Safari tent- Absolutely incredible! They added so many comforts and fantastic attention to detail.
Kitchen area had plenty of dishware and cooking utensils for the two of us. Large fridge for all our food, microwave and convection oven worked well.
Boma was fantastic with a lil starter wood ready for us and they kindly offered wood for purchase at a great price.
Philip and Cynthia warmly welcomed us and Adeline was so kind and attentive later when we met.
We appreciated the ambience and hospitality so much we decided to stay another night

We stayed in the hideaway cottage and really enjoyed our time there. The unit is extremely well equipped. You can tell everything has been well thought out. We especially appreciated the games and blankets on all the outside chairs.
It was rainy and cold when we were there so we didn’t get to enjoy the pool. But we did sit around the fire most nights and were so impressed that every morning the fire pit was cleaned out and the wood was stacked again. Such a lovely touch.
The only negative is that there is almost zero Vodacom signal in and around the unit. Now, I realise that you go away to be away from phones etc. But if you’re leaving kids/pets etc behind it’s nice to know that someone can get hold of you if necessary. They do have WiFi. However it was not working while we were there.

The deluxe unit was beautifully appointed, immaculate, clean, and well serviced. I would recommend this lodge without any reservation and we will be going back in future.
Unfortunately this review page does not allow for comments to be addressed directly to the operator thus the following inclusion.
Getting the hot water in the shower to be consistent was a challenge and requires some patience even though there is no lack of hot water.
Kettle did not work because of the manner in which the power is supplied to it.
Please put handles on the cupboards because not all of the touch releases do not work as they should.
A suggestion is to put some form of a door on the ally that leads from the parking to the fireplace because the wind does howl through there.

I took my mother to iKhaya Lamdube as a birthday gift last month and it was absolutely delightful. I have not seen my mother smile like that all year. The drive there was a little difficult for me in a small car, but the lodge itself made up for it. We stayed in the luxury villa which was so beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. The kitchen was well equipped with top of the range appliances which made self catering easy. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming. The patio looked out onto a popular watering hole and we saw so many animals without having to leave the comfort of our beautiful room. The owner made contact with us daily to inform us of interesting animal sightings and ensure that we were having a comfortable stay. I look forward to going back again soon and will cherish the memories of the tranquility I felt sharing such a beautiful experience with my mother.

Thank you to iKhaya lamaDube Game Lodge & their staff for making our stay so welcoming and comfortable. Once you enter the premises, from feeling the Johannesburg "rat race" stressors, instantly the staffs' energy and professionalism guarantees you a feeling of calm and that you are in good hands. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are also so grateful for how helpful and thorough the staff were with communication and making sure our room was comfortable and well organized. We really loved the set up of our room and the finishing touches to make one feel extra special and comfortable. Thank you!

We visited iKhaya Lamadube’s Luxury Villas for the first time during March 2020 for our wedding anniversary. The Villas are stylishly decorated. The attention to detail by the hosts and staff is exquisite and the staff / hosts are super helpful. The kitchen is equipped with every utensile and appliance that you could possibly need. Each Villa has a private pool and boma area, in addition to an undercover braai/stoep and inside cole stove. We saw ample game from the conveniece of our stoep (with watering hole close by) - no need to drive around aimlessly. We would recommend visiting iKhaya Lamadube any day! Thanks for making our anniversary special Tienie, Gerd & staff!

Perfect location for short or long stays. We only stayed 2 days but because of the location we were able to do a safari trip and a evening Braai at the lodge.
Be aware to bring your own breakfast, lunch, coffee, snacks, dinner... 'self-supply' is 'self-supply' at this lodge. Thats fine!, but good to know, we came prepared.

Dear all,
Please avoid iKhaya LamaDube Lodge in Dinokeng Game Reserve at all costs.
I contacted this venue last week regarding a quote and did not receive a reply.
Knowing that lockdown is slowing down replies at lodges, I gave them a call today and spoke to what seemed to be the owner to find out if he received my email.
He informed me that he did receive the email, but did not reply as my amount of business was clearly too small for them.
He went on to say they do not like guests going in and out of the lodge (I guess that means that my guests would not be able to do a game drive even though you are in a Game Reseve) and they did not like photographers being at their venue (which is weird for a place that just mentioned on their social media that they do weddings). He then proceeded to say and blah blah blah to me on the phone and disregard anything I said.
When ending the call, I thanked him for his time and while i was still talking he hung up on me.
It is shocking to see that people in the hospitality industry treat their potential clients with such disrespect.
One would think that lockdown and a loss of income would make establishments more humble and grateful for any business.
Rather support small businesses who are thankful for business and avoid this establishment.

Response from GerdG180, Owner at iKhaya LamaDube Game Lodge
Responded 25 Jun 2020
Dear Mr. Michael Keyter, we are sad to learn that iKhaya LamaDube failed to live up to your expectations. First and foremost, please accept our apologies for not responding to your email enquiry timeously. In our years of experience, it’s our understanding that an events company like MK Event Management will usually send a request as unique as yours to multiple establishments in the area and await a response from one that can accommodate it - the initial email we received also asked for meals to be supplied. Based on this, it was also assumed that this was sent to multiple establishments as we are very clear about our position as a self-catering lodge and therefore had no reason to believe this email was only sent to iKhaya LamaDube. While under lockdown, we at iKhaya LamaDube are still not 100% operational - relying on skeleton staff only while making upgrades to the lodge and conducting maintenance in anticipation of reopening again soon while servicing the few guests who are permitted to stay here. Our response time to our emails at the moment is currently delayed and we have a backlog - thank you for persisting with a phone call. Kindly note that iKhaya LamaDube has a strict minimum two-night stay policy. We could not accommodate your request for a discounted one-night stay over the weekend in one of our Luxury Villas - especially in this case where it was requested that we also accommodate an early arrival and later-than-usual departure which prevents us from placing any guest in the unit the night before or the day after as we would need time for the unit to be thoroughly and meticulously cleaned - especially now under strict COVID-19 regulations. We would, therefore, have had to charge for a three-night stay as the unit would have had to be blocked out for the previous night due to the inability to place any guest in the unit and the next day would be spent cleaning up after the late departure. As you can imagine, during this time, the overhead and running cost of a one-night stay (with a discount as requested) with early arrival and late departure would outweigh the turnover on the unit and is a daunting request for any tourism establishment - especially a small establishment such as iKhaya who has already experienced losses due to the sector being closed. While we are flattered you had chosen iKhaya LamaDube for the venue that MK Event Management wished to conduct an engagement shoot, the operational costs of the villa would also be extraordinary for this particular request and would not justify the fee we charge for one night. It was also requested that we, as the hosts, work with the coordinator throughout the day to help facilitate the event which would take us away from the day-to-day running of the lodge and tending to the maintenance and upgrades which we are trying to conduct. The unit would have been used by multiple persons throughout the day including a makeup artist, a photographer, a hairdresser, an event coordinator and the couple for whom the effort was for. The abnormal costs incurred of the unit would not be made up in any other sort of way as none of the personnel planned to stay over at the lodge and book their own units. The units are designed to accommodate a maximum of 2 people and we factor this into our cleaning costs as well. To ensure the unit was meticulously cleaned after such an event with a large crew would incur further costs for us at iKhaya LamaDube. As you can see, while we greatly appreciate the sentiment to support us as a lodge who has incurred losses over lockdown, the gesture would be lost in the high operational and running costs of the request and further losses would be made. We pride ourselves on providing a peaceful environment which offers guests full privacy and tranquillity - this is one of our unique selling points. At iKhaya LamaDube we cannot risk disturbing the peace and quiet of other guests - with a crew this large we did explain that we cannot afford to have them travelling in and out the lodge throughout the day until after sunset where other guests are looking forward to some tranquil downtown and an escape from the city hustle and bustle. As with weddings - like you mentioned, and other events similar to this, we recommend that our guests book the lodge in its entirety to justify our operational costs while allowing us to maintain a reputation for privacy, tranquillity and a luxury bush escape. To clarify, we would not allow a wedding party to book a portion of the lodge for the same reason - this would be a disturbance for any other guests who are staying at our lodge during that time. Operating within the beautiful Dinokeng Nature Reserve, we encourage all our visitors to embark on a self-drive or guided game drive. As stated on our website, however, we do not conduct game drives and therefore could not fulfil this request. A romantic spot for the proposal at sunset would have had to be facilitated by one of the independent guided game drive providers within the reserve - while iKhaya LamaDube walks the extra mile for couples to have a romantic getaway (for example romantic settings in their own private bomas at no additional cost etc.) a guided game drive for a couple, photographer, events coordinator and makeup artist to a romantic sunset spot is not something we are in the position to offer. While we understand that events companies also suffered losses during this time, an establishment such as iKhaya LamaDube still had expenses and overheads which needed to be covered during the lockdown period. For us to conduct any non-financially viable business during/after a total closure since lockdown and still having running costs of conducting such business would be at a greater cost to us and cause our staff to suffer as well - a further risk we cannot take. The request simply did not provide a win-win situation. Thank you for reaching out and for your review. We hope this provides some comfort about the situation.

Hello Cindy, we are sorry, but we are an adult-only lodge and don't allow children on the lodge. There are many lodges in the area, that cater to families with children, We want to offer parents (and other people) a quiet getaway without children's noise.
Hi. We were only visitors to the lodge. I can give you the tel no of the lodge and I am sure Tienie or Gerd, the owners, will help you out.
