It would be difficult to enthuse too much about The Richmond Rooms and Cafe.
Owners Klaradyn and Nicol welcomed us online from the moment we booked and from then on did not stop spoiling us. This is a gem in the Karoo. The design is visually stunning in all respects and on top of that luxuriously comfortable at a reasonable rate. Our room had a jetmaster open fireplace in the Victorian bathroom, which made soaking in the tub a pleasurable treat when the outside temperature was approaching freezing. There is another tub in the outside courtyard for summer!
A cosy library opens to the charming garden.
Jono's food at the Cafe was remarkable. Surely the best Kudu steak imaginable. My partner's lamb chops were equally delicious. Jono kindly donated another round of lamb chops for our braai on our onward journey the next night. This was hospitality of another order.
We wandered around the town in the morning before we left, captivated by the book- and antique shops that Klaradyn and Jono had told us to visit. She arranged especially for Gert Vlok Nel to open up for us in owner John's absence.
In conclusion, we must advise travelers not to wait upon the order of their going, but to go at once!

Wife and I stayed the night on a trip to Cape Town. And this won’t be the last time as I would make a detour to stay in this establishment.

Decor is quirky and beautiful. The room well appointed and generous in size. We stayed in a suite that had its own sitting room and library.

The suggested meal of the day was lamb curry. Excellent.

Staff were fantastic and very helpful.

There is a small shop selling artistic decor items and we bought half the shop!

Wonderful stay in Richmond. The hotel is so beautifully decorated, and the dinner & Breakfast were absolutely delicious. the place is very charming! Richmond has a lot to offer for a small town of the Karoo: museum, modern art, gallery, antique shop, book store, easy walks around the town... The owners are also very friendly.

My wife & I stayed here last night en route back from Cape town. It had been highly recommended by friends. What a treat. We were warmly greeted by Sylvia who showed us to a beautiful room with a nice external courtyard and a second room ensuite. The decor is very tastefully done and was exactly what my wife loves. We had a lovely set dinner menu of chops & milk tart and met the owner Klaradyn. The meal was perfect in every way!!! we met Klaradyn and her husband Nicol again this morning as we went to their Padstal 20km out of Richmond for breakfast. As with the lodge this was also excellent & well worth a visit.
At 760km from Morningside sandton it was a easy drive home today. we will definitely return, next time with our dogs & children.

Everything about the Richmond Cafe and Rooms was perfect, and we felt rejuvenated on a long trip home... Jonno and Daisy, and Nicol and Klaradyn were the most welcoming hosts who saw to our every need... the decor exemplifies artistic, eclectic chic... our room was spotless, the bed ensured a good rest, the private outdoor shower a delight... Jonno and Daisy, the chef team, produced an imaginative menu, with beautifully presented dishes highlighting local fresh produce and ingredients... we really loved our all-too-brief stay...

The visit was excellent. We were warmly met by the owners and Sylvia. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated had everything we needed. The dinner of butternut soup and then lamb chops was delicious. The breakfast in the morning was so good, enough to keep you going for the whole day. Safe parking for the vehicle. Will definitely be back.

I decided to try Richmond as it is just over halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town. I was warmly welcomed on arrival and taken to my room which was a pleasant surprise. However, what I liked the most about Richmond Rooms is the Cafe. I had a delicious dinner in this buzzing and charming venue. Definitely coming back for more of this.

As always a truly wonderful experience. Nicol & Klaradyn and their great staff made the night stop our stay brilliant. What this couple have done to develop this Karoo oasis halfway between Johannesburg & Cape Town is amazing . Rooms are tastefully decorated and the food is something else.
Watch this space they are now busy to set up a farm stall , Karoo padstal some 20 km outside of Richmond in the direction of Hanover. It is planned to open in May/ June
