Zingela has really put a lot of effort into opening new trails for running, hiking, mountain biking and horse rides. The paths have been made to perfection and they enable you to explore the wild country easily. I saw plenty of game and had the greatest time with Mark and Linda. The food was outstanding and the staff very friendly.
I would strongly recommend Zingela to family groups or couples who just want to get away. Zingela has it all. THANKS SO MUCH x

The welcome received from the people of Zingela creates a feeling of ‘coming home’ , even if you’ve never been before. The setting is superb; tucked into the trees and rocks the rooms are ingeniously set up with rustic simplicity, but provide real comfort and quiet. Food was delicious, no-nonsense, home cooked and plentiful. There is a sense of community and friendliness. I wish I could have stayed longer. My grateful thanks to the Calverley family. Happy New Year

What an extra ordinary experience, with 4x4 adventures, unique rustic accommodation , fantastic friendly service and amazing food.
A big thank you to Mark, Linda and Peter for making our stay so memorable. I asked if they could please cater for my wife who is not a big meat eater but prefers her veggies and they went out of their way to ensure she was spoilt with choices.
Sanela, the barman was always available to help us with anything and everything we needed.
We did not opt for all the adventures that were on offer like white water rafting and abseiling but preferred to go on the very scenic walks and relaxing on the banks of the Tugela.
We will definitely be back
Thanks again.

Sadly our stay was not a great one.
Positive was that the venue is fantastic and the views and staff were tremendous.

But our room was infested with rats and mice and they ate through all our toilet bags, pills, toothpaste, soap, coffee. They destroyed my rubber coffee mug and urinated and dedicated in our belongings. When we did speak to the office they said that they are aware of a rat issue. Our geyser didn’t work and had to be repaired and we had booked our own bathrooms. This camp facility is not for the faint hearted.

We are aware it was rustic and we accept that but not broken and infested. The rooms were very grubby and the towels were old and threadbare. Our kids door opening did not even have a curtain on it so was open to the elements.
Definitely in need of an upgrade in rooms.

I need to reiterate that they staff and managers were amazing people. Angel our lady who assisted us was an angel by name and an angel by nature.

I had the best time at Zingela. The staff were amazing, the food was out of this world, and the accommodation was so romantic. I loved all the activities. I rafted on the Tugela and felt completely safe. I abseiled of high cliffs and got stunning pictures. I went on bush walks and saw giraffe from a few meters away. The camp is right on the river and stretches a fair distance up and down river which gives you privacy away from other guests. The animals I saw while walking were Kudu, Impala, Nyala, Wildebeest, Duiker, Warthog and some African Rock Pythons.
The food was unreal, always plentiful and tasty prepared by extremely well trained local Zulu Ladies under the supervision of Linda Calverley (Owner).
I Loved the campfire stories and the atmosphere around the dinner table. We often ate under the stars in the evening or under a huge tree during the day.
I can recommend Zingela for kids, adults and everyone else.
Ill definitely be back.
Thank you everyone for making my stay so amazing.
Missing you all. ps. Peet, I hope the tlb is working hard.
Devin

Very rustic so be prepared to become one with nature. Road is not made for low cars but you can leave your car halfway down the dirt road and they will collect. Never ever been to any holiday destination were staff, and the owners made us feel so welcome. Everything was clean, loved the animals walking on the river bank. Food were excellent and as i have celiac disease they were extremely accommodating with proving me with meals i could eat based on what was send to them before hand. Loved the stories that were told around the fire at night time. If you want to experience the real Africa and ita people this is a must visit. The giraffes were awesome and overall this would be a place we would visit again and again and again…..

We stayed at Zingela for 5 nights in December 2023. It's absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to de-stress after a long busy year.

We paddled on the river, swam in the river, took a few short walks, went rafting on the river, one of our group fished every day and caught numerous barbel and one yellowfish, another of our group went on a 21km trail run. We also spent a great deal of time just lazing under the trees on the river banks watching the water flow by and reading or bird watching.

The weather was very hot when we were there so we didn't go on as many hikes as we could have, but the area is stunning and on the drive in we saw numerous giraffe and antelope.

We don't have a 4x4 so we left our car at a homestead about 30km from Colenso, and were collected from there by Bibi who was a great game guide on the drive to the camp.

We stayed in the safari tents and opted to self-cater. The kitchen facilities were more than adequate, although we had the whole safari camp to ourselves and would have needed more fridge space if we'd had to share with other guests.

We ate dinner in the restaurant one night and the food was delicious. We found the food and drinks to be very reasonably priced. We ordered freshly baked bread for our lunch every day and that was also delicious.

The ablutions were more rustic than I'd been expecting but everything was very clean and we had no issues. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

We were very sad indeed to leave at the end of our five days.

Highly recommend visiting this destination. After the heavy rains the roads had taken a beating, but negotiating them just added to the whole experience! Good clearance, however, is essential. The staff at James Camp were exceptional. The grandkids had a ball in the stream behind and the laid back vibe was exactly what we all needed. Thank you Linda, Mark, Pete and the rest of you for an extremely memorable time.

I spent a while at the cam and would like to thank everyone for being so amazing. The accommodation was superb and made me feel one with nature, the food was 5 star and delicious, the booking process was seamless and the shop is fantastic to buy a small memory to take home. Lovely sightings of Giraffe and the conservation projects are so interesting. I met so many interesting people there and will be sure to be back next year.

Hi, the price for one night with food for two adults?
Answer from Zingela
Apologies for the delay! For some reason I have only just received this. Fully catered prices range from R750 to R950 depending where you are staying. Self-catered camp R375 pp per night. Access to Zingela is requires a high clearance vehicles but transfers are available for those requiring a lift in from our meeting point in Weenen. Coat R150 pp.return We are definitely not a "pop in" venue as the scenic 26 km trip from the tar road does take an hour! Do let me knowif you require any further info.
