My husband and I stayed in the spacious Genario Suite, with a private balcony, for a week in February 2020, prior to a cruise. The hotel is clean and comfortable and is in an IDEAL location on the main waterfront street of the city. There are plenty of reasonably priced cafes and restaurants within a short walking distance. The train station, with connections to Rome and cities to the north, is less than a 5 minute walk. There's also a Hertz car rental location right next door. Fellow cruisers staying at Hotel de la Ville all had nothing but positive comments. The hotel offers a shuttle service (additional charge) directly out to the cruise ship. Some local taxis do not have security clearance and must drop you at a shuttle bus stop at the port. We enjoyed the tapas themed restaurant, TaVi, located in the basement of the hotel. The basement was the former site of Roman baths. In addition to tapas type selections, there are a number of Italian "comfort" food items available. I LOVED all the pasta dishes I tried! We opted for breakfast in the price we paid, which is served in a spacious dining room just off the small lobby. Breakfast selections, although somewhat limited, were very good, plus there are several Italian coffee machines for espressos, lattes, hot chocolate and more. Staff were very friendly and accomodating ~ particularly the servers in TaVi. We enjoyed the location, hotel and our room SO MUCH that we pre-paid accommodations in the very same suite for a cruise we will take from Civitavecchia in October 2020. HINT. Book DIRECTLY with the hotel to get the very best rates and possible attractive discounts.…
We booked a triple room for our Christmas vacation, we arrived at 9:00pm, want to catch the early plane, so we order breakfast at 6:30, the receptionist refused and tell us that the breakfast buffet will open at 7:00 am, it’s unfriendly hotel.
we used this hotel several times as a step to be on time for a cruise of the city. Every time the service was courteous, the room clean, and the facilities inviting. The price was right too. When we came early, management strived to make the room available early too.
Location is the best thing: easy walk from train station, close/easy walk to heart of town and strolling around and there is a local bus that takes you right to the cruise port terminal. Very convenient. Guest room was fine - large and although a little down at the heels, perfectly acceptable and we had a great view of the sea overlooking front street area and train station but there were no noise issues. They offered a ticket for free drink but room was packed and with only one waiter we ended up moving along. Dining room opens late (by jet-lagged American standards) so we walked a block down the street (towards town) to a lovely little place that offered fish, pizza, you name it. When we entered it was busy and by the time we finished it was completely full (hotel may want to consider opening restaurant because we would have stayed there and we saw other hotel guests in this restaurant). Breakfast in hotel was fine although staff was not at all friendly and somewhat curt. All together hotel was easy and fine for one night.…
Beautiful hotel. Immaculate. Room spacious, quiet, comfortable. Like sleeping in a palace. Tavi restaurant in basement is beautiful. More than I expected for the price. Will definitely be back. Close to port for cruise ships.
