Ongongo means “magical” in the Herero language. It is indeed a truly magical if not spectacular place. Set in a small canyon in the far northwest of Namibia, a completely barren landscape with some villages close by – you will find permanent water simply oozing out of the mountain. The water is relatively warm which allows for swimming year round. The Ongongo Waterfall Campsite is situated 6km from Warmquelle. Warmquelle is about 90km north of Palmwag on the C43. The nearest fuel station is at Sesfontein – Alternatively Palmwag. Access is by 2 x 4 vehicle, but with caution as the road is rocky and takes some time to navigate through. 2 x 4 drivers are not advised to take their vehicles into the gorge, which is 4x4 access only. Vehicles can be left in a parking area at the top and equipment carried down. We highly recommend travelling with 4x4 vehicles! Available facilities: - Waterfall and crystal clear water all year round - 10 luxury campsites including - Private ablution

The campsite is lovely, and they have done good work with constructing various features to enhance the campsites. The pool is amazing. The staff were attentive and kind. However, on each of the two nights, I encountered the rudest fellow campers of anywhere in Namibia (different groups each night). Loud music playing for hours, dogs barking and running all over, flying drones, using our private toilet instead of their own. The guests from an adjacent campsite, where several vehicles worth of people were staying, even decided to put their tent in our campsite space for inexplicable reasons.

Really well designed and set up campsite. Incredible staff who are kind and helpful. Beautiful location, highly recommend doing a hike up the river bed. Lots of wild life, hammerhead birds, terrapins and the like!

This is a hidden gem in a dusty dry part of Namibia down a 6km stretch of very stony road you come to a lovely campground with toilets and showers. A warm spring fed pool with a small waterfall. Goats running around. It is so removed from the world. Camp stirs have a coveted slab with running water and sink. This is the dry season so I’m i sure of road conditions in the summer months. Definitely worth a visit.

It's not a nice road to get to this camp site, but we'll worth it. They have great amenities for washing up, private bathrooms, and a nice clean spot to camp. The rock pool and waterfall are absolutely beautiful, it was one of my best camping experiences in Namibia. Just don't forget your own toilet paper.

The location is unbelievable. It is really amazing the warm fountain and natural pool. The campsites is also neat and has recently been refurbished. Each campsite has its own wooden ablutions with solar lights. However there are double bookings regularly and the service and management is very poor.

The road requires a 4x4 to arrive which is part of the adventure. However we were very surprised on arriving at the campsite. There was only one other group staying there and another car that according to the manager had left and was probably not coming back. The natural pool is beautiful and the water is warm coming from a spring and waterfall. However there are a lot of bloodsuckers in the water. The new individual toilet facilities are very good but after the staff left for the night leaving us alone we had no water and no electricity. So for the real adventurer this campsite is great and we know that team are trying to fix the issues but it is important that you know this and do not rely on the website images for now.

The pool can be as magic as a disaster depending on the number of people you have to share it with. When you have to share it with 5 families drinking beer inside the pool, with 10 children making noise around, it's not worth the visit. One can visit and use the pool without staying in the campsite but you have to pay NAD50 per person. Not worth the effort.

We arrived late afternoon with a lot of rain falling in the mountains - the road very muddy and at some places flowing over the road with cross-cutting into the dirt/gravel road. A guide met us at the turn-off to the campsite and escorted us in wards towards the campsite ( thanks to the management for this courtesy) The last end to the campsite very rough and stony/rocky. On entering the campsite grounds we had to negotiate through a weak flowing river bed. - no concerns at that time. Campsite not crowded and the site allocated a bit small to accommodate the 3 x vehicles and on request for a different larger campsite the guide was not very helpful. The campsite was without water and the lights was like a disco lights flashing the whole time. So we did not make use of the lighting. The showers,Toilets and the wash basin was with out water. Needless to say the toilets was a disgrace after 6 people was using it. After discussing it with the tenant - he mentioned that the flooding of the area damaged the supply piping to the campsite. Put this aside and if the management can sort out the plumbing issues this will be a great site to visit for a couple of days. After setting up camp and cooked our food we had a nice surprise of the river flooding pass our stand. The rumbling and vibration of the ground during the rushing of water from the mountains added to a wonderful experience of seeing a river starting to flood and the noises and trembling's of the earth during it.
