Enormous rooms, everything is of very good material, pool is nice, just perfect. Compared to other guesthouses in the same price range, Lucky Bean is on a different level. Absolute must for when you're in Johannesburg.
Great way to start our trip to Southern Africa. We arranged to be picked up at the airport on arriving. The location is in a quiet neighborhood in a suburb of the city. Conway and Natasha, the proprietors, were very helpful easing us into the workings of the city. They also helped us in setting up personal tours to the particular sights in which we were interested. The guesthouse served a wonderful full breakfast, with eggs prepared to order. The Shower in the room was excellent, and restaurants were within walking distance from the guesthouse. We also found that ride services, Uber and Bolt, were very useful in getting around when not on a tour.
Due to school holidays we only had one night to stay at the beautiful Lucky Bean Guesthouse in Melville. Melville is probably one of the most European-like areas in South Africa with streets that you can wander and plenty of restaurants closeby to choose from. After 2 weeks in the bush we arrived in a big Toyota Fortuner which just fitted through the entrance gate so we had safe and free parking on the premises. We stayed in 2 spacious rooms looking out into the lovely garden and pool and the room that our 3 teenagers stayed in had an added third bed put in. Conway and Natasha are genuinely friendly hosts with great suggestions on restaurants, things to do or organizational stuff. Staff were equally friendly and breakfast was great. Upon our request prior to our stay Conway had organized a Soweto Tour for us with Cecilia, a great guide who took us on an incredibly insightful tour around her township - highly recommended. What else to say? Next time in Jo'burg we will definitely stay here again.…
Our stay at lucky bean guesthouse has been great. The owners and their staff are very friendly and make you feel home immediately. The rooms and garden are beautiful for relaxing and you can feel like in your own private summer house. We felt very save and got good recommendations for tours and restaurants at Johannesburg. The media in Germany is not always positive about South Africa and Johannesburg, therefore we came with reservations. However it was completely the opposite and our expectations were well exceeded. We can only highly recommend to come to South Africa, especially now, since there are not so many tourists yet.
Once again, blown away by level of service at this hidden gem. Conway and Natasha always bend over backwards to make sure that your experience is memorable. Old Melville just around the corner, with its vibrant, bohemian atmosphere, is also something that makes this place such a pleasure. Outstanding, guys
