The Schmuckkastchen Hotel is just one block off of the main highway in Miltenberg. There isn't any parking in front of the hotel but there is a parking lot on the river nearby. There are restaurants within walking distance and breakfast is included in the room price.

Unsurpassed location on the central market square in the old town. We stayed in a standard room which was rather small, crowded and worn/tired with a small and rather worn bathroom with decor like in the 1980s. The room and the bathroom did not look like the nice photos on the hotel's website. Our room became rather stuffy at night. There was a cooler in the room which helped a lot, but we found out that the best help against stuffyness was simply to keep the windows open at night. The breakfast was much better than the room. There was a large breakfast menu and it was served right on the table for us. Friendly staff.

Located right in the center of the old town this hotel is very charming and traditional. Beautifully designed interior and staircase really takes you back in time. Our room was small but clean with a great view on the main square (the church bells kept us awake, but I guess that's to expect in any historical center). The breakfast was excellent and in general we enjoyed the night we stayed there.

The hotel is centrally located in the old town of Miltenberg. Our room was very small and in urgent need of renovation. The paint on some furniture is repelled. Some amartures have rust. The room exudes the charm of the 1960s/1970s.
The hotel entrance can only be reached via an incline. Parking is not possible on site. (pedestrian zone). The nearest free parking is about a 10-minute walk away. Night's sleep is disturbed by the bell of a nearby church. The breakfast buffet is neat. The egg dishes are freshly prepared.

The breakfast buffet is neat. Praiseworthy: the egg dishes are freshly prepared.

Very nice location, in good condition and everything from a fridge to a safe in the clean rooms. 15 minutes walk from the train station - good, solid wine bar nearby. Such commitment should be valued and supported. 3 minutes from the Main and located directly on several hiking routes

This hotel is very special. We booked a stay in the suite over Easter and loved every moment from checking in, to the fantastic breakfast in the morning. Our room was spacious and clean and well decorated. The owners spoke little English, but communication was easy enough. We love Miltenberg and we will be back!

Stayed 1 night in early October 2012. This is a beautiful old hotel with small but comfortable rooms. Breakfast was excellent. Getting to the hotel by car is a slight challenge as it is in the middle of a pedestrian zone but once you find it you can drive in to drop your bags. The hotel provides access to a parking lot by the river. The hotel deserves a high rating; lots of charm and good service but unfortunately it is across the square from the noisiest church bells I have encountered in Europe; 24 hours a day every 15 minutes with a special cacophony at 6am. I thought many communities had silenced their bells over night? Anyway, it is a shame, I can’t recommend the hotel as a result.

Miltenberg is a beautiful town, great shops and lots of places to eat. Try the walkway behind this hotel for great views of the town and river.

Very well placed hotel in the centre of Miltenberg.

However if you like to sleep with open windows the bells of the church next door will wake you up every 15 minutes, the whole day and night.

Saaff very friendly and helpfull.

Breakfast buffet superb.

Miltenberg is a truly charming little town with a castle perched over the old town of half-timbered houses nestled right on the banks of the Main River. It is well worth a stop-over. There are great hiking trails, very nice shops on the main street and it is really romantic. And the most romantic place to stay in this delightful town has to be the Schmückkästchen. Absolutely the most beautiful half-timbered house on the square across from the old fountain and town museum, it has been thoroughly renovated inside in keeping with the atmosphere of the building, but with totally modern springbox beds and well-planned bathrooms. The shower was actually quite large, and there was a decent hair dryer and magnifying mirror. We stayed in a room at the side of the house, overlooking the path that goes up to the castle, for €115 per night, which includes a very nice breakfast. The café is only open on weekends, but there are plenty of other cafés and restaurants just a few steps away.
I didn’t hear the church bells other reviewers have complained about, but I was on the opposite side of the house.
Parking is free and very close.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter, but the big rooms in front are lovely and very special.
