Nice rooms, French doors, power shower, good breakfast, and friendly staff. However, be aware there is NO aircon in any rooms and no body lotion or conditioner. Also ask for extra pillows if you need more than a small one.
We are aware that hygiene restrictions make life difficult for hotels and restaurants, but we wanted to support the German tourism industry with a short trip in our country. We had booked with the Welcome Kongress Hotel and were "rebooked" automatically to the Residenzschloss and were told it was an "upgrade from our original room at the Kongress Hotel". We were very disappointed by the Residenzschloss Hotel. Although it is a beautiful historical building, it has aged and the rate asked doesn't match the amenities in the room or the hotel itself. Positive: most of the staff were lovely and very friendly. You can walk along the river to get to the old part of town, it is a very green area. Negative: our room had aged furniture, the carpet was stained, there was no air conditioning, the wifi in the room was not stable, the TV sometimes couldn't connect to the network. The maid just walked in the room to fill the minibar although we said we didn't want to be disturbed. We barely had time to put our pants on. The parking was more expensive than originally stated by the Kongress Hotel Staff (13 instead of 8 EUR). We totally understand that things are different under the hygiene restrictions due to the COVID-19, and we can appreciate the challenges it poses to the staff. The kitchen team certainly worked hard to make the buffet attractive. But all the "extras" you expect from a 4-Star hotel were not provided. The breakfast was bland, coffee was very watery, bread rolls were a bit stale. The bar was closed but you could have a drink on the terrace, although the bar drink menu was very limited. They should have adjusted the price of the rooms to reflect the fact that they are not able to match 4-Stars requirements.…
Our room was excellent and the location was very convenient to Old Town Bamberg. The staff was very helpful. It was great to have such well located and secure parking. Built along the river, the Residenzeschloss has very nice places to have some of Bamberg's famous beer and a couple of dining locations serving delicious Bavarian foods. The breakfast "spread" was fantastic. Easy walk to center of Old Town. Hotel parking saved us a bunch! The grounds were very well groomed.
It's a lovely old building and it's very convenient for exploring the beautiful city of Bamberg. Our room was large and had all the usual amenities. Service in the bar was excellent and in the restaurant friendly, but there was no-one to help with bags and a general lack of attentiveness throughout. As I say ok, but could be so much better
Friendly staff, a comfortable room, nice breakfast, bus stop pretty close to the main entrance, the option to forego room service for a night and get a free drink at the hotel bar in compensation...all good. Really nothing to complain about -- it was a good place to stay for a week while in Bamberg.
