Everything about my stay was enjoyable. Friendly staff, excellent food / menu. The room was clean, neat, warm, and together with the view and the quiet it was a wonderful break and did my soul all the good. Altogether and awesome experience.
I saw a special on social media for A very price, including breakfast. Absolutely loved the stay over. Beautiful old building, friendly staff and stunning outdoor. Our aircon was on heat when we were showed our room and as it was cold outside, it was ao cosy in the room. There were a double bed and a single bes in the room. Very neat and clean. Bar frisge, coffee, tea and sugar. You have a corner bath as well as a shower. And even during loadshedding we had power. The room have a fireplace in the room and the wood is packed next to it. So if you want a romantic evening, you can light the fire. Even the food on the menue is affordable. The brrakfast was delicious and a big varienty. From hot food, to muesli and yogard, cheese, juice, coffee, tea. You name it and it is there. In the middle of the dining room there are a fire and this was the perfect way to end our stay at the hotel. If you juat want to relax and enjoy nature. This is the place for you. Beautiful hiking trails as well. Saterday nights they also have a dinner and dance that you can book beforehand. Thank you foe the great service we received…
A lovely stay for a chilled weekend away. The food was good, staff friendly and accommodating. The Saturday dinner dance was a real treat too. Value for money. Close enough to make easy trip to Elgin and Caledon!
Absolutely loved the beautiful mountain scenery and the room. In the middle of winter, the floor heating was a very nice touch. Veery much enjoyed the common living room/lounge with fireplaces. Wish we could have stayed longer
Very pleasant stay and thanks fo accomadating my two children and grandchildren last minute and for relocating us to the best rooms suited for our arrangement Breakfast and staff was on parr and even room service was great
We stayed at the Houw Hoek Hotel on 27th April 1997 and again on 26th April 2022, exactly 25 years later. We are certainly not disappointed in going back after all that time. The place and the people is/are just amazing. Thank you!!!
I was in one of the new rooms (181) and it was very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom quite big as well. The restaurant however is rather average and breakfast quite boring if you have it 5 days in a row. Same for dinner one night at the bar... fast food level, very uninspired and not at all up to date with South Africa's top restaurant scene. A pity because there's nowhere to go in whole Elgin for dinner...
We had to stay over as we attended our close friends wedding. I've been following your hotels socials for a few years so was keen & excited to visit! However that was rather short lived! It was mine and my husband's 1st time staying in a 3 star hotel so we are used to too notch everything. Unfortunately this was not the case at your establishment. Your rooms need serious upgrades ie: bathroom facilities, moldy showers are not a good look for any type of guest accommodation. The bed was absolutely horrible, I had no sleep. Saturday evening we tried to order a pizza to which we were told the kitchen was closed.. This was ok but having the gentleman tell me to rather call for service from my room to which I asked will they be able to serve me food, he said no so not sure why I needed to call room service 0_o This was a 1st for us and a last, I still don't get what the hype is about when people say they going to houw hoek, maybe we missed it or I'm pretty sure It cause we used to greater, this experience didn't sit well with us. Upgrade your rooms, especially to let out any odours. The buffet breakfast was also average. Beautiful views of nature going around, the space has SO much potential! …
Venue great. We had a beautiful view of the mountains and the room was very comfortable especially the very large bed which suits me as I am quite tall.. The shower was excellent, one of the few that you could turn the water on without burning yourself, and had plenty of space to dry yourself in the shower space. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the Houw Hoek walking trail. Suggestions. Dining room looking tired and flies a nuisance. I am sure there could be more walking trails from the Hotel.
We stayed over for the Saturday dinner dance to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. The room was clean and spacious, but an interleading door to the room next door was not soundproofed, and we could hear the conversations clearly - so privacy is an issue. We spent some time at the bar and the service was extremely slow - they seemed to be very short staffed. Our 3 course meal was good, but again, service was extremely slow. The breakfast buffet was, as always, fantastic.
