3 charming cottages and Libertas House amongst apple orchards on a working fruit farm. Pretty private gardens and amazing views over the valley and mountains.

Libertas House was everything we expected and more. Situated overlooking the beautiful Elgin Valley, as a family we thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay and would love to return again to this French-styled cottage in a very beautiful part of South Africa.

Stayed at Lavendar Cottages - Libertas House - for the weekend of the AfrcanX Trail Run event. It is a lovely big spacious farm house over looking the Grabouw mountains. Peaceful and quiet, great to spend a weekend with family there. If you are going to participate in the AfricanX event this accommdation is a good option as it is not to far from the venue.

We stayed in Libertas house, which was very tastefully decorated and spacious. The area is very peaceful and beautiful and there is a lot to do in the area. My only feedback is that the showers in Libertas house did not work very well, the water pressure was very low, and the white linen looked a bit old and yellow. But on the whole the house is very nice and we enjoyed our stay.

The toilet did not flush the toilet paper down properly. I informed the owner and was advised to use the toilet brush to do it.
There was only 1 blanket on the bed in the middle of winter and no extra bedding in the cupboards. The instant coffee was hard. There was a coffee plunger but no coffee for it. The pedal of the pedal bin was broken. There was a hole in the 1 hot water bottle. On the website it said that there was wi-fi but we found that not to be the case. The kettle had rust on the inside. Definitely not worth the money.

Last year we spent a weekend at Lavender Cottage No 3. On our way home from a beach holiday last month, we decided to stop over in Elgin for a night to visit some wine farms in the area. This time we booked at Libertas House. As luck with have it, lock down was imposed the day we arrived. It did not matter. We spent two glorious days in Libertas House with views beyond compare. The house is so well-equipped and so beautifully decorated and the surrounding area so stunningly beautiful, we felt as if we were in Tuscany or Provence. Cannot recommend Karin Boome's beautiful and reasonably-priced cottages highly enough. We'll be back! Shirley Johnston Wilson.

Pros: Beautiful view of the orchards and distant mountains. Picturesque from the outside. Peaceful and quiet.

Cons: dirty and musty. Full of cobwebs and mould on the kitchenware, curtains and ceiling. Uncomfortable bed. Shower leaks (dripping through out the night made it difficult to sleep!) Stove and microwave very old and hardly working. (Stove plates only working on highest setting)
Cottage badly in need of upkeep/restoration with lots of cracks and evidence of rising damp in all the walls. Not fit for longer term occupation as you will probably get ill from the mould and damp.

Had guests stay here for a wedding. Robbed at knife and gunpoint at 2 am by organised gang who took everything from overseas guests.....No word was made to us from the owner about numerous recent attacks in the area.

Security was completely substandard. The property being close to the main road is especially unprotected.

The recent crime in the valley is of great concern to everyone... We all subscribe to Farmwatch, security companies and the Police. We do advise guests - and we did advise Andy's guests at Libertas house - when they came to collect their keys to use the alarm systems in place. Libertas house has a security gate at the entrance to the farm - all guests are given a remote to open the gate. The house has beams outside, and alarm inside ...... There are clear written instructions at the front door and security pad as to how to activate the alarm. Guests arriving back from a function in the early hours are not always alert and fail to activate the alarm. We do understand the distress of the guests and feel awful for them. They did use the alarm on occasion but admitted they did not activate the alarm that particular night. Unfortunately no security is going to work if it is not activated. We hear this is a general problem at accommodations establishments.

Tucked away, private and tranquil. You are left to your own devices but close by the main farm house, should you need anything. Very safe, fireplace, appointed with all the basics. a converted farm worker's cottage. Enjoyed our stay enormously. Great place to unwind.

Karin Boome welcomed us to the cottages with open arms. We were taking a holiday with our 3 dogs and they had no problem with our fur children. There was ample of space and beautiful scenery right on your porch. The fireplace was lovely in the cold Elgin Valley and they provided us with wood. The stay was very relaxing and peaceful. Would definitely recommend!
