploring and trials inside the Lodge. Definitly going to visit the Lodge again! Staff is very helpful and friendly.

This is a nice place to stay. The only big let down is that there were no beverages available in the room (coffee, tea, sugar) which has a negative impact on the perceived value for money (average). You might improve on this to move the value to excellent!
