Fanjove is the smallest of six islands in the Songo Songo Archipelago, just off the coast of Tanzania. Barely a kilometer long, it takes less than 40 minutes to circumnavigate on foot. This beautiful, newly built barefoot luxury tropical island is surrounded by azure blue seas with white sandy beaches that are shaded with coconut palm trees. Step off your beach villa deck, toes in the sand and wade right into the lovely tepid ocean. Swim and snorkel straight off the beach. SUP or kayak for a marine safari or explore the beautiful pristine 11 kilometer coral house reef snorkeling or diving.

We went to Fanjove following safari in the Serengeti for our honeymoon, and our first impression of the island did not disappoint. It is even more beautiful than the photos with beautiful white sand and turquoise waters, and very friendly staff. The decor of the main seating area, restaurant and rooms is spectacular and the rooms are incredibly spacious. We also loved the gym which was overlooking the water - what a wonderful place to have a workout! Our initial room was quite far away from the main area and we did get moved to the second closest villa a couple of days in which I would recommend, and we were very happy spending our days lazing in our hammocks and dipping in the ocean. We also went on a really lovely sundowner cruise on their Dhow, spotted dolphins on a marine safari and went snorkelling and khayaking so there is no shortage of activities. Another huge bonus at Fanjove is the absolutely delicious food cooked by the wonderful chef Edmund and his team!

However, I hate to counteract this with what I can hopefully describe as a few teething problems for the island which we are told have been addressed such as staff training etc. that needs some improvement. Our biggest disappointment was the fact that on the website it says Fanjove do not accept children under 6, and only 2 between the ages of 7-12. We were dismayed to find that on our special honeymoon we were sharing the island with a family of 18 people including three young children. Thankfully, they were a lovely family and the children were immaculately behaved but they did messily take over the whole main area so we had limited space. I desperately hope that following our comments through our wonderful travel agent that they are now clear on their website as this was not acceptable, and if they do have a family of that size in the future then they absolutely must make the island exclusive hire.

Saying that the response from the owners to us was good and I feel like they really took onboard our comments. I must also say that we would 100% go back again as it really is a beautiful place and it’ll keep on getting better!

Fanjove Island is absolutely beautiful. I do not think you could find better beaches or seas, turquoise water and white sand anywhere, just outside your equally beautiful room, which had good showers and plenty of plugs, extremely comfortable beds, sofas and hammocks.
There were so many different places to relax with great beach beds etc plus a very good spa. A trip to watch the sunset on a dhow is a must.
Facilities are first rate and the manager Francesca and her team were top class, nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile.
I hope I get the chance to return, it's right up there with the best.

Great place for a get away from everything kind of break. Except you don’t get away from great food and great service! The boat trip to the island might not be for everyone and it can get windy! A light breeze is great to keep the temperature down but at night the wind was sometimes a bit strong

What a place to spend our 25th wedding anniversary. Amazing weather, amazing staff, food was incredible, the beach front chalets are so luxurious, and you literally step from your patio into the sea.special mentions to Hussain who took extra care of us and to the Chef and his team!

Who doesn't dream of spending a few days on an uninhabited island, where everything is arranged for you? Such an island is Fanjove. Here you can dream away from your hammock at your lodge, with a view over the ocean. You don't have to do anything here - but if you want you can swim, snorkel, spot dolphins and whales, walk, take a traditional dow into the ocean, etc. And everything is taken care of in a very discreet way. Excellent food in the lighthouse.
It is with amazement that such a place really exists!

After the days spent in the bush at Jongomero camp and Siwandu camp, we had 5 nights left in Fanjove.
5 days of sweetness, flavor (Thanks to Edmund for your delicious cooking).
5 days of sun, sea, white sand, wind.
5 days of diving, lazing, reading, letting yourself live between a sunrise and a sunset.
5 days in a Lodge with irresistible charm: that of its lighthouse which lights up when the sun disappears, its beach houses opening onto the ocean, decorated with great taste, its white sand beach immaculate, from its sailing trips in a dhow at sunset.
5 days of careful, attentive and smiling service.
We already know we will come back.
