Having visited Rome many times I now avoid the crowds pre-cruise and stay in Civitavecchia. This time we chose the Piazza Fratti B&B, a good choice as it turned out. On a charming piazza the B&B has 5 rooms each with their own key. Our two rooms had their own entrance on the stair landing and opened onto a small kitchenette arrangement with a fridge etc. While we certainly stored wine in the fridge we did not use any of the amenities due to the terrific number of great restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were both doubles, very clean and each had an en suite bathroom. Mine over looked the Piazza so had a great view of "Piazza life" which ranged form a spirited game of "footie", (soccer for you Americans) to families strolling together and of course the odd demonstrative couple. Post card Italy!…
We had the very nice Mimosa room which was spotless and had views to two different streets. Small bathroom ensuite. There is a communal kitchen with limited supplies but also a fridge with bottled water and an espresso machine. It was rather hot and the a/c was quite effective. Benilde recommended some restaurants and pointed out a couple of the options for breakfast. We were given vouchers to take to the breakfast place and asked for the veg option which was a very large wheat croissant filled with chocolate as well as tea/coffee. Rooms are one flight up and no lift but the building is typical old Italian so not expected.
Highly recommended! B&B Piazza Fratti is a little pearl in the vibrant heart of Civitavecchia. Walking distance from everything you can need: both port and train station are easily reachable, plus you’ll have plenty of shops bar and restaurants nearby (the b&b is in the historical centre of the town), together with the seaside promenade. The place itself is high quality standards, perfectly kept, cozy, well equipped and every comfort supplied (ie aircon). Benilde is amazing: charming and pleasant, she’s nice and really good in taking care of her guests. Proper looked after! Definitely the ultimate place - feels like home!
The town of Civitavecchia is a popular port town where the cruiseships depart and return to. We have embarked on our cruises here, now two years in a row. It is a good idea to come a day early, and relax a bit after a flight before embarking the next day. I looked on TripAdvisor to find this hotel and we were satisfied with our stay here, mainly because it fits that precruise need very nicely. The price is a big determining factor, a simple place, but clean and relaxing. The town is right there, with shopping, restaurants, etc. if you need anything. What I like best about staying here was that everything is walkable. The location of this B&B is very central, yet quiet only a block from the main street. You can walk from the train station and you can walk to the cruise ship.
We arrived in Civitavecchia and went to check into our room. There were two rooms booked with a confirmation. When we got there they said we had no room and they didn't have a confirmation for us. No rooms available. I am writing this review while I have the confirmation in front of me. They were no help to us left us standing in the little square outside. Three strangers helped us find a wonderful B&B ,which was a ranch, we got a shuttle and left. This Is no way to treat customers let alone run a business.
