The hotel is beautifully located. It has a fantastic swimming pool and the host and hostess spoiled us with delicious breakfasts (included), lunch and dinners (exclusive but for a reasonable amount). We wanted to hike in the area, but it was too hot for that. For the rest there is not much to do, unless you are willing to drive a long way. We lazed around for two days with a book by the pool. We had a room and the chalet. The room was great, but the sun came into the chalet very early in the morning through the skylights (which could not be darkened). It was also very hot there and the air conditioning had to work hard. Not very eco, we prefer not to use air conditioning.

My review We saw that this place didn't have many reviews online, but also that it seemed to have opened not long before covid19 struck. So once we'd made a few inquiries we decided to give it a try, as it looked so lovely. Our stay was during the week (monday to friday) - we had asked for a dinner b & b package with mostly vegetarian meals and they were happy to oblige. We stayed in the cabin the first night (very well appointed with its own private deck and jacuzzi with resident dassies!) but due to bad backs we both found the bed a little soft. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble when we mentioned this, and we were able to swiftly move to a great room as well (or better) appointed than the cabin. The location is about 30minutes from Piketberg, near Goedverwacht on the most stunning plateau surrounded by mountains that makes you feel you're in the Swiss alps. A 20m long freshwater infinity pool offers the chance of a refreshing but chilly swim. Regular swimmers who exercise will find it great, and sunworshippers will love it on a very hot day! We loved it. The location and rooms cannot be beaten, it was a like a mini paradise in nature with all mod cons. We ate wonderful breakfasts and were treated to very good veggie food, along with a wonderful mussel and snoek braai which the owners enjoyed with us. We were the only people staying over those days - so it was extremely peaceful. We did a mini estate drive and saw the resident eland and springbok, and hiked a 10km trail, which is also being developed as an mtb trail. They seem for now to be busy Fri to Sunday. There are only 6 rooms and they also host weddings and conferences. What a place. We will be back, soon. Expect a relaxed friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome, oh and dogs and cats live there, which made us happy, but may not suit everyone. Verg good Bloemendal wines dominate as the owners run that wine estate.

We was for 2 Nights guests on our roundtrip on the Western Cape. Here you live completly in the nature with great views. The rooms are suites with 50 qm, excellent furnicht and a big kingsized bed. The breakfast is excellent and in the evening the Hosts Niki and Vissie prepare a very good Dinner, because there is no Restaurant nearby. On our second day Vissie invited us to a Trip in the Mountains with his open Landcruiser. We saw Cave paintings from the bushmens and finally we visited a fruitfarm and we saw the whole process from picking and packing the fruits for Export. Thanks Niki and Vissie for hosting us and we learnd a lot of nature and also from SouthAfrica. Peter and Rosemarie

From the moment we arrived we were treated like friends and received the best assistance to any of our needs. A surprise meal fit for a king was served the evening with wine of my choice from a well stocked cellar. We cannot wait to go back. It ticked all the boxes in every aspect and had a fantastic recharge for the soul.

We visited Piketberg during the busy fruit period and we struggled to find accomodation in town as we were working at the municipality. Niki was happy to help us at this late stage . What a surprise the place and hosts were amazing. we had had no expectations and really, its only the best from service to the actual Highlands House and cellar rooms . it is so beautiful on the estate and has every activity one can imagine from Mtb trails , swimming , hikes and birding. After a hard days work the Highlands Estate is heavenly. We will be back with our families.

Outstanding beautiful lodge - one of the best experiences I had in South Africa so far. Beautiful views in all directions. I was staying for two nights in a new built cabin that is in 150 yards distance from the main house. Niki and her husband have been wonderful hosts and Nike loves to cook. Food was 5/5. 100% recommendation - worth every Rand.

Owners made us feel very welcome when we arrived. Our rooms were beautiful and very comfortable. Killer views as the estate is at the top of a mountain. Good food and good company, what more can you ask for. Highly recommendable if you need a breakaway. Peaceful and quiet.

Highlands Eco Estate was all and more what I wanted for a weekend's breakaway with peace and tranquility being top priority for the weekend. This is the most beautiful mountain area I have seen in a very very long time! Hosts, Nicki and Vissie, were awesome. Thank you Highlands Eco Estate
