First time visiting this park and we were very impressed. Although it doesn't have all of the "Big Five" there is still plenty to see. While an ordinary hatchback could cope with some roads, a high-clearance vehicle is required to travel all the roads.

Umthombe picnic site is lovely and shaded with concrete tables and benches and braais. The ablutions were clean and tidy.
Umthunzini was also clean and tidy, with a flushing compared to a composting toilet. However it's not as shady so I would not recommend it in summer.

In summer the vegetation is fairly overgrown and you will have to work quite hard to see game in the denser areas. However, in the more open grasslands, there is lots to see. I look forward to returning in winter.

The rates are very reasonable, and entry is free to RhinoCard holders.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, the hides were not open.

Definitely KZN Wildlife’s best kept reserve this place is always clean and neat .Staff very friendly and clearly the person in charge here takes pride in his work and reserve. The picnic / braai spot is always clean. Facility’s are basic just the way I like it no big shop just the very basics at reception so bring what you need. All roads are gravel but in fair condition , will not recommend coming here with you small hatchback but you will probably manage. There is only one Cottage -book in advance - with a dam 50m away all to yourself when you stay in the cottage. Nice campsite at reception with ablutions that is always clean. Would recommend this reserve for bird lovers.
You will have to go a long way to find something wrong here and if you do ........ No big 5.

We sited a number of animals. The entrance fee is R50.00 per person, for what you gets its well worth it. The picnic and camping areas are clean. A 4X4 is preferable for driving through the park. There is one chalet on the property which can be booked out.

The staff here have gone beyond the call of duty. Bathrooms, campsites, picnic spots and park as a whole are spotless, well maintained and looked after.
Great weekend for family and friends.
Well done weenen staff.

I hadn't visited Weenen Game Reserve in 15 years and was expecting to be slightly disappointed, anticipating a decline in the reserve. I was wrong.

The staff are friendly and welcoming, the facilities spotless and the roads and campsites well-maintained. We saw very little game, but the beautiful scenery and fantastic bird life offset this. It was sad to see so few visitors, this reserve really deserves to be appreciated. Well worth the visit! Just make sure to take cash if you don't have a Rhino card to pay the entrance fee (which is VERY reasonable)

Wow! First visit here Feb 2022, and was so impressed. Stayed at the only 4-bed cottage on the reserve, great value. Simply stunning to stay in the bush and know that you are the only one`s for miles around. Would recommend a high-clearance car (4x4) as some of the roads are not passable in a small vehicle. Animal sightings good and the bird hides are amazing. This is no 5-star private reserve, but still we had an amazing experience, especially when staying at the cottage, with its own private watering hole. Highly recommended.

Our first time visit to the Reserve. Very impressive with a variety of Game - picnic facilities are well kept, clean and tidy. Flush toilet at the hide with soap and toilet paper provided. Definitely a must-do when in the area.

Took the kids for a day out. Ablution and picnic sites are clean and in excellent condition. Roads are a bit bad, so don't go in a tiny low car. Unfortunately due to lockdown no hides were open.
Kids enjoyed the day. Saw lots of animals.

We stayed at Weenen for 2 nights in January with our 18 month. The reserve itself is small, but great for short drives with a little one, we saw stacks of rhino, 9 jackal and everything else the reserve has to offer. It also offer some very spectacular views ands is very well kept. The accommodation was great. Yes it is basic parks accommodation but more than adequate and a lovely area and a great braai site a short walk to the waterhole (dry). It was a lovely stay and even better being the only people there. It was great and fantastic value for money.

It is no often in life where you decide to take an impulsive decision, go off the beat and track and then find an absolute gem of a place. On our way to camp in the Drakensberg this weekend, we decided not to go hiking in the Berg, but be bold and go camping at Weenen Game Reserve. Not having been there before, we arrived. The Game Reserve is about 7km away from Weenen and 23 km away from Escort.

There are 12 electrified campsite
Very spacious. Very clean and unfenced. Now that is what you want for a real bush experience. The staff are very very friendly, always willing to assist. The campsites and braai areas are cleaned daily. There is a small tuck shop, but frankly they sell nothing. Our proposal is for you to bring everything you need for a lovely camping experience. Bring your own drinking water and the water on tap is not fit for drinking. During out stay, the staff had technical problems getting water pumped to the ablution facilities and the geysers were thus not able to offer warm water. As we are seasoned campers we always take 50 liters of water and a gas shower with us. So we overcame the problem ourselves which makes camping so much better. What is so lovely about this campsite is that it is quite and that you are constantly surrounded by white rhino, giraffe and other buck species. The bird life is just amazing. I have certainly found my new piece of heaven. Well done to the team at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

This place will certainly see me again.
