On our way back from Oudtshoorn to Wellington, we decided to stay in Ladismith. Good choice. Our Travel guide mentioned the Albert Manor House to be a good treat, and boy was it right. We absolutely enjoyed staying with Elizabeth & Bennie. The Former Manor House, turned National Monument, is a real Guesthouse treat. Wooden floors, white awesome linen, even our bed was from 1820-something. Almost 200 Years of sleeping experience help us to recover from our exhausting road trip. The outdoor breakfast was a real treat as well. Bennie's hobby, the garden is really nice. I also enjoyed that they decided NOT to go for the 4-Star rating (TV in each room!) as it would have destroyed the special vintage flair.
We can higly recommend staying at the Albert Manor house an hope everyone is enjoying this "time machine" as well, as we did.
Keep up the good work, Elizabeth & Bennie!

We weren't planning on stopping off in Ladismith but were very glad we did as we got the chance to stay in this wonderful Victorian guest house which has been declared a National Monument. We stayed in the Coach House which was enormous with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and living room but the thing that makes this place so special is the lady that runs it, she couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome she is retiring this year which is a real shame for the owners. We would love to stay again at this beautiful guest house if we return to Ladismith.

A great welcome from Benny and Elizabeth to this national monument in the Little Karoo. We stayed in the coach house which is very comfortable with its own kitchen. Breakfast is served on the veranda looking out at the Swartberg Mountains and is a sumptuous affair. Elizabeth is a wonderful host and goes out of her way to ensure you are comfortable and have everything you need. The area warrants more than a one night stay and for any golfers try the Ladismith Golf Course with its black greens and 20 rand green fee!

Elizabeth is an excellent host. We stayed in the self catering unit, which is basic but impeccably clean and well equipped. Heated blankets for those frosty Klein Karroo winters. We had the breakfast one morning - superb. Highly recommended accommodation.

The Albert Manor in Ladismith is a great Old Victorian Manor House - if you ever want to feel how the riche Ostrich Barons have lived 100years ago - here you can get the feeling. The Albert Manor is listed as National Monument - at it is worth!
Even if it is old, it's so charming! The interior, even the old wallpapers, and last but not least the more than 100 year old Kitchen Oven - wonderful :-)
But you need to cook on it - your Breakfast is served by Elizabeth and Benni on the Veranda with the magnificent view to the Swartberg Mountains - and Ladismith's always shining Stanley's Light.
Elizabeth and Benni are great host - not even just a warm welcome - but much more! You can really recognize, that both are so passionate to run their B&B and the Albert Manor - with fun & enthusiasm.

We arrived late in Ladismith and had to look for accommodation as we hadn't booked. After looking at 3 of the 4 B&Bs in Ladismith, we found Albert Manor. What a find. It is a beautifully restored Victorian House set in a quiet street in this small country town. Benny and Elizabeth Stroebel went out of their way to make our one night stay memorable. Comfortable bedrooms ensured a good nights sleep. A great breakfast was had on the verandha looking out on the mountains. This guest house is highly recommended.

First off, it is probably fair to say that there is not a lot in Ladismith, more of a handy place to stop-over en route along R62. However, we stopped here for one night on our way between Robertson and Oudtshoorn so that we could have longer around the Robertson wineries earlier in the day.
We could not have received a warmer welcome from Elizabeth. As we were the only guests staying that night she offered us the use of the Coach House, a self-contained two bedroom/two bathroom apartment set away from the Main House, which was fabulous. Sitting outside offered some beautiful views too.
On arrival we were shown around the Main House briefly, which was a little like going back in time. The property is a registered national monument as we understand it so very quaint and charming. The only point we might make, and hope it is constructive, is that some of the rooms we did see looked a little well-worn in places, although the age of the building should be taken into account. That is not to say that everything was not spotlessly clean, bedding etc. was great. Unusually for guest houses in our experience, the TVs in the lounge of the apartment and in our bedroom had the sports channels.
Breakfast was probably the best we encountered on our travels and, whether it was because we were the only guests or not I don't know, the only one where the various components were offered when WE were ready for them, rather than on many occasions being halfway through something only to find the next part of your breakfast being delivered to the table. It was beautifully presented in a wonderfully old-fashioned style and in a lovely setting.
Elizabeth is a charming host, and her husband Bennie was also extremely welcoming in his own quiet way. He clearly loves his garden! For what we got this was amazing value. If a stay is required in Ladismith look no further.
Our location rating is geared to Ladismith itself rather than Albert Manor's position within the town, as there is not really much else around.
There are not a lot of eating out options in Ladismith. Elizabeth directed us to the Olive Garden about 1km back along the R62 in the Barrydale direction. It is basic and pretty rustic, but extremely friendly, and if you fancy a pizza as we did that evening you won't get better.

We only stayed one night on our trip along route 62 but we both wish we could have stayed longer. The decor perfectly matched the character of the 1892 built property. We stayed in the apartment which was spacious and very comfortable. Elizabeth and Bernie are fantastic hosts and went out of their way to ensure we had a fantastic stay. Breakfast is served outside on the veranda looking out to the mountains .... stunning views. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
