Detailed Reviews
The best thing about our stay at Gudvangen in early June 2023 was the spectacular setting. We had reserved one of the viking style rooms. It was nice enough but small and quite expensive. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. We had arrived in Gudvangen by electric boat and were scheduled to continue on to Voss the next day by bus. The bus stop is conveniently located right at the Fjordtell. There is a recreated Viking Village but we arrived too late and left too early to visit. Of all our stops in Norway, this is one I might skip the overnight next time and just hop on the bus from the boat.

Its more like individual cottages with small kitchen. Very expensive for what you get in this place. Great for families with kids. Isolated but had 3 restaurants within walking distance. only one hanger in the closet.

I'm over in Norway visiting the Fjords. Coming from the USA, you should immediately knock one-star off all the hotels (meaning- lower your expectations).
Location: perfect. Right in the Naeyefjord (rated the prettiest). The ferry to Flam is 50 yards away.
The room: Ok. So there are two types of people: those that backpacked in Europe before, and those that didn't! I now understand why the reviews on this site are so conflicted. It is cheap and no frills, but clean!! In an area where hotels are $250-300, this place is a deal for $90. The sheets, and room are clean, but there is a shared shower. That is the pension / backpackers difference. A backpacker would be happy with clean sheets, clean shower. A non-backpacker would be horrified. No bathroom or shower in the room. It would terrify them.
The food: the dinner is expensive $40 a plate (welcome to expensive Norway and no other options), but in a land of $6 water, $7 coffee... The brunch at $16 is a deal. Stock up, eat up, fill yourself for the day! Eggs, toast, sausage, OJ, coffee, also salmon, pate, cheeses, cold cuts, marinated herring. So stock up, and eat a huge breakfast. And the view is a great morning view!!!
You want a nice place in expensive Norway- drop $300 on a room; if you are on a budget, this place is satisfactory for $100/night.

We stayed in one of the Viking rooms they offered, and loved it! The decor was great and the views were stunning. Our only suggestion would be to add a small refrigerator to the room so as to keep beverages cold.
We also had a meal at the main restaurant where we ordered the chef's sampler which consisted of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The appetizer was beer marinated trout with horseradish cream. I'm not a horseradish fan, but this was actually subtle enough that it really complemented the trout. The entree was deer tenderloin with carrot puree. It was amazing. My wife is normally the carrot fan, but I wound up eating more than my share, I enjoyed it so much. The dessert was butter-fried plums, which my wife had a lot of misgivings about from the description, but we both loved the tangy sweetness. We would heartily recommend this meal.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. We hiked some in the area and glad we stayed rather than just rushing through onto one of the fjord boats to Flam, as we saw so many tour groups do.

Well let's start with the only few positive things. Which is 2 names worth mentioning staffs, jorunn and Rene, then the natural beauty which Gudvangen is blessed with. Breakfast was
But sad to say their rooms are so incomplete and insufficient which made our stay in the hotel very uncomfortable.
What they list in the booking as double room is actually nothing more than a Portocabin. And they charge it the cost of double room. So overpriced.. The bathroom ls are horrible and stinky either water clogging the floor always. No enough hangers or shelf in the bathroom. The rooms also don't have any shelves or enough hangers to keep clothes. The extra bed/ sofa cum bed which they set for our son gave way the moment my son lay on it. Ther room is quite far away from the reception. And you have to walk down all the way outdoor and get wet in the rain if you have to get anything from or inform anything in the reception. There is no intercom in the rooms also to call the reception .
The heater in the room was not working .
Would never recommend this hotel at this cost. Try to book early and get some hotel in Flam.

The Gudvangen Fjordtell is at a level of quality equal to a budget hotel in the US. The bed was uncomfortable, the linens were cheap, and the walls were thin. We stayed in a "Viking Room", which had a large skylight in the ceiling. That sounds great - and it was in a way - but it makes it nearly impossible to sleep during the summer when it's light so long. And the skylight itself was cracked and dirty. The included breakfast was adequate, if not particularly tasty.
This hotel has basically 2 things going for it - a stunningly beautiful location, and it's the only game in town. The only reason we decided to stay here was because all the hotels in Flam were sold out.

Our room with a waterfall view was unforgettable, all the staff we spoke to were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices. The valley and the fjord are such a beautiful setting and the shore is only 2 minutes walk away

Beautiful Fjordtell in the narrow Valley of Gudvangen. The geniun design and Beautiful placement next to the steep hillsides and deep fjord gives a serenity feeling if you allow your self to sit down and relax for a few moments. The seafood restaurant and the viking Valley diner provides high quality food, Quick service and gluten/lactosefree courses are availble. Well Worth a visit.

So glad we stayed here instead of Flåm. The location is beautiful and so much less touristy. This hotel is pretty much the only place to stay, and we chose the Viking room just for something a bit different. Maybe a bit gimmicky, but the skylight is a nice touch looking out in to the mountains, and room & bathroom bigger than other hotel rooms we stayed at in our Norway trip. No trouble sleeping even given the light, and there was a fan in the room too. Prices for what was still available in Flåm were a lot higher than here, had shared bathrooms and were much more hostel-y. Breakfast buffet was a bit of a letdown though, but it was included in the price so not much to complain about.

We arrived the 28th of july, got the key to the appartement no 1.
The room was full of black flies, even if we took out some they came back.
TV did not work even if we trief several options with the remote control.
Some trafick noise from the road in front if this room.
Not wort the price in our judgement.
The area around was butiful and the seafood in the restaurant we would reccomend.

Hi Kimberly, when I booked this accommodation online I was given the options to choose room with breakfast and room without breakfast so we went with the breakfast option as there are no other hotels in that area to have breakfast especially as we wake up first thing next morning. Regarding your question about "the car is left at the ferry" can you explain what you mean by that but if I understand your question correctly you can take your car on the ferry for the ride to say Flam but you cant leave it on the ferry overnight. There is heaps of parking at the Gudvangen Fjordtell accommodation for you to park overnight. Hope this answers your queries.
I travelled single there in May and was given a room with 2 beds placed together.
Hello🌞 you can walk from the Ferry to the hotel. IT is by the ferrystop. About 50 meters....
Hello :D The breakfast starts at 07.00 am :D
