Encounter Mara is the place dreams are made of. The camp is gorgeous, the food is exquisite, the staff is welcoming and kind. Every person went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after and cared for. The guides are knowledgeable and the drives are exhilarating. Encounter Mara, its staff, and the Naboisho Conservancy must be protected at all costs!

Four nights and five days of incredible scenery, animals and first class treatment at Encounter Mara!
Every staff member took the time to remember our names, get to know us and went out of their way to make our stay and safari experience the best it could be. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. (Our guide was Nixon, who made our daily game drives a lot of fun)
.
The camp is camouflaged in a treed area with each of the tents in a private setting, you could even watch animals from the camp!
The accommodations were 5 star glamping, from the decor, bedding, fresh glass bottles of water at the bedside, hot water bottles in our beds at night to the fun and perfect temperature every time buck showers! With only 24 guests, the camp has an intimate feel.
The meals were gourmet, healthy choices, nice variety and accommodating to dietary restrictions...home cooking at its best.

We would highly recommend Encounter Mara and cannot wait to return!

Tent notes: 8 single tents and 2 duplex (bedrooms separated by living area) tents. All tents are well appointed with full size beds, and large en-suites with “bucket showers”.

We visited Encounter Mara in August 2019 for our honeymoon and had the most amazing time. The camp staff, hosts and guides were all fantastic. So helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable yet gave you plenty of space so we could enjoy some 1 on 1 time together. Our guide Winston was perfect, we always felt so safe in his company and he was always happy to plan our days safari around whatever suited us best. We saw everything but Leopard (which are very rare to see) and he managed to get us up close to so many big animals with not another person or jeep in sight which felt so special. The food in the camp was all delicious and we loved the sociable feel of the dining tent and mixing with the hosts and other guests. The tents were immaculate and spacious. We had never experienced a bucket shower before but they worked perfectly and we could always have a shower whenever we wanted to. 100% recommend visiting and we would love to go back one day.

We spent 4 nights at Encounter. Our tents were not like any tent I had stayed in before. It was like a room at a really nice hotel. We had hot showers every day, hot coffee and cookies delivered before our morning safari began. We heard the sounds off in a distance of the safari animals during the night. It was a bit rainy while we were there, but we had no issues with mosquitos. I would not hesitate to return to Encounter Mara in the future. There was a viewing area where we watched the giraffes in the fields. The tents were spread out and you felt like you were the only ones there. The meals there were wonderful. We loved it so much!

Encounter Mara can only be described as an incredible camp with amazing staff, all of whom made us feel instantly welcome. During the 5-night stay it was like being part of one big family.

A special thank you to Antony, Mercy, Julius, David, and Johnson, for amazing service throughout our stay. We were welcomed and cared for from our wakeup coffee and biscuits before the morning game drive to our chat around the camp fire, evening meal and hot water bottle at bedtime. They were always nearby to top up your drink, provide you with information, or help you if you weren't feeling well.

Our experiences with our guide, Jackson, while out on game drives in Naibosho Conservancy were, for us, the icing on the cake. Jackson's guiding, knowledge, experience and above all, humour, made our safari such a brilliant experience. We had so many laughs with him, during breakfast in the bush, sundowners, and generally throughout the game drives, where he often had us in stiches laughing. He knew the Naibosho area so well, and used his vast experience to find some amazing sightings (including hunts, kills and more!), and to tell us everything imaginable about the animals and birds in the process.

The food in Encounter tasted amazing, and we had a great range of different dishes at lunch and dinner. In addition, the pre-prepared bush breakfasts and snacks were really tasty- everything was top quality. A massive thanks to the head chef, Saloniki, and the rest of the kitchen staff too.

In terms of the camp itself, the rooms (tents) were very private and extremely comfortable. Each had an unobstructed view onto the lawn, with a covered outside space with chairs and a day bed. The perfect place to relax between morning and evening game drives.
We would not hesitate to recommend Encounter Camp to anyone wishing to visit the Masai Mara or Naibosho Conservancy specifically.

A well run camp, suitably discreet, set in amongst the bushes. This provides shade and means the camp is not an eyesore on the environment. You don't know its there until you are in it! The staff were excellent being both friendly and professional at the same time. Food was excellent and the game guide and trips were outstanding.

We stayed at Encounter Mara from March 14th through March 17, 2022. We had a great time. The highlight is the location of the camp itself which enables instant and amazing game drives right as you leave the camp. Because it is in the conservancy it is less crowded and guides can go anywhere off road to get the best views of the abundant wildlife. Each game drive was a great experience with no shortage of grazing animals but also lions, elephants, giraffes, baboons, all just doing their thing. Most of the animals were used to the jeeps so they paid us little attention which allowed us to get very close. We were lucky and got to see several lion cubs which were just precious. Nichson was our driver and was a master at spotting the slightest movement getting us the best views. I also recommend an early morning game drive and enjoying the bush breakfast which was a real treat. The landscape is breathtaking with so many views that look so much more amazing than even a picture can capture.
The tent camp itself was good with plenty of connectivity and electricity. The bucket showers took some getting used to. The food and beverage selection was good. We had great service from all especially from Johnathon and Julius who made sure we never wanted for anything. Antony was fantastic at managing the camp and we had many great conversations during our stay. Would recommend Encounter Mara especially for those where getting up close to anything on a game drive is of key importance.

I have been to Encounter Mara more times than I can count, and I cannot say enough good things about the camp. The staff are some of the most hospitable and kind individuals I have met, and the accommodations are like none other - comfortable, classy, and environmental. I've lived in Africa for 18 years of my life, and I can confidently say that Naboisho Conservancy is one of the richest landscapes I have encountered. It's rare for you not to see the big 5 while staying at the camp, and the views are breathtaking. If you have any doubts about booking here, have no fears - I'm confident you'll love it.

Everything about this camp was impeccable. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted by the staff, Shown to our tent, which was one of the most amazing tents we have ever stayed at. Absolutely minimal bugs and the most comfortable stay ever. The food was out of this world! The Chef even gave me the recipe for one of my favourite side dishes! The game drives, and our guide were outstanding. Our guide, James, went out of his way to make sure we saw pretty much all of the big five (except rhino, which does not live here), and provided us with breakfast and snacks that were delicious!! We felt like we were the only ones in this camp, as they treated our family like royalty. Everything about this place is a 10 out of 10.

You can expect intermittent showers in March as well as the occasional heavy storm which can be magnificent for photographs. Visitor numbers tend to be reduced but the game viewing is excellent. We hope to see you in March! Best regards, Asilia Africa

Answer from AsiliaAfrica
Cape Town24 contributions5 helpful votes
Hi aph1985, There are wonderful game sightings during April. Our guests in the last few weeks have been enjoying some incredible experiences. It is important to note, however, that it is the rainy season and this can impact on driving conditions. It is possible there will be times when the vehicles cannot get as close as you would like to the game.

Hi Ruthie, We look forward to meeting you! This time of year should be warm to hot and sunny, and doesn’t fall within the traditional rainfall seasons. There is, however, a chance of late afternoon thundershowers. Days are hot and sunny and evenings can be quite cold as the altitude is around 5700 ft above sea level. Lows can be in the region of 12/15 Celsius and highs in the 30 Celsius. Please do let us know if you have any more questions. Best regards, Britta - Direct Marketing Executive
