Detailed Reviews
We arrived early on Saturday for a week's skiing, got a great day's skiing and then heard in the evening that Macron had decided to close France. So our holiday was not quite what we had in mind when we booked it! Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Vanoise. The rooms were larger than many ski hotel rooms that I have stayed in, and they were clean and comfortable. The food was decent. The bar was busy and full of atmosphere, and it had a large terrace - a nice place to be when the weather is good. The staff were as pleasant and helpful as we could have hoped for. Even after they had learnt about the shut-down (which inevitably meant that most of them would very soon be out of work), they did all they could possibly do to make our last day at the hotel enjoyable.
Overall, given that it falls into the budget category, La Vanoise punched well above its weight on almost all measures. My only complaint was that the usual ski & boot room that you would expect to find at a skiers' hotel was not up to scratch. It was a portakabin located 2 - 3 minutes' walk away between the hotel and the Meribel gondola station. It wasn't locked during the day. Skis could be secured using an inconvenient padlock and chain, but there was no way to secure footwear. I believe the room was locked between 20:00 and 08:00.
I would rate La Vanoise 1 out of 5 for ski/boot storage facilities, but 4 out of 5 for everything else. If you are here for skiing and are happy with the 25 minute gondola ride to and from Meribel (and the 5 minute uphill walk to the gondola station), this is a great place to stay.

Stayed here as the Amélie was booked but the two hotels share an excellent restaurant. Our room was very clean and spacious and the bed wax very comfortable. The reception and restaurant staff in the Amelie were very pleasant and cheerful.
We had a set evening meal which was delicious- the choice may be a bit limited for fussy eaters but my fish hating husband was catered for. I particularly loved the pork meals as the meat was cooked to perfection in delicious sauces. The buffet style breakfast had a good choice of food and drinks.
This year we had a car so didn’t use the gondola, car parking wasn’t a problem. Can recommend if you are looking for accommodation in the 3 Valleys

Friendly hotel, large room, bathroom and separate toilet. A good compromise if you want to go to Courchevels without paying the prices. Hearty breakfast but the oranges would benefit from being kept cool to avoid squeezing a rotten orange with all the digestive inconveniences that this entails.

Stayed here for three nights to ski in Meribel. We arrived very late and told the reception and the immediately made arrangements for us to get in and get our room. Nice large room with courtyard, mountain room. Good value breakfast and busy and well run bar. Easy walk to ski lift and convenient parking. Can't fault the place or the staff. Excellent value for money.

This hotel has hit a total low point in service level that I thought would not be possible.
After staying there for 4 nights, the lock actually broke to the point where only 50% of the key would fit into the sylinder.
Even the hotel manager could not open the door.
His solution was to let us stay in another (lower class) room for one night and promise to have the door fixed by 8:30 the next day.
The door was not fixed until 11:30 at the earliest, and at that point the hotel manager claimed that we were responsible for breaking the lock and presented us a bill of 80€ for replacing the lock etc.
This was something we denied instantly and he basically stormed out of the room like a 5 year old kid who did not get what he wanted in a toy store.
I followed him out into the hall to ask him to come back and have a civil conversation but he did not even bother to answer me before he went into the elevator.
As the lock was changed, our old key did not fit - and when we went downstairs into the reception to ask for a new key we were informed by the receptionist that the hotel manager had ordered them to have us leave our credit card before giving out our new key.
We asked why this was necessary, how long they wanted the card and how much, if anything would be charged - but they had no answer.
I specifically asked to speak to the hotel manager again but we were told that he refused to speak to us.
The only solution was to call our credit card company and barr one of the credit cards in order to protect ourselves from a scam and leave it at the front desk so we could get our key back.
Later on the hotel manager would periodically threaten to call the police on us if we did not pay and he also threatened to kick us out of the hotel - these threats only stopped as soon as we called hotels.com (which was where we booked the room) who again called the hotel manager to tell him that such threats were unaxeptable.
I would never ever reccomend staying at this hotel or the Hotel Amelie ever, to anyone just because of the hotel manager who manages both hotels.
To top it all of the WiFi was out of service for 50% of the stay.
Brides-Les-Bains however is a nice and quiet little town and the gondola / ski lift is very conveniently placed near the town center so I could easily reccomend this place to people again, but I think its more suited for families with little children than friends on a trip as most restuarants and bars close between 22 and 24:00.

Thank you for letting us know what you think about our hotel. But i would like to clarify a few things. I did come to your room to try to fix the problem with the door , i noticed that the key was in fact broken and that the other half was still in the lock. We offer you to stay in another room for the night as it was 2 am and the door couldnt be fixed then. It appears that you had a few drinks that night and we did have complaints from the other guests staying in the hotel about noise coming from your room late at night and about the smell of urine coming from the balcony. We thought it was only fair that you would pay for the door as you did break the key inside the lock ( this never happened before) and we had to change the whole lock . the lock was changed before midday and just to mentioned that you didnt pay for the lock as the paiement via you credit card has been rejected.

I've just spent last week skiing in the Three Valleys area of the French Alps. Staying in the Grand Vanoise as part of a Crystal Ski package holiday. The holiday was arranged by a friend. To say I was initially concerned would be an understatement! I mean staying in what must be the lowest altitude resort within the whole area & then to top it off residing in 2 Star accommodation, not to mention the 20 minute gondola ride to the slopes every morning! Could it get any worse? Well much to my pleasant surprise, the Vanoise turns out to be excellent, the ski hire shops are all opposite the hotel, the gondola is only a 100 meters (maximum) walk away where you can arrange to pay €20 for a boot locker & secure ski storage for the week. Well worth it believe me :0) I digress, getting back to the Vanoise, the rooms are spacious though not the height of luxury they are comfortable with a balcony & en-suite facilities. There's a TV plus a safe which is free of charge. My room had a full size bath yet only a hand held shower. However there's limitless hot water on tap & the efficient heating made for a comfy situation. Oh providing you leave your towels either on the floor or in the bath, they will be changed daily, if that's your want! Now here's the best bit you eat & drink in the 3 star Amelie which is adjoined & twinned to the Vanoise. Breakfast is a cold buffet affair & though reasonably extensive you won't get porridge. The only hot items are boiled eggs & toast. However it's all very tasty. The evening meal is mostly a set three course traditional French menu, choice is pretty non existent, unless you make a specific request. The wine also appeared to be quite expensive in relation to the quality offered. Regarding the food don't be put off by the limited choice as the quality & flavoursome fare was a very pleasant suprise, way, way better than anticipated. There is an adjoining bar that has a daily happy hour from four thirty to six pm. This is very comfortable with leather sofas for you to fall in to & regale the days prowess on the piste. There is free wifi in the bar along with a computer linked to the Internet which is also free plus there are also large screen TV's showing sport on a loop oh & finally a pool table. My main criticism here would be the loud techno music that's used to attract the après crowd to the indoor & outdoor bar area. This really is not conducive to chilling out. Finally a big cheer must go up for the staff who are extremely friendly & hard working. All the front of house staff were amazing. Go stay & feel very smug at the bargain you've bagged :0) Happy holiday!

We stayed here for a week over Christmas. There were eight of us and we all found the hotel to be clean and comfortable with easy access to the bubble which takes you directly into Meribel. The staff were absolutely charming and helpful - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Breakfast was good offering a very reasonable selection. Dinner was a perfectly acceptable 3 course meal. A well stocked bar although it was sometimes difficult to all get a seat. All in all a good place to stay and one to be recommended if you are looking for somewhere that is not going to over stretch the budget.

Great hotel for a 2 star! We have stayed in the Amelie next door previously but cannot find a single complaint about The Vanoise. The rooms were big and warm at all times, with underfloor heating which helped with drying our gear through night ready for the next days snowboarding! The only thing i have to say was that you could not use the ski lockers which are provided with The Amelie but as i said the rooms were big enough and warm enough so it didn't really matter keeping our boards in the room. All meals are served in the Amelie which were great.
Overall a great holiday and would definately stay there again!!

We stayed here at the end of the skiing season and found Brides les Bains ideal, almost 2 holidays in one- skiing in Meribel at the top of the cable car, and springtime in Brides. La Vanoise was perfectly comfortable, we were allocated a triple room at no extra cost. Food was tasty, although fish was served 2 days running and my husband doesn't like fish, though we weren't told we could choose an alternative, we were on a set menu. My only criticism of the staff was that they could have been more friendly, some of them couldn't crack a smile most days. Overall a very good value for money holiday, half board for the price of self-catering in Meribel
