Ongongo means “magical” in the Herero language. It is indeed a truly magical if not spectacular place. Set in a small canyon in the far northwest of Namibia, a completely barren landscape with some villages close by – you will find permanent water simply oozing out of the mountain. The water is relatively warm which allows for swimming year round. The Ongongo Waterfall Campsite is situated 6km from Warmquelle. Warmquelle is about 90km north of Palmwag on the C43. The nearest fuel station is at Sesfontein – Alternatively Palmwag. Access is by 2 x 4 vehicle, but with caution as the road is rocky and takes some time to navigate through. 2 x 4 drivers are not advised to take their vehicles into the gorge, which is 4x4 access only. Vehicles can be left in a parking area at the top and equipment carried down. We highly recommend travelling with 4x4 vehicles! Available facilities: - Waterfall and crystal clear water all year round - 10 luxury campsites including - Private ablution

Wow, for such a remote campsite, we were amazed at the facilities, a shaded, concreted area for your tent, overhead light provided, even a plug for our vehicle freezer. And of course, dont forget the crystal clear waterfall and rock pool to swim in, plus your own ablutions. The road to get to the camp is a bit rocky, and the very last little bit only suitable for 4x4, so if you are in a normal vehicle, park at the top and don't drive down, otherwise you will have to rely on the willingness of other campers in 4x4's to pull you up (a warning sign should be put up for guests arriving) - we had to pull 3 vehicles up during our stay, and the staff were not interested in assisting or concerned about it. Apart from that, it was really a beautiful, still-wild place to stay, everything you want when camping in Namibia, and the best community campsite we have stayed in, in Namibia

Once you mastered the road to get to Ongongo Waterfall Camp you get a surprise. Spacious campsite with roofed stoep with basin and hot water. private ablution. water at small waterfall lukewarm, pleasure to swim. The man that came down to help us book a camp was friendly but a bit unsure about payment and was relieved when my husband paid cash. The next day another couple from Switzerland came and another camp guy tried to help them but could not even speak proper English, so my husband help them sort it out. but the best was that a beautiful young lady from the village , Ursula Kasaona ,came to me and ask if she can do my laundry for a small fee. her English was flawless .I made use of her offer and I was so satisfied with the way she handled my clothes that I paid her a good fee. we had a conversation with her and I would like to know why the camp owners do not use her to manage the camp. She will be of more value to manage everything.
Just saying

It definitely needs a 4WD the approach road is really rocky.
Lots of children selling at the side of the road, firewood and souvenirs The camping is good, clean, and well maintained. Waterfall pool is very nice and ok for swimming.
Shop in Warmquelle was well stocked.
Dogs visit the campground for food scraps, they are lovely and friendly.. we were told that they were there so took food for them.

The campsite is lovely, and they have done good work with constructing various features to enhance the campsites. The pool is amazing. The staff were attentive and kind. However, on each of the two nights, I encountered the rudest fellow campers of anywhere in Namibia (different groups each night). Loud music playing for hours, dogs barking and running all over, flying drones, using our private toilet instead of their own. The guests from an adjacent campsite, where several vehicles worth of people were staying, even decided to put their tent in our campsite space for inexplicable reasons.

Really well designed and set up campsite. Incredible staff who are kind and helpful. Beautiful location, highly recommend doing a hike up the river bed. Lots of wild life, hammerhead birds, terrapins and the like!

This campsite is a real insider which you won't find in many guidebooks. Maybe that's also due to the fact that you need a 4x4 to get there (at least it is highly recommendable). Already the 6km off-road track from the main gravel road C43 is quite an adventure and once you get there you have to drive down a steep decent into a river bed, cross a fort through the river (the water is not very deep though) and then you are at the campground.
If you enjoy heavy off-road as much as I do you'll love the drive there already but even if you're not you'll see it's worth having tortured your car to get there. The total highlight is the natural swimming pool which is a pond that is fed by a natural waterfall. The water is pristine and warm (as it comes from a hot spring). Perfect for getting the dust of your skin after a long day's gravel road drive.
We spend the night in our roof tents but you can also sleep in your normal ground tents or you can rent en-suite tents from the campsite (see their website for details). Besides experiencing a true wild Africa feeling it is also very cheap. However it has to be said that the toilets and washing facilities are very basic but clean and well maintained . The shower has hot water too. Any electricity comes from generators but you have an outlet at your campsite so you can charge your batteries and such.
If you are so inclined, car-wise, and you don't mind the basic facilities this campground will be a memorable experience.

The pool can be as magic as a disaster depending on the number of people you have to share it with. When you have to share it with 5 families drinking beer inside the pool, with 10 children making noise around, it's not worth the visit. One can visit and use the pool without staying in the campsite but you have to pay NAD50 per person. Not worth the effort.

The road requires a 4x4 to arrive which is part of the adventure. However we were very surprised on arriving at the campsite. There was only one other group staying there and another car that according to the manager had left and was probably not coming back. The natural pool is beautiful and the water is warm coming from a spring and waterfall. However there are a lot of bloodsuckers in the water. The new individual toilet facilities are very good but after the staff left for the night leaving us alone we had no water and no electricity. So for the real adventurer this campsite is great and we know that team are trying to fix the issues but it is important that you know this and do not rely on the website images for now.

What an amazing campsite. it is very well-appointed with all the necessary facilities.

A 4X4 VEHICLE IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST. THE ROAD IS TOUGH AND IS NOT SUITABLE FOR A NORMAL CAR.

The pool at the base of the falls is a fantastic location for a swim and refresh after a day's drive. The site is clean and the staff is friendly.

This is a hidden gem in a dusty dry part of Namibia down a 6km stretch of very stony road you come to a lovely campground with toilets and showers. A warm spring fed pool with a small waterfall. Goats running around. It is so removed from the world. Camp stirs have a coveted slab with running water and sink. This is the dry season so I’m i sure of road conditions in the summer months. Definitely worth a visit.
