Detailed Reviews
My wife and I decided to come to Thorn Tree for a quick and early wedding anniversary.
We were not disappointed and wish we could have stayed longer. From when we made the booking, till we checked out, Elzabé went out of her way to make the stay as enjoyable as possible.
We received messages from her with all the information we could possible need, and more to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. Even a list of what to pack in a first aid kit and predicted weather. And having marshmellow braai sticks available at reception is the little touches that took it from great to excellent.
The tent we stayed in was extremely comfortable and had all the amenities we needed.
Breakfast in the morning was more of a traditional Afrikaans style food and was so tasty that you would consider licking the plates clean.
Using a “donkie” heater for the shower is something I have not done in a while, but it adds to the rustic charm charm of the camp. Camp staff does fire it up twice a day and they will show you how to do it if you want hot water at other times.
We will definitely be back again.

The location is impressive, an oasis of calm, peace and quiet located at the heart of Dinokeng Game Reserve. The several cottages and glamping tents are arranged in such a manner that allows for privacy. The common amenities such as the swimming pool and braai area are the areas to meet with other guests and enjoy shared moments.
The Umbrella Thorn Tent was extremely spacious and was lovely supplied with everything one might need to feel comfortable. The highlight was the full bathroom attached with hot water shower (in case you don’t prefer to go all naturally and enjoy a refreshing cold splash after a bush walk 😊).
The kitchen tent was the dream every camping enthusiast, fully stacked with cooking utensils, a full gas stove, large refrigerator and a large kitchen table to enjoy the meals during rainy days.
Rodney and his staff went above and beyond to ensure we have a pleasant stay. He organised for us to join bush walks and game drives, he always had a nice recommendation for any of our questions (where to eat, where to shop, where to go next) and he always took care that everything was perfectly organised and working smoothly.
Thank you for everything, I am already looking forward to our next stay at the Thorn Three Bush Camp!

Me and my boyfriend went away for a long weekend (had to take leave). We booked the monkey Thron house and that is perfect for 2 people. Young and old. Inside is the bedroom (queen size bed) and bathroom. The kitchen is outside. They have your necessary cooking and braai equipment. A shower and bath, big bathroom. Enough space to move around. Also have an oven and stove. The door is facing the fence so you can have visitors in the early morning. Great service, all and all we had a wonderful time there. Will recommend the Thorn tree bush camp.

I always go to places and write reviews with an open mind. On this occasion i can say that this place is not worth the money you spend. Paying R2k for two nights and not having warm water to shower and no water pressure on both days is no fun. The area around the pool looks nothing like on the photos, not inviting at all. I can go on and on but feel free to go and judge for yourself.

5 out of 5 for this stay.
Our host was super helpful and would check up on us on a daily basis.
We experienced some very rainy weather and one of our tents was completely flooded, leaving one of our family members without a dry roof over their heads. Our host was very accommodating and offered us a tent and a stretcher. He was a life saver.
All in all we had a fantastic stay, I can definitely recommend this

It was an awesome stay. The tent was clean and lovely. The hosts were great and super friendly. Any time we needed anything, they came through. The only thing I would suggest is keeping the boma by the pool clean all year round. I think that it may not be cleaned in winter because there are not as many guests, but we would have liked to have spent time in it and did not because it was dusty and needed a clean.

Thorn Tree Bush Camp, Dinokeng.. Unfenced, camping..
What a momentous experience!
Open bush area, no power, need to bring your own water, no ablutions, so you need to book a portapotty!
So close to nature, nothing can beat this!!
Not sure what animals lurk in the bush..All your senses needs to be awake!
We found the Cheethas not even 20m from our camp site!
Night sounds, fire crackling, what more can you ask for...
We can highly recommend Thorn Tree Bush Camp for your next Momentous Experience!!

+1
A nice little campsite with well thought out amenities. The camp sites aren't very shady so definitely worth taking extra shade. Campsites are well run and maintained. Staff are exceptionally friendly. We could hear the lion right next to put camp on both nights, the self drive in the park is quite fruitful with sittings. A worthwhile visit.

Our tent was spacious and very comfortable. The staff were attentive and friendly. Not sure about the hot water review, but we did not experience any issue with having enough hot water. The food was excellent and they even made us Ugali one day as a special request. We loved sitting out in the morning and afternoon to watch the parade of Zebra, Elephants, Giraffe, and other wildlife. We even had a Hyena wander through the camp one morning and a Serval Cat one evening. Beautiful sunsets!

Hi Jean, thank you for contacting us, we are situated with a big five game reserve, for safety reasons motorcycles are not permitted on the Self drive routes.
You are however welcome to bring them for use on the district roads , leading to Cullinan, Pienaar's river and surroundings.
The road leading to us also comprises of about 5 km gravel roads.
Kind Regards
Rodney
