After being told they couldn’t hold a wedding event in June, this having been booked and rearranged pre covid, I’m now waiting over two months to get a refund of the money. Hope you all read this when the hotel starts advertising for weddings again

Room booked May 2020 Contacted by hotel to advise could not stay due to obvious reasons. Kindly asked for refund due to the hotel cancelling the booking and not ourselves. Refused a refund and told we could move the date to another time later this year which is of not use to us at all as the reason for booking was to stay over on that particular date on May. Explained this and was told the Government had cancelled the room not the hotel so they could not refund. Absolutely disgusted in the current climate that any companies can refuse to refund when they can not honour the original purchase.

Used this hotel for an overnight stay in Wigan, it's really easy to find and with parking in the centre of Wigan it's an ideal base. Room was very clean and despite facing a fairly busy road there was not disturbance from the traffic. I didn't use the restaurant but it was busy when I was coming and going so must be a decent enough venue.

Found the staff VERY unhelpful given I stay in the Mercure at Doncaster very regularly and have always found them to be more than accommodating. Place is dated and staff unhelpful even when not busy. tried to order drinks at 1500 to be told that my food and drink allowance only covers drinks with dinner. Un willing to open me a tab and process later. Despite 3 staff to just me in the vicinity. Leaves a very bad taste in a guests mouth. Not your finest Mercure at all

I find your comments extremely unfair, as our staff were merely informing you of the instructions given regarding your drinks spend. A tab is available for all guests, provided that they pre-authorise a set amount.

I strongly recommend the mercure wigan oak hotel. I had a great time there. The rooms are very clean and the members of the staff are so lovely especially Marine, Ashley and Melanie. Also, the hotel is well located as it is between Manchester and Liverpool.

On my initial observation of the place, it looked grand with a hint of modern flair , particularly highlighted by the over head neon effect lighting. The rooms are nice , but my particular appreciation goes to the staff , who , in my opinion, are very very positive and spirited people who encapsulate northern hospitality! Jade, Barbara and Melissa to name a few of the restaurant staff that made us feel more than welcome. We stayed on business for a total of 3 weeks and despite the occasional issue with the scrabbles eggs and mushrooms in the morning, it was more than made up by a warm smile and good service provided by the staff team. Melissa ( her name is in Disney text which always brings a smile ) and Jade is full of banter. Barbara has a northern charm . There are other staff but i can’t be expected to remember everyone’s name can I ?!? Johnathan Barwick
