Loved the area. Loved the cows (although they bring flies). Loved the dogs that came to join our walks. Beds comfortable. Indoor fireplace did not draw well, so very smokey. Kitchen not too clean and too many flies. Kayaking was hard - no jetty and the river was very deep so not easy to get onto the kayak. Nothing to hold onto at all. We're not that agile any longer 😏 We were disappointed as we expected more.

We were 2 couples [pensioners] and stayed in Cottage 1, the closest to the river. Our criteria for camping, or in this case, self catering cottages, are simple, near river where we can relax, swim, kayak, fish and braai, and where we can walk and MTB [still Blessed to be to do this things] and private as possible. Obviously Safety is number one. Well, Asher Riverside Cottages exceeded all our requirements and provided the additional pleasure of having the owners 2 dogs visit us. They are absolutely fantastic pair, totally different, but can guarantee that all dog lovers will fall in love with them as well, they provided much laughter and joy with their antics [go visit and see for yourself] The Owners, Ada and Dikter are lovely people, one will be very hard pressed too find a 'nicer' couple, they can tell great stories. If you enjoy the same kind of things as we do, just go!

We stayed here for 4 nights and wished we could stay forever. It is just so peaceful, quiet and right on the river so that you have the beautiful view the whole day. Cottages are basic, but has everything you need. The ceiling fans in the rooms and on the stoep were great at keeping flies, mosquitoes and the heat at bay. Thanks Ada for your hospitality. We will definitely be back!

Our goal: kuier-kuier relaxation in a safe, close-to-nature, uncomplicated setting •Hosts Ada & Dickter are a generous best-ever pair, willingly assisting with our out-of-norm requests •We rented cottages 1, 2, 3 for most of 2 weeks, making #2 the meeting-eating place for all 3 generations - everything works so well for such a setting •Full range of crockery & kitchen/braai utensils •Brilliant on-stoep braai-and-fireplace ideal for early-May weather, but colder evenings a bit uncomfortable on the semi-open stoep...but stoep ideal for long lazy hours together in a small crowd - toddlers are safely visible, lots of space to play and run •We created an ad hoc sandpit for the youngest grandchild with some buckets of sand to the off-side driveway at #2 (watch out for plenty "dubbeltjies" though!) •Cottage design/layout spot-on to accommodate up to 8; 2 bathrooms; very easy to keep clean (on a longer stay you get a weekly room service and fresh linen!!); lots of living space inside too (we did not try the TV or the indoor fireplace); kitchen cooking & micro is basic but functional •A very adequate supply of firewood makes braaing and heating the sit-in pool a sinch •Out-of-season rates were very well matched by what is on offer

Four cottages on a farm. All are situated on the river bank but are far enough apart to ensure privacy. Fully equipped with undercover braai areas and wood heated splash pools. Two bedrooms, a loft for the kids and a large living area. Great fishing on the river. Reasonably priced with friendly and attentive owners. Have stayed on numerous occasions and never been disappointed.

We stayed here over Christmas and hired out two of the cottages. The biggest selling point of these cottages is that they are less than 50m from the Breede River, and have an amazing array of birds in the trees in front of the houses, including a number of less common but beautiful birds. Each house also has a canoe, and I spent most days canoeing up and down the river (noting that the Breede is a bit weed infested at the moment). The cottages are well built, with a large shaded stoep, large lofts that can sleep about 4 people (single beds), and two bedrooms, both with a double bed. The kitchen is well equipped, bar the fact that there are only a two-plate stove and small oven, so if you are doing larger catering, you will probably need to braai, which most people won't complain about. The one issue to note is that not all the cottages have an easy access to the river, with very steep slopes leading to the river. This made getting the canoe out of the river quite difficult, and will probably deter any fragile swimmers.

We stayed in Cottage #3. Our aim was to swim, braai and relax. -We drove a Golf 7 which at times seemed too low for the rocky and grassy access road. -Access to the river -which was important to us- was by climbing through a (barbed) wire fence -there was no gate. The climb is steep and thorny, it is advisable to wear sandals not flip-flops. It would be tricky for younger kids and the elderly/injured. -The owners warned us of grass in the river due to the slow/low flow of the river but we could swim and paddle without problem (see photos). It was GREAT!!!!!! -The owners answered my pre-booking questions promptly via sms and even sent photos of the river upon my request. Our reception was warm and the cottage itself looks like a little house. -We would have appreciated mosquito/fly screens in front of the windows/doors to allow for some fresh air. There were two small fans provided which were very welcome! -The beds, bedding and bathrooms were pristine!!!!!!! -The climb to the loft bedroom is STEEP and it gets hot up there but otherwise lovely. -For longer stays there are very limited hanging/packing space. For us that wasn't an issue. -We also carried extra chairs from inside out onto the lovely big stoep, the (4) metal chairs were without cushions. Take comfy camping chairs for longer/larger stays. Glass and paper gets recycled, which is great. We fished a few bottles from the river which most probably drifted from and up-stream location; otherwise the river was super clean with abundant bird life. -I can HIGHLY recommend this venue. We loved it!!

We just spent a great weekend at Asher Riverside Cottages. The cottage can easily sleep 8 people. We were 3 kids and two adults. The loft room was a great hit with the kids. The kayaks and the river were easy to access and great fun.
