Travellers' Choice
Celebrating 40 years of welcoming guests as friends, the Ardagh is now in the third generation of the Bauvet/Berings family. Old fashioned rest, relaxation & the best food Connemara has to offer. One of the last small, family run hotels in Ireland. What was originally a quaint fishing lodge is now the 20 bedrooms of a four star establishment. The Ardagh has been lovingly restored into an unfussy, intimate hotel with individually styled guest rooms. Set on 6 acres of food and wild floral gardens offering both views of Connemara’s land and seascapes.

Small family-run boutique hotel with exceptional restaurant. Typical Irish hospitality -- warm, friendly, inviting. Beautiful location; slightly outside of Clifton but only a few minute drive to town. Would definitely stay there again.

Everything was superb, the room, the grounds and the food was top notch!! Highly recommend. As farmers, the food to table ingredients from their own garden was appreciated. Sustainable and locally sourced food is something we strive to support. Well done all the way around! Cheers from Wisconsin!

The Ardagh Hotel is one of our favourite places to stay in Ireland. This is our 5th visit there and it just gets better every time. The food and service is amazing and the view of the Ardagh Bay, especially with an evening sunset, is spectacular! Stephane, Monique and everyone who works there make you feel so welcome, especially Bruce the dog 🐾

We spent a weekend here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This family run hotel is a very warm and welcoming one, beautifully decorated, all the amenities you would need but with the added (and rare touch) of feeling relaxed and personal. The hotel is dog friendly, we had our dog with us and it all went brilliantly. Their fish restaurant is sublime, we had a fabulous meal, and great breakfasts too. And that bay view from the hotel...wow. incredible sunsets over a cocktail on the terrace. While I can't recommend this place enough, I'm also somewhat hesitant to do so as it's the kind of place you want to keep to yourself, a little secret gem. Can't wait to get back. Thanks Stéphane and family, we took home some wonderful memories.

Lovely hotel in a great spot overlooking the sea. Friendly owners and dog. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and great breakfast next day. Home grown fruit and veg. Our room which overlooked the sea was very comfortable. The bathroom looked freshly renovated and it was very tastefully done. We enjoyed our one night stay and came back for lunch the next day.

Absolutely superb from the moment we arrived until we left. This was our second stay, having had a wonderful time previously, it is a place that we were very excited to return to. The hotel is beautifully located with very comfortable rooms overlooking Clifden Bay and its magnificent sunsets. Every member of the team are so welcoming and friendly but very professional. The service was fantastic. Dining in the Ardagh is an absolute treat. There is an extensive menu of wonderful local seafood, meats and homegrown vegetables. This is high end dining at its best. Perfectly cooked and presented. The only difference between Ardagh and other fine dining establishments is that the portions are huge! We ate there for 4 nights and our only regret was not tasting everything on the menu. A well chosen and reasonably priced wine list accompanies the amazing food. Cannot wait to return next year. A true treat worth waiting for. Thank you all in the Ardagh

Don’t be put off by the exterior or website photos, especially the bar area which has had a makeover and is now beautiful and cosy. We booked a suite overlooking the water, it was lovely, the views stunning and the bed so comfortable. A few minor problems which were sorted out promptly. We had a meal in the restaurant on our first night which was excellent. Breakfast was ok but a little dry, I missed my baked beans! The lovely waitress did find me some brown sauce though which made me happy. The hotel is ideally situated for the sky road and exploring beautiful Connemara. It isn’t walkable into Clifden, not because of the distance but because of safety walking on the roads. All in all a lovely stay, thank you.

Perfect weekend away, on arrival was treated to freshly baked cake and coffee with fresh milk, not the UHT stuff most hotels provide. Very friendly staff. Dinner was exceptional with a beautiful view of the sea. Loads of cozy corners in this hotel to hide away with a book or enjoy a glass of wine. Could not fault our stay and will definitely return for a longer stay.

We loved the Ardagh and hope to return. The rooms were lovely and the restaurant and bar were exceptional. It was a great location and the staff were wonderful. I loved that the hotel is pet friendly as we missed our pet at home. It was such a nice warm and friendly experience with really good food and the bar area was so nice. We will definitely be back.
