#3 of 3 in Meloneras
Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa is located in the south of Gran Canaria, right on the seafront in the exclusive Meloneras area. This spectacular resort is nestled within the Maspalomas Sand Dunes Special Nature Reserve, a spectacular setting that represents Gran Canaria as a tourist destination on an international level. The unmistakable beauty of the natural environment surrounding the hotel is combined with the proximity of El Faro Boulevard, an avant-garde shopping and dining district that offers everything our guests need to enjoy an unforgettable vacation filled with relaxation, recreation and fun. The iconic architecture of Lopesan Costa Meloneras is inspired by the aesthetics of two emblematic colonial-style buildings: the Santa Catalina Hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Hotel Nacional in Havana, Cuba. When guests arrive, they are met by an awe-inspiring building that pierces the sky with the iconic profile of this colonial palace that spans more than 105,000 m2. The hotel opened in 2000 and after almost two decades as a leader in the archipelago’s tourism industry, it was forced to close its doors on 24 March 2020 because of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Since then, it has focused efforts on revamping its image, modernising its infrastructure and adding new services to its already diverse offer. All the design elements of this magnificent resort are centred around outdoor activities and enjoying the amazing weather. Guests can get away and let their imagination run wild in a lush, 76,000 m² tropical garden, home to over 800 palm trees representing 100 different species and subspecies. The vegetation flows at the pace set by the water and the harmony provided by its 4 freshwater pools (2 of which are heated in winter), 2 whirlpools, 1 children's pool, heated in winter, and its artificial beach. In total, the hotel offers 12,000 cubic meters of pools equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas that blend in with the surroundings. If there is one thing that sets Lopesan Costa Meloneras apart from the rest, it is its infinity pool: 102 meters long and 5,500 m³, it seems to merge with the sea, creating an optical illusion that becomes part of the photos and unforgettable memories of guests who have stayed at the hotel since it first opened. The structure and finishes of the infinity pool have been completely renovated, keeping the essence of this iconic Gran Canaria landmark intact. The Río Pool (2,170 m3) has also been given a makeover, adding new shades of green and brown to create a special symbiosis with the surrounding nature. The course of this unique river has created a peaceful, island-shaped area which will delight our most exclusive guests. Like its aquatic sisters, the Unique Pool (650 m3) and the 'Árbol de la vida' Pool (348 m3) have been transformed, offering a new and updated image, adapting to the aesthetics of the rest of the pools in the complex. The renovations have also involved the expansion and creation of new areas, such as the back terrace of the Solarium Bar, now with more space for enhanced comfort and convenience. Our guests can enjoy the best sunset in Meloneras from this magnificent location. The areas with the highest guest traffic have been modernised, upgrading the pavement and adding new decorations in the lobby, the Tertulia terrace and the Dragones Fountain. La Plaza is another of the hotel's iconic areas that has undergone significant changes, adapting to the demands of our guests and enhancing accessibility. All of the paving has been updated, the irrigation networks have been upgraded and new attractions have been added to all of the resort's gardens, ensuring that repeat guests feel that they are visiting a new, modern and comfortable space that preserves the same essence of the original Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay. The resort is maintained superbly and offers a luxurious experience at a reasonable price. The main restaurant has been completely revamped and is fantastic. You certainly don’t feel like you’re in a buffet restaurant and the selection of food is great! We were kindly upgraded to a suite, which was absolutely lovely. High quality finishings and so clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We barely left the resort, as there is no reason to you!

We have visited this hotel many times over the past 15 years. Recently the hotel has undergone some major alterations, the rooms have been updated and improved as has the main infinity pool. There used to be 2 dining rooms which have combined into one huge one with 2 outside dinning areas. The decor inside whilst dark is nice and works. However the food stations for the buffets for breakfast and dinner were poorly organised, the food was lukewarm and it didn’t appear if this aspect had been thought through properly. There are too many people in a small area all walking round with plates of food. We also felt that the quality of the food had gone down. We love the hotel and will be back but on a bed and breakfast basis only.

We have just visited for 7 nights. The hotel was gorgeous! We had the best time it was wonderful. Definitely worthy of a 5 star. We arrived and check in was simple & quick. Arrival drinks offered which was a great touch. Room big enough, spacious for 2 adults & two children one in a cot. Wooden cot was in room for baby, I expected a pop up travel cot! So this was a great surprise. Room was immaculate when arrived & continued to be throughout our stay, the cleaners every day did a great job, even taking the time to place my childrens comforters in a welcoming way for them. The HOTEL was immaculate also, constant cleaning in ALL areas. The food was tasty, well served & gorgeously presented. Every single day. Piri piri for lunch was a hit, the food was AMAZING! Every single staff member we came across/ spoke to were great! Excellent with our girls too, took the time to speak to them. Evelyn my 3 year old LOVED Aaron in the buffet. He was amazing with her. She was always on the look out for him. What a lovely man! Excellent at his job all were but he definitely stood out. The pools were beautiful! Lazy river was great! Kids pool was a hit with our girls. Within is the kids club. We never left ours but you can if you sign a waiver form. Evelyn loved all the activities. Big shout out to Alexandra in kids club. She was so so lovely, included all children and amazing at at her job. Spoke sooo many languages! Myself and my husband couldn’t believe it, and how quickly she changed when talking to the children. Look out for the turtles! They are level 0 between the rooms where the bamboo walkway is. They are in the middle in the water. This was another highlight and became a tradition to see them before dinner every night! The town outside of hotel is lovely, close to the beach! Plenty of restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Parents with babies/ children. Nappies and wipes in supermarkets along with HIPP baby food. Baby milk they had a brand but not cow and gate or apitmal so I was pleased to pack in suitcase prior! Plenty of taxis - we took a trip to paradiso park. €17 one way. Worth it. Lovely morning out. Water park close but didn’t go as found the kids pool was great for our age children! Evening entertainment was good but repetitive, more for the husband haha, Little ones loved it!!! Kids disco 8-845 every night but was the same, same songs same music or pretty near! This definitely wouldn’t put us off coming again. Thank you for a wonderful first family holiday!!! Room 2131 level 2 Vicky & family x

We spent our 10 day holiday in Costa Meloneras. This is our sixt time in the hotel but the first time after the renovations. And everything that has been done really makes the hotel better than it was before. Even the tiles in swimmingpools where completely renewed. The hotel looks as good as new again. Also the level of cleaning is so high. Every day everything looks good as new. From the lobby to the swimmingpools. The level of service and kindness of all the people that work in the hotel is amazing. Especially I want to thank Miriam from the reception how was always so nice and helped us with everything we needed. This is a amazing hotel for people of all ages. And we look forward to coming back again.

Everything was just as great as I'd remembered. Choice of beautiful pools, all the palm trees and immaculate walkways in the gardens, everywhere super clean and even the amazing smell in the grand reception area!! The dining room has changed and is rather dark now, but lots of outdoor seating. I preferred the layout 10 years ago when there was a 2nd smaller buffet restaurant, but thought the food was much improved. Breakfast and dinner were the only times I was aware of how big the hotel is; it is surprisingly quiet and secluded round the pools. Well done Lopesan for removing towels and stopping the sunbed reservation issue, another good improvement! We enjoyed a few of the activities during the day (shuffleboard is addictive!) Jose deserves a mention and the staff on Reception were so helpful in providing a room to change and shower before the late flight home. We'll be back!

We booked a last minute trip and wanted something luxurious as we were only going away for 5 days so this hotel seemed to meet the mark. Staff were very helpful, the rooms were modern, clean and plenty of room. The location was perfect! Just off the beach front with all the upper class restaurant and bars leas than 100m outside the back entrance of the hotel. The resort is a much more chilled vibe compared to playa de ingles however, this was only about a 30/40min walk up the coastline if you wanted to spend a day/ night there (nudist beaches on the way though!). The sand dunes were on the way just off the seafront which made a good place to have a few pics. Weather ended up being around 25/27 most days so a good temperature but not too hot that you can’t enjoy yourself. I would recommend taking a tour around the island as there were some lovely picturesque villages and great mountain views through the central of the island. We went on a panoramic tour with Jet2 holidays (the stop off café didn’t serve the best food). The only negatives was that the spa was closed in the hotel as it was undergoing refurbishment, you do need to get up fairly early if you want the best sun-beds at the pool and that the singers for the entertainment weren’t the best (would have like to have seen more performances) but for a 5 day break, it was perfect get away. I would definitely recommend staying here at this resort ☺️

the hotel/spa was brilliant, perfect, clean, friendly, we could not fault it. They were even cleaning the overhead woodwork! we had a swim up room which was even better than expected, you didn't have to pack up your gear and go to the pool - it was just there. Brilliant. Breakfast was spectacular - the best scrambled eggs ever, evening entertainment was generally fun if you didnt take it too seriously. there was a wonderful restaurant opposite the complex, tucked away in a corner that did pear wrapped in pasta - amazing.

I visited in the last week of May with my adult daughter and had booked a Unique delux double room. On arrival our cases were taken to our room whilst we booked in at reception. Check-in was straightforward and we were given a map of the hotel as it’s vast and asked what time we intended to take breakfast and dinner, presumably so they could manage busy times. These times were approximate and not an issue if we turned up early or late. Next we were given our orange wristbands which has a chip in it to open your room so no looking for the key in your bag. I also left a holding deposit on credit card as the wristband can be used to pay for food and drink round the pool or during the evening if it’s not included in your stay or you can pay as you go along if you wish. Our room was spotless, spacious and very comfortable with Unique toiletries if you need them, complimentary wine and chocolates and we overlooked the tennis courts. Maid service was exceptional and towels changed every day if you needed them. We were provided with orange unique towels to use round the unique pool and a unique pool bag to use. This pool area is for unique guests only, no problem with sun beds and has its own bar. Plenty of parasols with shade and quieter than the larger infinity pool with a couple of water trolleys where you can get fruit or lemon flavoured water. You can’t reserve sun beds and there was no issues with this as there were plenty available. A special mention should go to Bar man on the Unique pool who I think was called Zoilo but I might have got that slightly wrong. He seemed to be the only person manning the bar and was literally run off his feet but never stopped smiling and was very polite and friendly. There should have been another person on this bar to help out but it didn’t detract from our stay. We used the separate breakfast room for unique guests where you can sit inside or out. Plenty of choice from fresh fruit to hot choices, croissants and cake to cava…you could not go wrong with the amount of availability and the staff were very attentive. We didn’t order any of the hot breakfast options so can’t comment on this. Breakfast was the best part of the dining experience as the buffet in the evening was a bit hit and miss. The evening buffet…..Lots of space to sit for your evening meal, inside or outside and for a meat eater, lots of variation. However, I don’t eat any red meat but will eat some white fish and I found the choice limited. Plenty of salads and other types of seafood etc but I didn’t want to eat that every evening. I also found the labelling of food confusing. The chef stations are not very well lit and I had to keep picking up the information notice to work out what was in the food and some were not labelled at all. I found out the second day that reception can provide you with an allergy or dietary card to show to the chefs when queueing for food but this wasn’t always helpful. The buffet stations were quite busy at the usual times, 7.30 onwards etc My daughter had a field day with the choice of deserts and was happy with her food. We didn’t get offered a drinks menu for our evening meal so not sure if there was something we should have downloaded. All in all the food was ok for a non meat eater but I have had better choices. I might be an idea to have one separate vegetarian station. The hotel staff were all very professional and polite, always with a greeting and they work extremely hard to keep this hotel clean. We visited the other pools and made use of the jacuzzi on the unique terrace near the unique pool. Towels can be changed every day at the hut by one of the pools which we weren’t told at checkin but we found out anyway. As part of the Unique club, you have free use of the spa rooms which you need to book in advance when you get there. This was a bonus as it was fantastic, great spa and service and the staff again were knowledgeable and professional. All in all, this hotel is exceptional, beautiful location, great spa, great service and I would definitely recommend and would I go back….yes in a heartbeat

We have just come back from 9 nights at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras, overall we had a really lovely and relaxing stay. The hotel is really nicely finished, and has just been refurbished (a few little bits of minor work going on still but we barely noticed this). There are a few things I think could be tweaked which could make it a real 5 star experience, so will outline the plus and minus points below! The Plus Points: - the staff: they are all fantastic, nothing ever seemed too much trouble. They were polite, professional and always willing to help. I speak Spanish, however all of the staff we encountered spoke multiple languages and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. - the room: we had a supreme pool view room, and I would recommend this as it he’d better views than some which overlooked the back of the hotel over the car park. The room itself was very spacious with a huge comfortable bed, plenty of wardrobe space, large balcony and great bathroom with a really good shower. The amenities were all fantastic as well. We had requested a quiet room when we booked, and we had a great room on the 5th floor overlooking the spa pool which was super quiet and peaceful - (room 5192 if you want to request something similar - see pic for view) the entertainment finishes at 11/12 each night, so if you had a room overlooking this part of the hotel it maybe would be a little noisy. - the location: the location of this hotel is perfect, there is so much at the hotel that you don’t need to leave the resort if you don’t want to, however within 5 mins walk there are plenty of good bars, restaurants, shops and beaches. Fairly short distance from the airport and well located on the island for other day trips! - the grounds & pools: I think this is the most well kept hotel we have ever stayed in! An absolute army of staff keep everything absolutely spotless. The grounds are extensive as the hotel is so large, so you can always find a sun lounger and it never felt overcrowded. The pools are also great, again they are really big so they don’t feel overcrowded and a lovely temperature to swim and cool off in. - food and drink: breakfast was great, HUGE selection of food and again staff were really helpful. We had some drinks in some of the bars in the hotel, as well as lunch one day and all was really nice. Fantastic idea by the hotel that your wristband is your room key and you can link your credit card to this so that you never need to carry cash/purse with you! Downside of food was half board evening meal, more details below. The Minus Points: - half board/evening meal: we chose half board as it wasn’t much extra cost, however we would not do half board again if we returned to the hotel. We ate in the hotel 3 nights out of 9, but preferred to eat out because there were so many better restaurants nearby. It felt overcrowded and busy in a way that breakfast didn’t, and the food (although not bad) we didn’t feel as though met up to the standards of breakfast. I know that half board doesn’t usually include drinks, but a bottle of water perhaps on the table could be a nice touch by the hotel - after all there are drinks and even cava available at breakfast. The other thing that was frustrating about the evening meal was the dress code for men - they insist on long trousers. I think this is a little outdated - seems strange that someone can walk in in tracksuit bottoms and trainers which would be fine, yet smart chino shorts and a shirt would not be. And women can wear whatever they want - perhaps a dress code of ‘smart casual’ would be better? - the other slight annoyance was the lack of coffee in the room - I have never stayed in a hotel that offered a kettle and tea making facilities, but no sachets of coffee? (I believe Unique rooms have a coffee machine however). When I asked one of the hotel staff about this, they explained that Spanish people do not drink instant coffee (?! I’ve lived in Spain, and they do) and that we could buy a jar of coffee in the supermarket hotel. Not really a huge issue as we bought a jar of coffee in the shop, but I also think it wouldn’t be a huge issue for the hotel to put some coffee sachets in with the tea sachets.
