I have been a frequent visitor of Mymering over the last few years and to say that these visit have left memories that are amazing are an understatement.

Whenever I travel to Mymering my heart skips a beat everything I see the Towerkop knowing that within a few minutes I'll be lounging around on the beautiful "stoep". Having a glass of Hillock in hand enjoying the gracious and welcoming company of Andy and Penny Hilliock. The view onto the mountains is spectacular and breathtaking both at the same time.

The rooms are meticulously appointed with a very special attention to detail and there is no need to ask for any amenities. Each unit has its own little splash pool and during summer this is a treat that one seldom finds even in overpriced and very upmarket hotels.

The food is scrumptious and comparable to the best of the best out there. From breakfast to dinner and even the lovely complimentary snack platters that one gets with "bubbles" in the afternoon.

It is all these memories that make me return whenever I can as it is a hidden gem tucked away in the Kannaland which is a MUST to visit for all when travelling in or around this area.

I am counting the days to my next visit.....

Returned to Mymmering after 4 year gap due to health problems. It was just as we remembered it - absolutely idyllic. You get a warm welcome from Andy and Penny, the rooms with plunge pools are scattered around the property and are comfortable with good facilities and fabulous views and you get to meet the dogs including Big Harry and poodles Moet and Chandon plus 3 Yorkies.
You dine in the main building with the other guests, our meal was absolutely delicious, prawns in garlic butter followed by perfectly cooked salmon. The occasion did not feel like a restaurant meal more like being at a lovely dinner party. There is no choice on the food so if you have any allergies or dislikes let Penny know beforehand - I am sure she would do something delicious for you.
On our visit it rained heavily during the night ( much needed in these parts ) which unfortunately meant that I had to miss the early morning walk with Andy and the dogs as it was slippery underfoot and I had not got appropriate footwear but I had done it on our previous visit and certainly hope to do it on our next. Breakfast on the terrace watching the weaver birds feed is yet another joy. We cannot recommend Mymmering highly enough and just wish we had discovered it on our earlier visits to SA.

The guest house is set amongst lovely vineyards just out side Ladismith. Bedroom accommodation is located in lodges set within the vineyard a short walk away from the main areas. Our one had gorgeous views across the vines to the rolling hills beyond. Excellent Breakfast and Dinner was provided on an open terrace dining area at the main buildings again with lovely views across the countryside. they also offer wine tasting of their various white and red wines they produce and Mike in charge of the wine production took us on a guide walk of the vineyard before breakfast.

We were greeted by Charlene who took us to our lovely rooms, perched on a slight incline, overlooking the vines. Very spacious, enormous showers and a plunge pool, which our little one enjoyed ! We sat on the stoop and picked out a book from the many available. Dinner was a very enjoyable affair - beautiful home cooked food, vegetarians catered for no problem and some nice Hilton MCC and Merlot to accompany. In the morning, we took a walk with Andrew and his 6 dogs (!) around the vines. A perfect place to relax for a couple of days.

Clean, and comfortable bed. Friendly owner and staff. The view from the restaurant made us feel we could sit there every day for weeks, reading or doing something creative, sipping the delightful wines and occasionally going for a walk into the mountains. For exercise…. However as we stayed only one night en route to elsewhere, the only walking we did was joining Andy (the owner) giving us a guided tour of the vineyard in the morning. We thoroughly enjoyed that, as he picked grapes for us to taste, telling us the differences between them, and telling us about the vineyard and its history. The rooms are separate from the reception/restaurant, but only a minute or two’s gentle walk, which was pleasant in the weather whilst we were there.

The only downside and reason for just 3 stars (we would give 3.5 but can’t) was that the rooms, or at least the one we stayed in (Lavender) was very tired looking, and felt rather dingy - but given the apparently recent and very well done expansion of the restaurant I guess they will be looking to refresh the rooms - and maybe some have been done as clearly not all reviewers have reported the same.

What a delight to arrive at our pool patio room in Ladismith. It came highly recommended by S.A.Venues and we were not disappointed. It was a delight to meet Charlene who showed us around. Andrew and Penny Hillock were gracious hosts and our evening meal a delight. We enjoyed Hillock Merlot which I highly recommend. The room was most comfortable with a beautiful view overlooking the valley and vineyards and facing towards Towerkop. In the morning we took a walk around the Vineyards and farm with Andrew and six dogs, after which we had a wonderful scrumptious breakfast. A definite recommend when you stay in Ladismith.

A wonderful stay yet again in this marvellous place. We love The Mae West suite with its privacy, elegance and wonderful views of the mountains and vines.
Andy and Penny are perfect hosts…we had some great conversations and lots of fun during our evenings with food cooked to perfection and beautifully served.
We enjoy our early morning walk with Andy, the dogs and other guests tasting all the different grapes they grow and learning about the countryside.
It will be always on our list to stay every year on our touring holiday of SA.

Having stayed here 4 years ago and loved it, we were eager to return. It was however not the same as we remembered it. Our room was clean but the sliding door latches were mostly broken or not functional, the bedside light had no plug adapter so not usable, the brown water dribbled from the bath tap (this was rectified once I brought the issue to management’s attention), there was clearly a water leak in the corner of the ceiling and the room just looked like it needed a bit of maintenance. We could overlook all of it but the way the owners wife treated our waitress over dinner, in front of us, was totally unacceptable. The poor sweet girl was almost in tears. She has opened the door next to us, at our request as there was a large party going on in the small dining area, nobody wearing masks and no fresh air. Without asking or calling the waitress aside she harshly reprimanded her in front of us. When I intervened and said that I had requested the open door, I was ignored as she continued to lambaste the poor girl. It left a very bad taste and we will not be inclined to return.

The accommodation is very well thought out, with very good fittings. The views were spectacular. Total privacy. The breakfast was standard - the dinner was excellent, however a cup of coffee costs one more money and not included in the set menu. The quality of coffee needs to be revised. The coffee pods in the rooms was of very poor quality.

We booked and paid for the Luxury King Suites (2 units) but upon checkin we were given totally different INFERIOR units. When I raised this with their Manager she pointed blank refused to move us claiming that the Luxury King Suites had been booked since before we booked. When we raised this with Booking.com the Manager then claimed that we had booked the inferior 2 units and despite us proving that this was in fact incorrect - they still refused to move us to the one we booked. To make matters worse we discovered that it was the owners FAMILY who had been given the Luxury King Suites. This goes to show how little they value paying guests. The units we had were very tired and worn, the BBQ grid was unusable due to a massive hole in it, the temporary cover over it had not been cleaned and was filthy. The deck was all warped and there were messy paint spills. The fibreglass pool has been patched numerous times and many items were missing from the inventory. Not even BBQ rake or blade in either unit or firelighters. Only one pair of tongs and no tea or coffee making machines as claimed.

Dear Mr Neil Ferguson On checking in we explained to you that the suites that you had booked were our luxury King at a cost of R1000 per room at date of booking being 29 May 2023. The Delux King suites were booked for my family to visit us on 14 March 2023 price of the suites at the time of booking R1100 per room. As this was an on-line booking we had no direct discussions with you as to the pictures of the suites you were expecting. If this was the case my family would have moved to Lavender and Rosemary but they arrived 2 days before your booking. I wonder if the booking was for guests other than my family if you would have been more reasonable? On Checking in we gave you brand new grids and you said ' it does not matter really as you have a fully kitted out rig for everything you need' so I am not sure how we were suposed to help you with what you may have needed if you wanted to use your kit. Firelighters are not supplied but if requested we would could have helped you. As for all the filth etc etc if you made the time in the 4 days that you were here, other than the spent to enjoy a fabulous Christmas lunch, and discuss all your greviances with us personally is a mystery It seems that because of the room issue everything about Mymering was not up to standard and a rating of 1 star is just rediculous! Andy and I however are well aware that Mymering is not for everyone and hope that your 2024 year is filled with family, friends and lots of new adventures. Penny Hillock
