Ours was a late booking over New Year. we stayed in garden room 11 and the Villa Exner was very relaxing. We had dinner in each night including a gala dinner at New Year. The staff were all excellent. We enjoyed our room with a view of the garden. A very laid back place which suited us as we wanted to rest. There is not a lot else going on in Grabouw itself entertainment or dining wise - or so we thought. We only discovered the excellent indoor Elgin Railway market - shops and many food choices late on in our visit. You really need a car here to get around.
Not enough is made of all the wine tastings you can do in the Elgin Valley. We visited Charles Fox (great views and fizz), Iona (great views and service and no fees) as well as the amazing Almenkirk. I feel the area could do with a better organised wine tasting service (they hide their light under a bushel) but you can probably hire a taxi for the afternoon or seek out a tour. Not as touristy as nearby Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
We liked the big comfy bed, breakfast and dinner, the choice of local wines, the peace and quiet and the great service (they don't do lunch but did manage to fix us something to eat when we arrived at 3pm). Any changes? Only 1 bedside light switch (should be 2), robe hooks right next to shower would be good and a sheet of A4 highlighting the main attractions like the wine tasting options and trips and Elgin railway market would be nice.... but that is just me being picky.

Lovely hotel. We were warmly welcomed. The room was a good size with a lovely verandah on which to relax. We asked so much from Sasha and he rose to the occasion every time. We required our lasagne to be heated, which was dealt with promplty and efficiently and delivered with plates, cutlery and serving spoons. The next morning, as we were participating in an event, we required breakfast at 4:45 am which was delivered with a smile. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you need. We will defintely be returning.

Villa Exner was such an unexpected find and I'm so glad we found it! The room (luxury garden room) was exquisite and gorgeous. The attention to detail made it feel like we were staying in someone's home as opposed to a generic hotel/guesthouse room. We especially loved the spacious and stunning bathroom with a deep bath that accommodates two adults easily. And the breakfast, which was served in our room, was memorable, especially the plunger coffee. I also swam in the warm salt-water pool when it was raining, which was glorious! Thank you for our stay.

We stayed 2 days during our honeymoon in May and it was excellent
We arrived in the rain and were given umbrellas without having to ask! Check in was quick and covid protocol was observed to the letter.
Room is beautiful with so many extras that just show class and perfection on the owner’s part. Very comfortable stay – we travelled to surrounding areas during the day so we did not use the beautiful pool and gardens, and we were there while it rained most of the time
Breakfast was excellent and such good value for money!
They will see us again for sure

Villa Exner is my go to everytime I am wine country with guests visiting from abroad. I love this place because the owners take so much pride in their work, which means the level of customer service is best in class. Their rooms ooze character and are maintained to a very high standard. Food is the best! I love their breakfast and hope their resturant opens again soon. Truly a hidden a gem!

The Residence Boutique Hotel is beautifully romantically situated and has a romantic garden. The owners are very friendly and those who want authentic Indian food will get their money's worth. Only negative point: we gave our laundry (a bag full of sportswear) to be washed without asking how much it costs. We ended up being charged for the laundry at 1320 rand (70 euros!!!). Too bad, otherwise we would really recommend the hotel, but this is a reason for us not to go there anymore.

Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to welcome you at The Residence. We thoroughly enjoyed having you stay with us. We are glad that you enjoyed the facilities and agree that the establishment most certainly does lend itself to a romantic escape. Please note the hotel currently offers a limited laundry service and is priced per item. We are in the process of placing laundry costing in guests rooms. Our laundry pricing structure is in line with other 5 star hotels. We hope this clears any doubts you may have and wish to welcome your return.

After many years of racing by this area on way to Hermanus or Garden Route, we decided to stay and explore area. Worried by so few restaurants for evening meals but we had four OUTSTANDING meals. Lovely location and property. Waiters Eric and Daniel good company and our visits to local wineries during days equal to any in Hemel en Arde, Franschhoek or stellenbosch, smaller but often met winemaker or owner so more personal. Thanks for a great time, now when can we return...?

We had the most excellent 3 night stay at Villa Exner - I only wish it had been longer! Our room was clean and beautiful furnished, the bed extra comfortable and the bathroom an absolute luxury. Breakfast was a special treat and we felt spoilt having it bought to our room each morning. Our host were so welcoming and friendly and the Rhubarb tart was delicious 😉! Looking forward to coming back again hopefully this winter.

The most stunning suite and property with a very friendly disposition. We were greeted by Sasha and shown to our suite from the car and was as helpful throughout our stay as he was from the beginning. Gorgeous, high end finishes in the suite and a pleasure to stay in for the day and enjoy the warm bathroom with underfloor heating (which in winter felt amazing!) with massive bath to going out and exploring the area for the day and back to a ready made-up room to feel like royalty.
