Weltevrede is a Family owned and managed wine estate in the Robertson Wine Valley, close to the town of Bonnievale. It began when Klaas Jonker purchased the farm in 1912 and planted the first vineyards in the area. He was followed by Japie Jonker, who in 1933 began wine farming on Weltevrede. Today, the tradition is carried on by current owner Philip Jonker.Philip joined his father, Lourens Jonker, in 1997 as winemaker after qualifying at the University of Stellenbosch. He also gained valuable practical experience working at Clos du Val winery in the Napa Valley, California, as well as Chateau La Dominique in Saint Emilion, France.Weltevrede has got a lot to offer our visitors. A tractor ride, wine tasting and accommodation is available as well as the restaurant and function venue. One of the recent ventures is the launch of the Weltevrede Writers Studio on the Estate. This is for writers to come and be inspired with the beautiful surroundings and get insights from the 3000 + books available in the studio. We invite you to join us on a journey through the WELTEVREDE EXPERIENCE

I came to visit the celler and do wine pairing and lunch, but unfortunetly, they were revemping the whole place. The tasting was available, but I wanted to have the whole experience, which will only happen from October 2021. The chocolate pairing looks promissing, and the cellar, a must do... The lady at the farm was very helpfull and I'll definitly come back again to experience fully everything on offer...

Don't get fooled by the romantic pictures. There is an extremely noisy main road just behind the cottages an fast driving cars were keeping us awake all night. If not cars, then old noisy fridge in the kitchen. Place is far away from the wineyards and restaurants, so we had to drive in the night to get something to eat. Place has got the kitchen, so one can cook for himself, but we did not feel like and also did not bring any food. There is no AC, so place can get quite hot. There is no wifi, but also very week signal even for someone’s own device. We stayed at Bidsprinkaan cottage which is the biggest one.

We heard about Jonker family hospitality and this experience was above all expectations. Phillip is a great man with a lot of dreams and many became true. This is a place to be either you on vacation or day off.

This is one of those must visit places and stay overs. We try to visit once a year and stay in Bidsprinkaan. Awesome to sit on the stoep and looking over the valley, so peaceful and quite. A must do is the underground cellar wine tour, what a experience!! To sit and enjoy a wine tasting in that old cellars and to think of all the history is just such an experience that you just must do and the wine is excellent!

Arrived late due to road works outside Montagu but were warmly welcomed by Elzette who kindly waited for us at the main reception at the wine estate. The cottages are about 300 m further down the road. Ons Huisie is at the end of the farm road and is surrounded on two sides by vineyards. The road to Bonnievale is directly above and behind the cottage, but privacy and road noise really weren't a problem while we were there. There is a water canal and rose beds about 3 m in front of the cottage, which has stunning views of the Breede River valley. A little bridge over the canal allows access to a short walk around a small dam. The cottage is small but perfect for a couple - lounge, bedroom, small, well equipped kitchen and a little bathroom with a shower that is more spacious than you would think! Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. A complimentary bottle of wine and grape juice await you, as well as rusks, filter coffee and a coffee plunger. As a suggestion, the lighting could be improved by one or two more lamps. We would definitely stay again!
