Khowarib Lodge nestles on the banks of the Hoanib river in the magnificent Khowarib Gorge in north west Namibia. 15 Canvas chalets project out from the river bank on stilts over the river bed providing unrivaled, shady views of the cliffs opposite. On the fringe of Kaokoland, the lodge offers a perfect jumping off point to explore the remote north west of the country, either independently or on one of the lodge's extensive guided tours. The immediate surrounding area of Damaraland has many rich and interesting activities including desert adapted elephant and Himba settlements within easy reach. Khowarib Lodge prides itself on the service provided by the local Damaran people. Of particular note are our guiding staff who all have many years experience in the area and unrivaled knowledge of the local environment and wildlife.

We have stayed here on previous occasions when transiting north south and always like the set up. Comfortable chalets set overlooking the small river. Each fully equipped with comfy bed, balcony and out door bathrooms. Meals taken in the central bar and restaurant areas often in the open air. A fixed menu most evenings with a buffet style breakfast. A good choice of wines too.
Booking was made direct and we paid by credit card so really easy to secure a room for our use.
The location is very green and bounces with birds and they have a decent sized swimming pool too. There associated company can organise adventurous multi night trips into the remote wilderness areas or just local excursions in search of wildlife in the Hoanib valley.
We like it.

We stayed for 2 nights in Jan 2020. The lodge is build along the river Kowarib which had a little bit of water at the time. The tents are very nice. Private shower and toilet are without a roof which makes it extra pleasant. The lodge has 3 main areas for dinner, bar and reception. There is a good pool. We enjoyed our stay. The young lady manager looks a bit out of place in this remote part of Namibia. We were disappointed with the wifi policy. We had to buy vouchers for N$ 190 for 300mb. This was the only lodge we had to buy wifi vouchers during our 22 days travel in Namibia.
Food was excellent and also our trip ti meet the Himbas was very pleasant.

We stayed in the camp site at this lodge but were able to visit the bar for drinks and also have dinner at the lodge. The camp sites are well laid and most have lots of shade. There is a sink and water supply to each site and the ablution blocks are spotlessly clean and well presented.

The lodge is absolutely stunning. Beautifully laid out with fantastic views of the surrounding area. Amazing sunsets here.

The best part of the stay for us were the hosts Alfeus and Maria. They were so helpful and their dedication to their jobs is second to none. Maria is just a wonderful lady and Alfeus is very knowledgeable about the way of life and the people who live in the area. Even though we were the only guests in the bar and dining area for the two nights they both ensured that we were looked after in all ways.

We learned so much for this great couple.

Africa and Namibia have suffered enormously over the past two years. Any support for businesses here is essential

Chairs piled up to the side of the outside restaurant area did not make the area very welcoming at all, the Staff seemed bored & disinterested - food very average. The tent was not very clean & after a huge sandstorm came up in the afternoon we had to search around for someone to come and clean out our tent as there was sand literally everywhere. There was a dead cow in the dry riverbed near our tent which smelled very bad - Management & or Staff must have been aware of this when allocating our tent to us at it was already beginning to smell which surely means that it had been there for a fair bit. While we were trying to get out tent changed the river came down in flood (amazing thing to be lucky enough to see) which luckily moved the carcass away from our room. Overall not a great experience

Warm welcome and swift check-in , help with the luggage was very appreciated (long distance between parking and chalet. This place has only 14 rooms/chalets
Our canvas chalet on stilts was overlooking the banks of the Hoanib river (very dry).
Comfortable beds, outdoor bathroom (open air) with nice warm water
Big noisy bug blower (ventilator) available to cool off a little.
Mosquito net available.
Nice cosy bar, good food, there is also a Campfire place available where you can enjoy the rest of the evening.
Very friendly and helpful staff
WIFI payable.

My husband and I spent a wonderful time at the Khowarib Camping Site. This electrified site also featured a wonderful cooking area and a fabulous view of the river below. The restaurant dinner was a great meal and the staff were professional, kind, and attentive to our requests. With covid, there were only a few other guests so we were able to enjoy the solitude of the entire facility. As this was only a stop-over for the night, we were so happy with our stay, we will be returning in the next few months. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable. Great Job.

Very nicely located lodge surrounded by mountains by the river. Tent with comfortable bed, fridge, fan. Very clean. Spacious bathroom with plants inside. Terrace overlooking the mountains and the river. Hot water pool. Bar with cold drinks open all day. Very good dinners. Breakfast is a bit modest, but considering that the nearest large shop is 200 km away, it's hard to expect more. Very good service - both in the bar and during dinner or breakfast. An interesting trip to the Himba village (although our earlier visit to the Damara village was more interesting) and a trip to the surrounding wilderness - springboks, ostriches, giraffe. We had a good 2 days. I recommend.

Wonderful area, very quiet, next to the cooling river. Lodges are spacious, bathroom and toilets outside, which is surprisingly very charming. Rooms are modest inside, with local materials. Lodges are in between tents and reals "housing". Quiet a lovely experience. Food is served outside on a terrace of bar/restaurant, of excellent quality made by a Namibian chef, breakfast served on the same spot. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great location as a start for a safari to the remote river valley direction of the skeleton coast (desert elephant, antilopes, girafs, ... and much more. Visit to the Himba tribe is a must do

Spend two nights at the lodge. The swimming pool helped with the heat during the day.

Food are prepared by a young local chef. Very innovative and creative with the dishes.

Bush, the waiter and Jackal, the barman, not their real name though. Management can’t pronounce their indigenous names and decided to give them the said names. Customer service very tops

The outside shower add to natural blessed experience

Very quirky and rustic lodge in a remote area. Accommodation was a tented room overlooking the (barely flowing) river, and with an attached walled fully outside bathroom.

The food was good here and the pool was very welcome in the significant heat.

Staff were very helpful with charging our electronics when we lost our adaptor.

We made our own plans to visit a Himba village just south of Sesfontein and also visited Sesfontein Fort (now converted to a hotel) for lunch.

Would definitely recommend a visit to this remote area, staying at Khowarib.

We had satellite wi-fi till Aug 2016 and then we stopped it. The reason for this was that people/visitors don't realise how remote they are and then they expect the Wi-Fi to be 110% fast and efficient. Like I said it is satellite Wi-Fi and if you get more then x5 people downloading or up-loading files it is very very slow, and then we get people complaining, so we decided , NO WI FI. Many Thanks
