Once again, we decided to visit Blue Ocean Dive Resort, this time for myself and “future son-in-law” to complete our PADI Rescue course to qualify as Master Scuba Divers, and for my daughter to complete her Advanced PADI course. With the accommodation, restaurant, bar, and dive centre all on the same premises, the eat, sleep, dive, repeat, daily routine is extremely convenient, including the on-site training, as well as the private pool training. Once again, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel a part of the Blue Ocean family, and the hospitality and friendship that was extended to us by the whole Blue Ocean team was exceptional and greatly appreciated. Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms and showers. The aircons in the rooms added to the comfort, and the electric kettles were very convenient. We ate most our meals at the restaurant which has a good varied menu, and the food was superb, particularly the all-day breakfasts, the pizzas, and the milkshakes. The evening entertainment, including live music and karaoke was great fun. With regards to the training and diving, everything was handled extremely well by the professional, competent, and friendly staff, including organizing rental equipment, the dive planning, the “shuttle” rides to the beach, and getting to the dive sites by rubber inflatable boats, which for each trip was an exhilarating experience, handled exceptionally well by the skilled and experienced skippers. After qualifying, we were fortunate to also fit in a few great dives at numerous sites, including North Sands, Raggies Cave, Inside Edge, and Cathedral. We also went on a baited shark dive, which once again, was brilliant and definitely worth it. Overall, we had another fantastic stay at Blue Ocean with great diving, and once again, cannot wait to return.

Property's Favourite Review
My “future son-in-law” and I once again decided to visit Blue Ocean Dive Resort, this time to complete our PADI Deep and Wreck speciality courses. My wife and daughter, who were unable to join us on our previous visit, joined us for the last two nights and had a great time. As the accommodation, restaurant, bar, and dive centre are all on the same premises, the eat, sleep, dive, repeat, daily routine is extremely convenient, and even though my wife does not dive, she enjoyed just chilling and relaxing at the lodge. Once again from the moment we arrived we were made to feel a part of the Blue Ocean family, and the hospitality and friendship that was extended to us by Gary, Nicki and the rest of the Blue Ocean team was exceptional and greatly appreciated. Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms and showers. The aircons in the rooms added to the comfort, and the electric kettles were very convenient. We ate most our meals at the restaurant which has a good varied menu, and the food was superb, particularly the all-day breakfasts, the pizzas and the milkshakes. The evening entertainment, including live music and karaoke was great fun. With regards to diving, everything was handled extremely well by the experienced, competent, and friendly staff, including organizing rental equipment, the dive planning, the “shuttle” ride to the beach, and getting to the dive sites by rubber inflatable boats, which for each trip was an exhilarating experience, handled exceptionally well by skilled and experienced skippers. Our dives at numerous sites were incredible, including the Produce Wreck, the Nebo Wreck, Bay of Caves, Cathedral, Baff Cave, South Sands, Eelskins, Raggies Cave, Shark Alley, and Garden of Eden. A special word of thanks to Julia who is extremely pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable, who went out of her way to ensure that we were safe and well looked after at all times, and that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Whilst diving we saw lots of amazing marine life, including ragged tooth sharks, bull sharks, white tip sharks, devil ray, round ribbon tail ray, blue spotted stingray, marbled electric ray, grey spotted guitar fish, honeycomb moray eel, yellow mouth moray, potato bass, tomato rock cod, lionfish, scorpion fish, stonefish, trigger fish, parrot fish, pipefish, and many other fascinating marine fish. We also went on a baited shark dive which once again was brilliant and definitely worth it, being surrounded by oceanic blacktip sharks swimming all around us, enabling us to appreciate and observe these impressive sharks up really close in their own environment. Overall, we had an awesome stay at Blue Ocean with plenty incredible diving and cannot wait to return once again.

The stay with the guys at Blue Ocean was so much more than I could have hoped for. I stayed with my wife who is a non-diver and whilst we were there we celebrated my wife’s 50th birthday. We stayed for the full 9 day unlimited diving package which incudes accommodation and breakfast. So first the stay and food. We stayed in room 16 in the resort which was huge! Great sized comfortable bed, fabulous balcony where we able to hang out with the local bird life as well as the local vervet monkeys who you need to keep an eye on! The room and bathroom have all been recently renovated, it comes with a double walk in shower which is super romantic. The room has A/C which we didn’t use, but it’s there if you’re there in summer. Food is all served in the bar / restaurant downstairs which is called “The Deck”. There is a good selection of food available for all meals including lighter snacks. They have a full on wood fired pizza oven and the pizzas are amazing. You can make them as you wish by ordering a base, then simply ticking off the topping you want on so it’s 100% bespoke for you! The menu is a little heavy on “chips” and later in the stay it was getting a little much. However walking past the kitchen one day prepping for a dive we smelled the most amazing curry that was being prepped for the staff for dinner. They were more than happy to sort us some for our dinner as well and it was amazing and made a fab change. So if you’re fancying something not on the menu, then don’t be afraid to ask as they will sort something for you. The staff were attentive and efficient and the atmosphere is welcoming and affable. Wednesday quiz night is not to be missed!! Note that the restaurant and bar is open to the public. Everyone was lovely and chatty but just something to note. On my wife’s 50th, they even through a surprise cake for her with all the staff joining in singing her happy birthday! Now to the diving. The dive centre is well set up and caters for divers of all levels. I brought over my SCR to dive with and they are fully tec capable; able to supply sofnolime (at really good price too) O2 with a booster as well as the usual Nitrox mixes. There range of rental kit looked extensive and in good condition but I didn’t use any so can’t comment further. There is a very useful bench section with charging points for cameras, units and anything else that needs a charge. You are allocated your own spot on the benches in the centres with the usual plastic crate to keep everything in. Everything is transferred to the boats for you in the morning for your dive, so no need to be killing yourself. The diving is from RHIBs which are expertly piloted by the centres skippers. Getting through the surf from the beach is a constant challenge and certainly adds to the adrenaline when heading out! I’ve never been able to get myself back into a RHIB and was worried about upsetting the skippers but there is no need to worry, they’ll always help you in and even helped with some advice on how to do it and although I still can’t fully, I’m getting there now! The guides in the centre are excellent and special thanks has to go to the lead guide Rae who is brilliant. Super clear dive briefs, knowledges and experienced with the species you’ll be interacting with so keeps you totally safe, but also super patient and keen to help you nail that perfect shot! An accomplished underwater photographer herself, the centre and hotel are adorned with her work which is awesome and really shows the wildlife she has captured “in the moment”. That’s not taking anything away from the other guides who were all generous with their time, advice, help and support. On a couple of the days I was diving, the team organised my own boat with a couple of their own CCR divers to allow me to really get some good dives in with my own unit and to go find the elusive Brindle Bass which was super appreciated. Here it’s worth noting that at BODR they won’t have students on the boat with you. That was really important for me when booking. It’s too much money and too far to be coming to be diving with newbies who are though their gas in 20 minutes! If there are less experienced divers, they are either on their own boat, or allocated their own guide so when they’re done, it doesn’t affect your diving if your more experienced. The diving itself is mind blowing. There is no other word for it. The baited shark dives are something else. Being surrounded by 20+ oceanic black tips sharks is something you simply will never forget. I know baited dives cause some controversy, but for me, it was a chance to meet these animals in a way I simply couldn’t otherwise and it’s an experience that has touch my soul. Before I “cared” for sharks, but diving with them, being with them, watching below they swim, their confidence and their presences, I am inspired to do so much more to make sure these magnificent and essential ocean predators are protected and respected. I defy you to do this and have it not change you on some level. It’s simply unrivalled. With the ever present and ever curious Potato Bass escorting your dive, the Raggie sharks gliding silently around Aliwal Shoal and the shy (3 tonne!!) Brindle Bass lurking around The Produce wreck there is LOADS of big stuff to see that I’ve experienced nowhere else! But don’t forget to look small too. Loads of Nudis of every colour even I managed to find, as well as a host of spectacular tropical fish I’ve only ever seen elsewhere in the Red Sea. It’s a unique place to dive and one you need on your bucket list no question. So all in all, it has lived up totally to its trip of a lifetime label. Except I just can’t see me not coming back. It’s just too good. The people just too nice and it’s just an amazing place to be and to dive!

I would like to register my indignation with Captain Malcon from Blue Ocean! on July 10th he put 8 divers at risk of life! he constantly accelerated towards the waves and on purpose! because he didn't want to go to work, even when the diver monica got hurt he started screaming: i told you!! and said that day would be the worst of our lives! and it was one of the scariest! the whole team at blue ocean is incredible but if malcon capital is working with them i recommend looking for another place to dive because your life will be in serious risk!

Truly world-class dive centre. Friendly and helpful crew - they made us feel relaxed and welcome. Thanks Ash for helping with gear. Tea, coffee and toast is available upon arrival. Fun boat ride out, felt safe and secure even in big swell - thanks Malcolm. Saw many raggies and Kyle was a great DM, even found some raggies teeth for us. Hot chocolate and fruit on the boat after the dive, and we were offered jackets to keep us warm. Hot showers afterwards and the crew took care of washing the gear, which was a blessing. I would recommend Blue Ocean to everyone I know.

Fantastic! The team at Blue Ocean is simply awesome. Super organised and friendly, they made my visit there a great experience. They are professional but know how to have fun. The dives were really good and nothing was an effort for them. Conveniently located in Umkomaas they made the departure and travel to the Aliwal Shoal effortless. The very experienced skipper and helpful dive guide could not do enough to ensure I had a good time. Plus the amenities are super! Hot showers with towels and extras provided after the dive, good quality gear and safe parking. Plus they have great accomodation and a restaurant and bar right there. Everything a diver or someone that wants to start diving needs. Well done! I hope to be back soon.
