Trennerys has a great, isolated location on a gorgeous, quiet stretch of beach. Seagulls hotel is an easy walk to the south, and to the north you need to pass some rocks to really make progress (our flip flops weren’t up to that task), we loved having the beach to ourselves. The tour up the river and to the waterfalls is beautiful and we highly recommend it!

Our accommodation was fairly rustic. Comfortable enough, but not luxurious. The bathroom floor seemed a bit sticky, but otherwise the room was clean. We found it unusual that we were allowed to drive to our room and just park on the grass outside, but it did mean we didn’t have to carry our bags very far! Would be good to update from instant coffee in the rooms.

Trennerys kitchen can do some great food. Our experience was that the lunch was the best meal of the day. Breakfasts were good, although we thought could offer more options, especially better coffee! Whilst filter coffee was available, it wasn’t to my liking. For dinner, there were 3 courses with 2 options each, which although good, I would have preferred to be able to order from the lunch menu (which could perhaps be extended with some evening only options?). Wine list was good (although some out of stock in early December was disappointing) and corkage seemed very reasonable (which if we had known earlier...)

I’d highly recommend Trennerys for a great break. Bring your own coffee (and maybe wine), and some hiking shoes, and you’re set up for a fantastic, relaxing break!

An overall, fabulous experience right from the Pont ride at Kei Mouth to the friendly smiles at reception and continuing right through the entire weekend.

Kids are fully catered for with a mini disco (lights and smoke machine!!) on the Saturday night and loads of activities for the kids during the day! Mom and Dad were really able to RELAX and feel secure in the knowledge that the kiddos were being well looked after/entertained. The fact that the hotel employs local "bead" ladies to teach the kids the skills, is highly impressive too!

The food... Oh gosh, the food! Every ounce of goodness - like little fairies, dancing on your tongue!
Be sure to give Wong a holler at the bar area - no task is too big to ensure you are hydrated ;)

Tick this Transkei beauty spot of your bucket list!! And don't forget to get your memory stick from Richard at the entrance to the beach!

Love x

Excellent service!
Amazing staff!
Top notch management!
and let me not get started on the Food....

We made a day trip to check out some spots for our next holiday.
We announced ourselves as a party of 7 at the gate and they had a big poster up clearly showing up to when day visitors will be accepted. Luckily for us it was still within the dates provided.

From there we went to order our drinks and kids were allowed to use the pool.
After spending about 2 hours there we went for a walk along the beach and up to Seagulls where we were welcome to spill our money to the cash register buying drinks and food but not use any facilities (review for the pathetic experience at Seagulls can be seen by checking my profile)

After our bad experience at Seagulls we returned to Trennerys and whilst checking the menu, realized that the prices are alot lower than Seagulls
We ended up spending the rest of the day at Trennerys and went home utterly exhausted after all the fun we had there.

The meals were absolutely divine.

Their Cajun Chicken Prawn Salad is a definite MUST HAVE and their crumbed mushrooms was sooooo nice.
It took me about 30min to decide what I want to order as everything on their menu looks good.
Each plate looks like attention to detail was very important in making the meal.
Everything looked as good as it tasted.
The kiddies menu pizza was so nice that the adults all promised they are ordering that the next time we go there.

Kids and parents all loved it there.

The staff treated all patrons with the highest respect and friendliness and even some of the noisier patrons were treated politely
They clearly understand that customer service is what keeps your business running smoothly.

I will definitely recommend Trennerys to anyone and everyone, I havent been inside their cottages but what I could see is stunning
They also have campsites available
This place is a true gem and I will be going back here regularly

Keep up the good management and to all the staff that dealt with all of us I give a big thumbs up, you all were truly awesome.
Everyone was smiling and you can see its not fake act smiles, you can see that everyone enjoys what they do.
Even the ladies that cleared the tables from the empty plates and glasses, they greeted you first and asked you "how you are doing" which is alot more than most places.

Hello, the stay at Trennerys was awesome. The food was good, I guess the lockdown regulations bring about many restrictions in terms of variety in the menu.

I would like you to fix your beds. They are comfortable but are making a lot of squeaky noise when sleeping. The DSTV channel issue in the lounges also need your attention. Each lounge needs to have its own independent Dstv so that when people want to change channels in one lounge, it doesn't affect the other TV set. It creates a source of conflict among your guests.

I have read the common response when people have mentioned value for money (which gets the response of, try us again), and when people mention maintenance, it will be looked at.

I have stayed at numerous hotels around the world, and for the price per night, I could stay at fantastic locations for the same or less money. Crawford’s, which is around 50km down the beach is a similar price, but the experience and quality is 10 times better.

The hotel really needs some TLC and upgrades, it is dated and maintenance is a problem (in my view), our window was rotted through. You could not sleep properly as the springs are coming through the mattress, the coffee station could be improved, furniture is old, towels should be replaced, and generally most things need an update.

The food is basic and could also be improved to provide a better experience, selection does not cater for foods you might not eat). To me the best meal was the lunch menu (you could order from the bar), but then I still got a stale bread roll for my prego (sorry, but to me these are the basics and are so easy to deal with in the hospitality industry).

The two positive things where the staff friendliness / attitude and the location.

In closing, the answer to the common “cut and paste response”, that the hotel send out on these reviews, is no I would not be looking at the special prices or giving the place another try (price is excessive for what you get), we would also not be recommending it to other people. I really was expecting much higher from the resort, and felt even more upset to see the lack of value in the offering we received.

The best thing were breakfasts - self service with choices of warm and cold food (= cereal, fruit, jams). And the super coffee machine accessible all the time with a range of hot and tasty coffee like espresso, americano, latte etc.

Then the staff, especially the receptionists Judy and Juanita and our chambermaid Leena

The disappointments were: the distance from the sea!! Having previously been to the Morgan Bay Hotel and Kob Inn where you see and hear the Indian Ocean at close quarters, here you are far away. The beach walks are ok, although not great. Another weak point is the swimming pool! Looks a fair size on photos but in reality is very small and very shallow...

My wife and I spent a night at the hotel with friends. The seafood dinner was simply delectable. A wide range of seafood delights was on offer including fresh oysters which were in abundance. The buffet was well presented, and the food was prepared to perfection. The breakfast buffet with all the usual on offer was also good. We found management and staff very friendly and helpful. On the negative side… We did not particularly enjoy the staff singing around our table while we were still eating and them having placed their tip basket on our dining table was also not appreciated. This, however, did not significantly detract from our experience which was otherwise most enjoyable. Our accommodation was rudimentary but clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

We went on holiday with our 2 year old, and we were disappointed with our overall stay. Food was good & staff were friendly but that's where it ends. PLEASE spend some money and upgrade your children facilities, the jungle gym, the trampoline.. all of it - rusted & old! Not safe for a 2 year old. Kiddies room felt dirty and all the toys were broken. Our room didn't have a small balcony like all of the rest, our toilet was leaking, stunk like urine in our bathroom and we also didn't get a bath - I specifically booked a room WITH a bath. We checked out early and still had to pay the full amount. We dont like to complain, so would rather just say what i have to say in this manner. We just wont return.
