We visited Trail's end in March for the second time. This is an awesome venue to celebrate group sporting events and just relax. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and always helpful. The rooms were clean and the bathroom facilities were spotless. Do not be afraid to use the shared facilities!
The food was very good, reasonably priced and there is a small selection of beer on tap, bottled beers and various wines from the region. Particularly impressive was that when we ordered dinner for a set time, the food was prepared and ready at the requested time.
This property is well located and the Grabouw parkrun starts 200m from their door. Their are various MTB trails which also start from outside their gate, and the Grabouw railway market is a short walk/cycle (2.5 km one way) from Trail's end.
The Elgin country club is also close by with excellent access to the Eikenhof dam for water activities.
In winter, they have lovely fire places going and their is always soft background music. Their is secure parking for cars and bicycles and the Management are super helpful and always on hand with a personal interest in everything.
I strongly recommend Trail's end.

I loved the style of the Trail's End bike hotel, it is very minimalistic, with nice features like open fireplaces, relaxing couches, shared dining tables, big generous portions of food for hungry cyclists, and loads of interesting second hand f books you can browse, read or buy to take home. The hotel is brilliantly located for outstanding cycle trails in this beautiful valley, including national parks and the famous Oak Valley. I had a cycling epiphany in this area, and the fynbos is in pristine condition. The owner is incredibly helpful, cycling with you to show you how to access a ride, and the service in general is excellent.
The only improvements which need to be made are in the sleeping quarters: ventilation of rooms - maybe add fans? and put in lighter duvets for summer and smaller (thinner) pillows for comfort. Otherwise an excellent place and I would love to go back again. Thank you very much for this wonderful experience.

Our weekend at Trail's End was an absolute treat. As a mountain biker it is such a lovely experience to have access to trails from the doorstep (literally!) of your accommodation, and for there to be facilities to easily store your bike during the day and overnight. We particularly appreciated the attention to cleanliness throughout the hotel, the high quality linen, the DELICIOUS complimentary breakfast and sitting on the verandah after a hard ride with a non-alcoholic beer or a coffee and a delicious carrot muffin! The hospitality and service from all the staff was truly exceptional. Thank you all for a great weekend breakaway!

We love having mountain bikers to stay. It's one of the main reasons we converted our factory into the 'ski-lodge for bikes' - to enable access to the amazing trails that surround us. We look forward to hosting more and more mtb enthusiasts as the word spreads. Thank you!

This is an absolute hidden gem in the Western Cape.
If you are an avid Mountain Biker then this is a must.

We booked the Trails End W2W tour.
We were a group of 8 riders.

The hotel is just perfect, purposefully built to cater for riders and so well appointed. A lot of thought went into the design and development but thats not where it stops.

Pieter(owner) manages the property himself alongside his family. Together they have cultivated the most hospitable culture. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the team.
We were fortunate to have Pieter and his two daughters ride with us. This added a backgarden feel and really reassured us as we climbed into the mountains.

The rooms were all clean, fresh and are in great condition. The bed was extremely comfortable.
The housekeeping was great through out the weekend.

The Chef deserves a proper round of applause.
The hotel was full for the weekend. The food was outstanding and really good value for money.

The front of house team worked really hard throughout the weekend. They truly made us each feel right at home.

We were extremely privileged to partake in the Trails End guided tour through the Elgin Valley. The tour was very well organized and catered for all levels of riding.
On our tour we had several routes guides all in radio communication, a mechanic and a sweep on a scrambler.

As tour hosts, again they thought of everything and then went over and beyond. Thank you to the water point hosts. A pleasant surprise....

The whole team exceeded everyone of our expectations.

We have already booked to do this all again.

See you soon,
Anton Gillis

I booked a two night stay for.myself and my friend to go and explore the numerous trails on offer on the area, and secured some private coaching. Upon arriving we were met by the owner Pieter Silberbauer ans welcomed to the simple but totally adequate accommodation and facilities at Trails end. After checking in, we prepared for our first ride only to be surprised that Pieter was in his riding gear and was ready to " show us around" . Three hours later after enjoying a moat spectacular ride we arrived back at the lodge. Shower .. cold beer and absolutely amazing burgers later we settled into a good night's sleep. Breakfast was great .. a continental or hot breakfast option. Coffee was excellent .. great barrista. The ne y morning we set off on glorious ride to Oak Valley. Excellent conditions. Upon returning we had private coaching with the awesome Lance Stephenson. So accomplished and accommodating. More great food and off your bed. Awoke on Friday and did some stretching and warm up in the pilates room. There is also a two lane 20 meter lap pool. Pieters resident technician Luke took us put to the spectacular Paul Cluver estate where we did some really challenging red routes . There are of course more gentle routes on the estate .. but we pushed the limits.

Just a most wonderful experience overall

In terms of a biking adventure trail, it's a great venue. The staff are friendly and helpful. However, if you're looking for a good night's sleep, you're going to have a bad time. The bedrooms are adjacent to the dining hall / entertaining area. So a group trying to have a good time are going to disturb anyone sleeping and in our case the groups were up till 2am. Our bedroom was also quite a disappointment as we had no plugs in the room for charging phones and no windows that opened outside for fresh air and ventilation , and opening the window into the entertaining area made it even louder. Bedrooms were nice and clean, and the bedding was nice.
Overall, it's more of a hostel than a hotel. So if you manage that expectation and are there for the trails then great, bur if you're looking for a place to stay, it's probably best looking somewhere else.

Really enjoyed our stay! The best part was cycling with the owner of the hotel to Oak Valley's pristine routes and visiting the Elgin Railway Market. The fresh grilled hake was delicious. Would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Despite the country going into another tier of lockdown on the day of arrival (meaning alcohol could not be served at all), the staff were incredible and prompt at sourcing alternative options. The staff in general were an absolute highlight of our stay, always attentive, professional and friendly.
As I myself am not a cyclist, most of my time was spent lazing in bed reading a book, and the hotel is so wonderful and peaceful. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the trails.
All in all, a wonderful place to spend the last few days of 2020.
