Agree with other comments that the new owners were very welcoming. The newly refurbished bar and reception area was of a good standard, very modern. The outside areas were very nice with lots of places to sit. Our teenager who used the pool said it wasn’t that warm. The pool floor didn’t look that clean. Good choice on bar. The bedrooms at this hotel let it down. It’s like stepping back into the 80’s. Our room had peeling wallpaper and the other room had 4 picture hooks with nothing on them. Too much clutter on walls in stairwell. I appreciate its being done up but for £110 per night per room (no breakfast) I expected better rooms. Saying that clean bedding, clean towels and comfy bed. Bathroom was also very dated and shower head was very small. The website wasn’t up and running before our visit but rooms do have toiletries, tv, tea and coffee facilities and hairdryer. Good location for old town and beach too. Good luck to the new owners as this could be a little gem of a stay when the rooms are done to match the downstairs.

We have just had a really relaxing week at The Queensmead. Simon, Samantha and Yasmin are doing their utmost to ensure every guest is happy , comfortable and starts their day with the best breakfast I’ve had for years. ( Laura and Yasmin served it with style !)
My teens thoroughly enjoyed the very ‘swimmable’ pool nearly every day and my other half and I enjoyed the well stocked bar after many delicious meals in the town. Simon pours an amazing aperol spritz - highly recommended.
We loved Shanklin and everything it has to offer. The Queensmead was our cherry on the top .
Thank you

This could be an outstanding place to stay but there a few issues which need improving. Very reasonably priced but rather make the improvements and charge 25% more.

The good…

Pleasant staff, excellent breakfast, great location close to beach and old village, heated pool and sauna, nice bar area with reasonably priced drinks and good bar food menu. EXTREMELY dog friendly.

The improvements…

Cleaning services were unreliable. Last thing anything wants on holiday is chasing management for rooms to be made up and bathrooms cleaned. This is a basic of a hotel holiday stay. Or rather advertise as aparthotel/airbnb.

The twin room was too small for 2 people. Either convert those rooms into singles with decent sized en-suite and good shower or merge with another room and create a luxury size room. Room number 2 was simply too small for 2 people for a holiday. For an overnight B&B OK, but not for 2+ days. The superior double, however, was great.

Somewhat frustrating writing a review like this. The good aspects of this hotel are really great. The improvements are like the hotel scoring an own goal.

Met with a very warm welcome from Sami who showed us to our room ( Room 8 Deluxe Double) Which was spacious with a king sized bed, bedding and pillows of good quality.
The Q hotel has recently been and is still ongoing a renovation although you wouldn’t know it,all areas are immaculate and very quiet.
The more trendy of hotels on the island with a dark gothic almost boudoir feel going on in the communal area’s and a lovely atmosphere.
I have a small assistance dog which was again very welcome and particularly enjoyed his sausages for breakfast which was delicious served by Yasmin who went above and beyond, absolutely lovely and a credit to you

It was the most relaxing holiday.
From the warmest greetings from Simon and Samantha, who only took on the hotel in June.
The room was warm and clean, and the breakfasts, to which there is a great choice, were fantastic.
The hotel itself is ideally situated with only a 10 minute walk to the high street or the esplanade.
We will return.

Comfortable bed and a quiet cosy room. Huge television that takes some time to get used to. Shower not great, takes ages for hot water to come through and flow is pitiful. Breakfast okay, the decorative aspects are unusual and clearly the owners have tried to create something unique. Reception failed to tell us about the code on the key and hotel closed at 10:30 pm so had to call owner for entry. Owners are friendly and welcoming. Good parking in area.

Nice owners, terrible service - NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY to stay here.
Waited an hour for breakfast and still had to leave before it arrived. Shower was a damp drip, had to run it for a few minutes to get hot water, seemed like the owners really struggled to keep up with a busy weekend. Shame, could be lovely if they invested in the basics, would not recommend for the price.

The hotel has a good location and a decent pool. However, the rooms and bathrooms were quite small; the showers were poor and had no pressure and the walls between rooms were very thin meaning we could hear a lot of what was going on in the rooms next to ours. The breakfast was very good however it was not always served with a smile. Overall, we would’ve expected better/bigger rooms and better service for the price. There are lots of other hotels near for far cheaper that we would explore next time.

Lovely hotel in a nice area near cliff path with easy access to the beach. Beautifully updated ground floor with a smart bar area. The decor of the rooms is currently being updated to match the downstairs area but despite this ours was comfortable and suitable for our needs. Bed was comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. Nice swimming pool and pool area in a sheltered spot. Family owned,. all staff were friendly, approachable and keen to provide good service. Dog lovers, they were really good with our dog.

Great location close to the esplanade and town centre. Hotel owners, Simon and Sam, were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. They reopened the hotel in June after refurbishing the ground floor bar area and are planning to revamp the restaurant and rooms in the near future. Bar area was superb for a refreshing drink after a day out exploring. Our room was a bit dated but spotlessly clean with tea and coffee, flat screen TV and en suite shower. Although we had a bit of a wait to get cups, glasses and the order sorted out, breakfast arrived promptly and was delicious! Outdoor pool was a bit chilly despite being heated. I would like to have seen a bit more information, such as hotel info sheet advising pay as you go for drinks and breakfast and local sights pamphlets. All in all, we had a great stay, helpful service, lovely atmosphere and wish Simon and Sam success in their new business.
