Had a wonderful lunch with my other half and it was a wonderful experience.
1. Wonderful music list and very quiete set up.
2. Beautiful view as you drive through to the restaurant (be careful of animals on the road)
3.Food was well prepared and I loved the dessert more. Remember to order water with your dessert.
4. My other half played a prank on the waitress by wanting to take off his shirt claiming that it was hot. The waitress was very accommodative of our crazy prank, so in simple they have wonderful staff.
5.I just remembered that we phoned while we were at the entrance, they reserved a table for us and we were accommodated at the restaurant.
Definately coming back...

We tried Amanzingwe on Groupon to see what the place is like. The staff are excellent and friendly, pity the reception is unfriendly, bordering rude..... that was until my wife joined me at reception.. then a vague glimmer of friendliness appeared.

The lodge is really not worth the 4 stars... it is past its prime... needs some tlc, as it is starting to get a bit "used". My perception was that it is riding on the wave of its prime years.... when they won awards in 2000, 2002 and 2005.....

The food was not great, more average. But is was priced average.... so could not expect more... still not worth the 4 stars.

I get the feeling that they cater more for weddings and conferences. ....

There was 2 small pools, one was being repaired and the other one on dire need of repairs as well.

The zipelines were great fun, I will return again for the ziplines. It is a must!

Our rooms was in an appartment block, a bit of a let down, as none of the pictures of the lodge prepared you for this. The room was big, but a bit empty for the size....needed couches.... 2 Queen size beds next to each other.... with loads of room to spare. The TV was a shocker. ... tiny tiny and not in good working order.... lots of damp in the room, and the smell did not go away with doors and windows open.... I am uploading fotos for the non believers..... the shower of the room on the floor on top of us was leaking like crazy. .. and for a long time by the look of the stains. .. also damp from the outside walls... really sad that they let the place become rundown like that. No shaver socket in the bathroom, or near the dressing mirror...

I will not stay over again at Amanzingwe Lodge..... real let down... but I will return for the ziplines.....

Just 40mins or so away from home we came here on a Groupon promotion for the weekend.

We were very pleasantly surprised. Rooms were spacious and clean. A safe provided for valuables. Staff not overly jubilant but were quite civil and helpful. A lot of menu items in the restaurant were unavailable but the steak was nice and the mushroom and snails starter yummy! Cocktail was delicious too.

The tv in the room is small as another reviewer noted but there is a large big screen in the pub which is much more social anyway. I spotted a wild cat of some sort so far and heard some crazy animal noises in the night. Did see some buck when we passed the entrance too. Hoping to spot some more wildlife today.

Having a good time so far and still have a day and another night to go so might end up writing another review ;)

We arrived to a grumpy receptionist who couldn't care less about us. We were early for our room so we went out to enjoy a coffee and tea on the patio. Another unfriendly waitress took our order and then came back and said told us what we owed without a bill. I presume the cash went straight in her pocket.

We then walked to the pool where many of the fake sleeper tiles surrounding the pool were cracked and generally badly maintained. A pool light was lying on the cracked tiles with exposed wiring. Just messy and unnecessary.

The room was OK, but nothing special. Horrible plastic plants and a terrible tiny TV so far away and up the wall that it was difficult to see. Remote didn't work properly either. You could just about change channels and volume if you had the patience, but to switch off, you had to get out off bed.

The restaurant was the most appalling. The menu looked tantalising with many interesting game options. Having settled on warthog ribs for me, kudu pie for my wife and a springbok and ostrich dish for the kids, we were promptly told that none of those were available. In fact there were no game dishes available. We had burgers and left disappointed.

Breakfast was even more disappointing. The cheapest jams and yoghurts, sticky honey bottles (which I mentioned to the chap behind the counter, but he just walked away and did nothing about it. The omelette was terrible, the pancakes were cold and undercooked etc etc.

The worst part of breakfast was the way the wait staff had to shout at each other across the whole restaurant and had the music blaring too loudly. There were loads of them around watching us collecting cutlery and serviettes from other tables, but none of them seemed terribly interested in doing their jobs. Horrendous!

Thankfully we were testing this place on a cheap Groupon. Unfortunately we still paid far too much. We played for 2 nights but couldn't stomach the idea of another terrible night and breakfast there so we left after one night. No one was much interested in why we left early either.

We checked in during April 2015 for a 3 night stay, We bought a Groupon voucher and decided to test this lodge out. We booked a luxury room for two adults.

Upon our arrival, at 14h20 we were told, by an unfriendly receptionist, that our room was not ready despite the check in time being 14h00. We waited a while and then asked whether we could have a drink at the bar while we waited. The receptionist rudely stated that our room was ready by then and there was no need for us to go to the bar. When we got to our room it was a family room with two double beds. The bedding looked old and dirtly and smelled bad. As we were entering the room we noticed the cleaning trolly outside our room which had no dirty linen, we can only assume that the bedding had not been changed after the previous guests had left.

In the room, there was s tiny television which was mounted so high up on the wall that I sprained my neck watching tv and had to actually stand on the bed to get a decent view. The furniture, fittings and bathroom were all in need of some maintenance. The bar fridge was broken and had a terrible odour. The towels in the bathroom were worn out and had an awful stench. We were shocked at the state of the place given the fact that they have a 4 star rating, it looked more like a dingy motel.

In the morning we went to breakfast. The staff haven't a clue what the word hospitable means. The toast was stale, eggs were undercooked, omelette was less than average. Whilst in the middle of eating, a waiter tried to take my fiance's plate away. After breakfast we went back to our room to find a cat sleeping on one of the beds. At that point we decided to pack our things and leave. We couldn't bare to put ourselves through that for a minute longer.

We told the receptionist we are checking out, after she had finally given us her attention and ended her telephone conversation with what seemed like her friend, she didn't even bother to enquire as to why we were checking out. She rudely commented that if we want a refund we should contact groupon.

A very disappointing experience...

Our stay at Amanzingwe is rather disappointing. Upon arrival, our room had not been cleaned properly and there were used earbuds on the pedestals next to our bed. Our dinner was barely edible and it seems that food is 'recycled', ie from previous buffets and bread toasted to hide the datedness. Service was not good. For dinner, we had to repeat our order three times. For drinks at the pool, we had to ask three times and then just resorted to fetching our own. For swimming towels, we asked five times before getting served. It really is sad that we still need to stay here another week... Unit design does not allow for any kind of privacy. Noise levels from Neighbours are high due to this design. Cleaning staff talk at the top of their voices, at one stage shouting across five units this morning, just after eight in the morning. In a nutshell, amanzingwe is great for conferences (from three previous visits), but definitely not for leisure or relaxation. Also, the four star grading is highly suspect.

We stayed during July for a 3 night stay bought on Groupon. Clean & comfortable accommodation with electric heating blankets to keep warm as well as DSTV. Bar fridge with ample coffees & tea, showers were clean & neat. No Wi-Fi in rooms only at reception area though. Nearby all tourist destination like Maropeng, Cradle of Mankind & Harties Cableway, etc. Buffet breakfast was the best with fantastic & very helpful staff. Felt sad when leaving...should have booked for longer period.....will stay there again.

We stayed in a luxury unit with two children and was amazed at how spacious the room was. Staff were friendly, breakfast was divine. Rooms were very clean. My only issue was that the managers/owners of the hotel did not greet.

Must say I really enjoyed my stay here in March. Firstly must mention the beautifully scenic views the lodge offers - just amazing. I really just sat and marvelled at God's artwork in the beautiful landscape I was surrounded by. The room was very clean and neat and offered a beautiful view. Housekeeping service was great as well. I must say I never expect food to be exceptional at in-house restaurants but WOW you guys serve really delicious food from the simplest breakfast to a well prepared steak, I enjoyed EVERYTHING! Also loved enjoying a drink on the deck at the bar in the early evenings and enjoying the serenity and view.

I would absolutely recommend this lodge for a peaceful, lazy getaway - its perfect!

Thank you Amanzingwe Lodge for making my stay memorable and I definitely will visit again!

We have passed Amanzingwe Bush Lodge on many occasions on route to Sun City, but never thought much of it... but we recently gave it a try when looking for a quick weekend getaway that was close to Hartbeespoort (Aug-2014). We stayed as a family in their Ingwe suites, the room was spacious, clean and overall very fair for their rate. Our rate included breakfast, which offered a generous English breakfast spread... While the hotel restaurant menu appeared somewhat limited, this was not an issue for us as we tried the buffet option on night 2 which included a few options of well prepared dishes... Staff was helpful whenever called upon. The lodge was of close proximity to many offerings of Hartbeespoort and surrounding areas. We will definately return.
