Absolutely beautiful little guest house, only four suites but with the most amazing views and such a tranquil, peaceful setting. You can walk through the gardens right onto the most amazing beach or sit by the pool or in the gazebo’s in the garden ‘whale watching’ with a nice glass of wine. Mandy was an amazing host & nothing was too much trouble, she went out of her way to make us feel at home. Our suite was beautiful and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend , we can’t wait to return.
Our 3 nights at Days at Sea Beach Lodge at Trafalgar KZN was a most amazing experience. It is truly a hidden gem and having just returned from the north coast of Durban with all the high rise buildings and packed beaches, you enter paradise with ultra luxury accommodation, tranquility coupled with superb gastronomy and a friendly and professional staff compliment. From the time you arrive and enjoy your welcome cocktails at Guido’s Bar surrounded by beautiful works of art to the superb view over the Indian Ocean from each floor and every suite. I occupied the Inyoni Suite which was luxuriously appointed with every conceivable amenity and which leads to your private terrace looking down onto the large infinity pool and the lush garden which leads to the pristine beach and ocean. Swimming was a pleasure in the warm Indian ocean as the back and side-wash is minimal and the beach was without the usual accumulated waste at the high water mark. Our accommodation included breakfast and we decided to enjoy our dinner in the Frangipani restaurant at the lodge, superbly prepared by the resident chef and served by the friendly and efficient staff. The dinner menu changes every evening. The owner, Guido and Annette Schoeldgen maintain a very well stocked wine cellar with a large variety of International and South African wines. The days went past too quickly while one relaxes around the pool area or in one of the comfortable gazebo’s built onto the sloping lawns with uninterrupted views of the sea. We decided to indulge in the spa treatment program offered on the property in a beautifully decorated building towards the sea while the professional masseuse will oblige to your every wish. It was one of the most relaxing 3 days I have experienced in a long time in an atmosphere of elegant luxury without being ostentatious, only pure relaxation and tranquility. I can personally recommend “Days at Sea” to any discerning traveler who wants to enjoy the peacefulness and sheer beauty of this estate.…
Dear Guido We have been a little slow in writing this email but things have been a little hectic since we got back. We would just like to say thank you for a really lovely stay at your guesthouse and I have to say it was largely through the great service and care we got from your staff. They were really very accommodating and helpful I think if it were not for them our stay may have been a little lonely with no other guests there, but they all were fantastic in making us feel at home! We must also highly commend Molly for her superb meals that she served us, we had planned to eat out at restaurants but after her first meal she made for us our plans changed when we saw the standard and quality of the dishes she served. Please on our behalf thank Ashton, Molly and Stephen for a lovely stay, and compliments to you and Annette for a lovely getaway! Best Regards Charlotte and Steve…
Lovely place, super staff, very relaxing. Trafalgar is a quiet location but pretty well situated for the golf, diving & relaxing we had planned. Days at Sea is an excellent property, with a very nice pool. Molly is an excellent chef and her beef fillet speciality is quite exceptional. We ate in every night, as we were just chilling, and all meals were very good. Others went out and I understand there are some good restaurants a short drive away. Nathan managed communication with us well beforehand and was very helpful arranging my diving when I had problems and the guys at the bar and serving us were really good too and nice to chat with. We had a really nice stay.
We stayed at Days at Sea for four nights in November and loved it. The hotel itself occupies a beach (with a lovely forest walk) front position and the sound of the waves lend themselves to the hotels name beautifully. Due to our flight into Durban arriving stupidly early we got to the hotel at about 08:00. The idea was to simply drop bags and find something to do until check in at 14:00. Unfortunately I had taken ill the day before and really just wanted to find somewhere to sit quietly. No problem. The team gave us coffee, a bit to eat and then left us to doze in the shade on the outdoor loungers. We were woken at about 12:30ish and shown to our room. On the way, we met Molly, the Chef. Dinner is discussed and decided upon with the guests and despite not feeling great we agreed on Yellow Fun Tuna for the main. We were not able to do it justice but it was wonderful and a great view into Mollys skills in the kitchen. The next day I was still not well and feeling pretty weak and Ashton came to the rescue, finding a Dr. and making an appointment. Anyway to cut a long story short and drip later I was much better. Why mention all this? Well a hotel can be lovely but cold if the staff don’t add to the experience. All of the team at Days at Sea add to the ambience, friendliness and warmth and are a credit to the hotel. We stayed in Suite 1. Lovely, well appointed and clean. It has a small Kitchen area if you want to prepare your own food but.... Despite missing out on the delights of Mollys food for a day and a half, once I was felling better it did not disappoint. The quality was superb and the warmth of her smile and quick humour was terrific. When coupled together with how compact her kitchen is, it really was impressive. We had planned to eat at some of the local restaurants but with Molly why bother. Lunch is also available and prepared fresh too by other members of the well drilled team. The walk to the beach is through the garden and dune ‘forest’ to a beach that on three dats was pretty much deserted for miles. It is a beautiful beach to walk on and if you need a destination then do the two miles to Marina Beach and have a coffee or beer at Mariners. Lounging by the pool (long enough for laps) or any of the other nooks was wonderful and the unhurried service is always there for drinks and snacks. Overall this is one if the best small hotels we have ever stayed in and we would recommend it to anyone that enjoys personal service and a more intimate style. …
