My stay at this village was my 15th Club Med vacation. Cefalu was the 11th Club Med that I have visited. Comparing this to my previous experiences, in one way or another, Club Med Cefalu was outstanding and so pleasant. My wife, whose Club Med GM resume is also fairly lengthy, would definitely agree with how I rate Cefalu.

I found the location of this Club Med on the map of Sicily very attractive – approximately an hour by train / car to and from the big city of Palermo, and walking distance to the small town of Cefalu. Then, when I set foot on the village proper, the smart architecture and design – small buildings hugging the rocky hillside by the coast - won me over immediately. Everywhere I went on these grounds, I could just pause and take in the scenery. The ocean, the coves, the sunset, the town of Cefalu, the beaches, and La Rocca, the landmark hill of Cefalu, were all picture perfect. The many structures in Club Med seemed to flow nicely together with the natural environment.

When we were greeted by the GO Luka in the reception area upon arrival, this semi-outdoors lounge area already appeared very posh. Once we got to our villetta, we knew that this was no common Club Med lodging that we had experienced many times in the Caribbean. The 400 sq foot room plus the expansive porch area had smart, simple, but nice furniture. The shower and the tub were part of a comfortable, open, and modern bathroom set up. The partial ocean view and the beautiful sunset added to this altogether welcoming experience. Yup, I recognized what the 5-trident rating came with then.

As nice as our room was, for us the Club Med experience mattered more in where GMs and GOs would meet up, and that would be the common spaces. The main pool and the main bar were connected by a nice and spacious deck area. Besides the many activities and games during the day, the happy hours on this pool deck were very inviting. I remember fondly the sunset, the scenic and comfortable seating, and the complimentary champagne. In fact, the proximity of this pool deck to the boutique and to the reception area was a better layout than several other Club Meds that I have visited.

The main restaurant, La Rocca, interestingly, was slightly hidden from the main bar and pool deck. It took us a few extra steps up a gentle hill to get to this location with a gorgeous view. Yup, from day 1 on, we never got tired of the view of the Cefalu town across the bay from the dining area. With respect to the food, we were both happy with what Club Med offered in terms of quality and variety. Although not at the same level as the over-the-top decadent meals at Club Med Miches in the Dominican Republic, we loved the joy demonstrated by the local restaurant staff. Their warm greetings and enthusiasm really added to our dining experience, day after day. We did venture out to the Il Palazzo gourmet restaurant for one late breakfast, as well as the La Riva restaurant for a couple of lunches. Since having waiters at our table was not a high priority for us, we never felt too motivated to eat away from the La Rocca buffets. To be honest, the longer wait for a table at La Riva, and witnessing how stressed out the wait staff there were, we never considered that beach front dining experience a good choice.

By the end of our first full day in this village, we realized that it was taxing to walk from point A to point B in this hilly landscape. OK, one could treat walking the slopes and the stairs as exercise, especially the 90+ steps going down to, AND back from, the coves. As we were getting more practiced in these hill climbing during our stay, we recognized that it was no shame to call for, or just wave while walking, one of the 6-seat electric transports. This transport arrangement would definitely be attractive in very hot days of the Sicilian summer.

The part of our stay that we enjoyed the most was swimming in the ocean along the Club Med property. On this mostly rocky shoreline, Club Med had only one sandy beach on the far west end. From this beach eastward, they built several lounging decks by the water all the way to the next cove, where the Il Covo bar was. From the beach, GMs could walk along these decks, and over walkways built alongside the rocks, to Il Covo for drinks. We, along with a handful of GMs who were comfortable in ocean swimming, would instead swim along this stretch or out to the floating platforms. On days when the ocean was calm, we would swim all the way to the cove that had the Club Med Nautical Center on the far east end of the village. Clear and warm water and plenty of small fishes made this aquatic exercise very enjoyable. These Cefalu cove-to-cove swims ranked near the top of our list of favorite ocean swims.

On our second day in the village, we appreciated the GO Alexandro’s leading a group of us for a morning walk to visit attractions in the town of Cefalu. My wife and I enjoyed this trip, did some shopping at the stores, but also noticed how sweaty we got even though it was only 80F. From that day on, we made two more visits together to Cefalu. With these visits, we took the taxi there and walked home. Taking the taxi allowed us to finish breakfast at Club Med and still be able to catch an early train at the Cefalu station to visit Palermo. These two visits to Palermo, one of which took us to Monreale, were fascinating and documented in another trip review. When my wife went to Cefalu by herself to climb to the top of La Rocca, she insisted walking both to and from the town. I could understand her decision, since the 13 Euro “fixed” taxi fare for the 3km drive was rather expensive.

During our stay, we were the only Americans in the village. For GO’s who were comfortable with English conversation, we had many nice exchanges. For GO’s who spoke other languages, they tried really hard to do their job and to make sure that we were happy. Much appreciation to the sailing GO’s Christian and Andreas who got us in and out of the rocky channel. Same gratitude also to Marion the nurse GO who cleaned up a cut in my foot. We were fond of the exercise sessions with GO Majori in the pool and the gym. Then, around the village, we were impressed by the graceful presence of the Chief Barq. We saw him often casually chatting with GM’s from the pool deck to the beach, not to mention welcoming everyone to dinner. When we expressed to him our wish to extend our Club Med week to 11 days, Barq seamlessly arranged very efficient booking and lodging GO’s to take care of us. He was indeed a classy manager of this very nice place.

Yes, within the first couple of days in this Club Med, we were fairly determined to extend our stay in the village rather than switching to a B&B in Palermo for the last 4 days of our 3-week trip in Europe. It did not take much of the Chief’s or other GO’s emphasizing how nice this place was. We knew it. I highly recommend this Club Med for those who have visited other clubs and to those new to the Club Med experience.

My wife and I just spent one week in ClubMed Cefalù.
Amazing vacation and super kindly staff.
Special thanks to Anna from reception, Damiano from maintenance, Filippo and Santo at the breakfast restaurant, Michelangelo great water sport manager, the people at the Zen zone, at the Rocca restaurant and at Palazzo and at Il covo restaurant down at the beach, all service personnel very kind and literally showing attention to the very little detail. Food very good but sometime the French “influence” should leave more room to the best food in the world that’s the Sicilian, I’d suggest the local flavors to take more space however, again, the judgment is very positive anyhow.
All the best and see you hopefully soon again.

We've just returned from a week at the resort. It was wonderful, from the stunning beauty of the location to the standard of service, rooms and all round friendliness. Bruno, Luca and their entourage did everything to make sure that the highest standards were maintained at all times, down to always being greeted with a friendly "buon giorno" by individual staff members which made us feel so welcome. Roberto looked after our every need when we ate in the Palazzo with typical Italian humour, whether for lunch on the terrace with glorious views to more formal dining in the evening. While we were generally happy with the food, especially when we became familiar with the best places to eat, at times we did feel it could've been better, particularly fruit at breakfast time. We took the excursion to Palermo with the marvellous multilingual Marta who was unfailingly helpful to everyone in the group. Unfortunately she had to hand us over to another guide at the sites whose approach was more academic than we would've liked. It was a well worthwhile visit but we would've preferred an overall view of the city. We left on a complete high and can't wait for our return visit next year!

Positive stuff first: The room was lovely, well laid out, clean, light and airy. The resort location was beautiful and we really enjoyed meandering around the site looking at different views during our stay. The check-in was good and we were given a lot of information about the resort and welcomed nicely. The pool was refreshing and clean. A 20 minute walk into town was the highlight. Swimming in the Med, whilst chilly, was beautiful with the water calm and clear. Loved it!

Negative stuff: We stayed for 5 nights in a Villetta Deluxe Seaview - yes, we could see the Med if we stood on our verandah and stretched our sight around the corner of the room. So very disappointed with relation to the views offered by other rooms around the resort. We travelled in the middle of May and the resort was not at capacity. We didn't pay the price to look at other rooms. There was absolutely no privacy on our verandah as it faced a main walk way.

Water sports such as kayaking, sailboarding etc were not available. This was one of the things we were really looking forward to. The shower was luke warm, no hot water in the room. Lucky it was warm weather, however, a hot shower would have been appreciated, by the time you got the bath tub to a decent level the water had turned cold even with the hot tap only running.

The Zen pool was not clear, it was a dirty muddy green, with a slimy mossy entrance to the pool, and after a longish walk to get to it, we decided against swimming in the pool. Lawn mowers were being used and this did nothing for "Zen".

The food in the main dining area was average to say the least. A lot of variety, however, it was rarely kept above 'warm' temperature and attempts to get the meat cooked a little more was difficult due to the language barrier. Wait staff were indifferent and we often had to wait for bread and water to be allocated and we would need to wait for more food to be cooked or to arrive after serving trays were empty. At the beach dining area we waited 20 minutes for service after being seated. Not even water was offered until that time. It took over an hour to eat what we thought would be a quick meal.

We felt the spa services were overpriced and didn't use them. We have had better prices at other 5 star resorts around the world for much less cost.

At the bar around the pool only one staff member was able to make a decent cocktail, thank goodness he was there! A movie was being filmed at the resort whilst we were there, and whilst this was okay, it did intrude with guests being diverted from areas or walkways and was not what we signed up for!

We have stayed at other Club Meds over the years, and this one definitely has one of the best outlooks, however, there were too many disappointments with regards to the view, some staff and the food.

We have been at this club three times. So we like it very much. The sports and tuition were excellent. You could have done sports, tennis and water sports all day. Yoga with Morgan was divine. Since 90% at the club were French, and we the only Brits, Morgan made a special effort each evening to teach us (and relax us with her cloud and lake imagery) in English. The housekeeping part was superb: rooms serviced twice a day with local staff working hard and fast round the clock. The food however was just awful this time. Particularly the pasta - you are in the home of pasta and the pasta chef could not cook pasta! Each evening he would turn out cold and far too tough pasta or risotto. The meat chef served cold meat or chicken pieces, with the lamb (consisting mainly of a plate of bones) being tough, cold and rather unappetising. We actually lost weight over the 10 days’ stay. But then there is free Champagne on tap which makes up for the poor standard of food. If Club Med has to make savings because of the Covid crisis then cutting back on good quality food is not the right way to go about things. This is a 5 Trident resort and really very expensive. When I had a meeting with Executive Head Chef Yuri about the quality and state of the food, he laughed and replied: “Ok I’ll sack the whole chefs’ equipe then!” The Food and Beverage Manager has a lot to answer for. She was not available for comment. Restaurant manager Andrea and his serving staff tried their very best to keep the many complaining customers happy each night, but agreed that it was a tough task. There must have been kilos of food waste each evening because customers were sending back the dishes with poorly cooked pasta and meat.

This was our second stay and we loved the village even more than last year. We discovered places in the club which we had not seen before, such as another cove where you could sunbathe and get into the sea even more easily by steps on the rocks. We did lots of sports which are avaiable all day. The local service staff wore masks all times and the food was super delicious and very healthy. The all inclusive means you can even get free champagne. The Viletta rooms are simply the best and though expensive worth every Euro. Some have 180 degree unobstructed views of the vast sea.

Second stay at Cefalu.
The resort remains a paradise on earth despite some necessary adaptations due to the Covid pandemic. Still no crazy signs nor dancing.

Tennis team again at top with Joyce, Sun and Joe.

Unfortunately we had to share our stay with the President of Club Med, Henri Giscard D’Estaing. The GO team was nervous and the CDV was definitively more focusing for his President than the other GMs which may be understandable but GMs are also providing a job to all CM staff.

Maybe linked to that presence, the welcome team decided to cancel the GMs referents, Charlotte, we were missing you😎.

The Palazzo evening menu has been changed And the service is now terribly slow (all tables were complaining) while the Sommelier anyhow didn’t find the time to visit us and sell a bottle of wine.

The beach restaurant has on the other hand upgraded its service.

Zen pool is still over the top and main pool was pleasant with some Covid-friendly animation.

Not to forget, Francesco the excursion manager is still excellent with really impressive narratives. Thank you.

We will for sure come back, hoping the “king” will be in another resort and the GO team will be adapted to the resort and its GMs.

We arrived late at night to be welcomed by the most charming receptionist Alessio Gangi Gangu. We were made to feel relaxed from that moment on. An electric buggy too us to our room where champagned and other goodies awaited us. Alessio also arranged for fresh food to be sent to our room as a late supper.
Our room was incredible, with the most comfortable bed, and huge free standing oval bath, separate shower, and toilet facilities. All needs were provided for.
The resort itself is exquisitely designed with both natural and manicured gardens. Incredible views over the sea, local town, and mountains.
The dining room offered both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the sea. All staff were amazingly helpful, and every meal offered a huge variety of choices. Every single dish was beautifully cooked and delicious.
Members of staff often came to sit with us at mealtimes and each and every person we had the pleasure to meet were delightful, and enjoyed their roles at Club Med. The Chef de Village (the manager) was charming and had time for each and every guest.
We enjoyed several activities during our visit including salsa lesson and the daily aqua-gym class.
The resort has so much to offer whether lounging by the pool, swimming in the sea, tennis or completely chilling out in the natural adults only Zen area.
I can highly recommend this resort without a question of doubt. Should you wish to visit, and would at a competitive cost, contact me at esti@ect.org.uk

I have been to multiple Club Med resorts before but Club Med Cefalu is by far the most beautiful, breathtaking, peaceful and modern I ever experienced. The incredible location, the amazing food and the unique kindness of Sicilians are only a few qualities of this resort. This Club Med in particular offers so many activities for all members of the family but also knows how to keep a calm, refined, sophisticated atmosphere. The staff is obviously very welcoming, especially the ones we don’t usually see first, who stay behind the scene and make our stay as great as possible.

I want to thank a few people who really made our ten days enjoyable : the Chef du Village Barq, Caroline, the tennis instructor Anne-Sophie, the sailing instructor Rafaelle, the gym instructor Jeremy, the archery instructor Alessandro, the bar and restaurant staff (Rosalia, Marco (lifeguard), Gaetan, Luca, Francesco (Beach Bar), Laureto (main restaurant), Antonio), our usual cart driver Francesco, from the animation team Brice and Nikki, and finally Sophia from the jewelry shop.

Thank you again to everyone for everything. Club Med is by far one of the most pleasant and luxurous institutions for all-inclusive holidays. As a regular customer, I highly recommend it!

This is my first experience of Club Med. I was hesitant because I'm not really into resort holidays with crowds of people and a herd culture at mealtimes. This was completely different to those stereotypes. In no way did I feel a tiny part of a huge crowd or that this was tourism on an industrial scale. My family and I were made to feel very special at all times. The resort large so definitely no overcrowding. It is luxurious and the food is out of this world! There are plenty of activities for those that don't like to sit still. Equally you never felt pressured to take part in activities if you just want to chill out and relax. Most staff speak French, Italian and English. They also speak other languages too, but these are the main ones. The rooms were an ideal size and very comfortable. I never experienced issues with loud noise or loud music. It was one of the most relaxing holidays I've ever had in my life. My son is 11 and he found plenty to do. There is an app that you can download that has a lot of useful information about the resort and the activities. A nice touch was the dress code for the evenings. Staff and guests really made an effort and it felt great to get dressed up every evening and hear some live music. The atmosphere was so friendly without being fake. I think everyone was genuinely happy to be there!
I must give special recognition to Barq the resort manager for really taking the time to speak to us and make sure we were having an awesome time. Also, Tano who is a manger was very kind to us. Salvo went above and beyond to make us laugh and make us feel so special every day. Emilie in the spa was also a friendly face as was Miriyam, Elizabeth and Rafaal behind the bar. Charlotte on reception really so efficient too and helped a lot. By the end of the week, we felt like these were not just people paid to serve us, but that we made some wonderful friends. We came away feeling drawn to go back again. Thank you to Club Med Cefalu and we hope to see you soon !

There is a gym on the premises but I would not call it well equipped but then I am used to large gyms in US with weight machines, incline treadmills, stairmasters, and a lot of free weights.
