Our aim was to spend quality time together and completely relax.

This hotel is in beautiful location, perfect for couples and those looking to escape the noisy world. We had a lake suite over looking Lake Windermere. Whilst the weather was overcast and drizzly it did not take away the stunning views and settings.

The Lake suites are set away from the main house but the walk is pleasant and there is always a quickly and friendly buggy to run you back and forth if needed.

The suite was finished with high quality fittings and an impressive (in January) log fire ready prepped for lighting. There are lots of eco-friendly touches from no waste toiletry bottles to all glass in the mini bar and sensor lighting. Just a few more steps to take, I.e. non plastic ear buds in the vanity box and they’ll really impress!

We opted for room service on the first night. Although the menu was limited for choice it was still good quality and delivered quickly.

We had reservations at Henrock on the second night. I will be reviewing this separately in more detail but I will summarise by saying we did not 100% enjoy the service experience and the food did not blow us away.

The staff in the main house were very friendly and welcoming. Our check in and departure were smooth.

We also selected a spa treatment on day two. The masseuse duo came to our room and competed the treatments in the suite. This seemed unusual at first but afterwards we both felt extremely relaxed and being in our own room meant that we could stay in the zone for longer. The spa team were very good and I would highly recommend them!

Overall we would like to come back to Linthwaite this year.

We stayed here for 2 nights in one of the dog friendly rooms (rm 31). It was super clean, spacious with a fabulously large bed. Great bathroom with a lovely walk in shower/ wet room and a separate bath. The hotel staff must receive detailed training as all were outstanding. Attention to detail is clearly there mantra. The point I think is worthy of note would be an explanation of the room heating controls (heated floors). It was only on our final morning that we realised that the bedroom floor was heated as well as the bathroom (separately) which had meant a few restless nights for our dog as he must have been to hot. COVID sanitisation was happening and all staff worn face masks for the duration of our stay. The hotel offers a concierge service with your luggage which was helpful. The bar seating area doesn’t lend itself to very many occupants particularly during the current heightened awareness but if you can get a seat in the conservatory the view is fantastic. The rooms are expensive given that VAT is reduced at the moment but despite this our stay felt special. Breakfast service was 5 star + with the waiting staff taking time to ensure nothing was rushed. Breakfast was delicious and certainly not to be missed.

We booked the hotel at relatively short notice and we were not disappointed. There is a real focus on giving a personal touch at this hotel. The importance placed on good service is immediately appreciated on arrival. We were greeted in the carpark by a super helpful member of staff who directed parking and provided a warm welcome to guests. Check in was efficient and the log fire near the entrance reflected the warm welcome we received from staff.
We took our meal in the bar on our first night as the restaurant was fully booked. The "bar" meal was well prepared and enjoyable as were the most agreeable surroundings. The artwork in the hotel is very interesting, stimulates thought, provokes discussion and spills out into the extensive beautifully laid out gardens and grounds.
Our Classic Room (entry level) was comfortable enough and to be accurate should be described as compact. No other rooms were available for two nights when we made our reservation. We would go for a larger room next time.
The hotel lounge, bar and conservatory are very attractive environments to sit in with large glass doors opening out on to a large terrace where one can enjoy beautiful uninterrupted views over Lake Windermere. The hotel's setting is exceptional.
Dining at Henrock, the hotel's restaurant was an eye opening experience. The food was delicious - every course. All members of staff were knowledgeable regarding the menu - clearly the restaurant takes its food very seriously. Social distancing appropriately observed - every table was taken and in terms of ambience, the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. Food was served on Royal Worcester plates and what was delicate, artistic Portuguese cutlery.
The brioche served with whipped butter was wonderful. Starters very good. We chose fish (hake ) for our main course and it was sublime. The chef Tom Barnes, certainly knows how to cook and serve fish. In short, the entire meal had a wow factor seldom experienced in a hotel restaurant, or indeed any provincial restaurant. This really is a restaurant and hotel worth visiting.
Particular thanks must go to Chonie who really went the extra mile and we are counting down to the next opportunity that we can get away to Linthwaite House.
Our thanks to all members of staff for making our stay memorable for all the right reasons.

I booked a room for two nights at this hotel at a cost of £648 and was later offered an upgrade at a cost of £135 , The confirmation stated "These rooms have breathtaking views over Lake Windermere or the beautiful Lake District landscape." After checking in we were shown to our room. We were aghast at the room we were given and said there must be some mistake. The cramped bedroom had no windows or any access to daylight. The sitting area (about 6 feet wide) had a small window which overlooked housing, other walls of the hotel together with some other kind of yard. Certainly not a breathtaking view nor was there any evidence of a lake. We told the porter the room was not what we had booked and he asked us to wait in the room and he would inform reception. After waiting for 15 minutes and hearing nothing we tried to ring reception on the room phone by pressing the button labelled reception. All we got was a strange noise and so had to use our mobile phone to ring the reception. After a few minutes a receptionist appeared who did not improve things and I had to ask her to leave before I lost my temper. She did say they would try and find an alternative room. About half an hour later we were told there were no other rooms available and that we had brought matters upon ourselves by requiring a room with walk-in shower. We had made both the original booking and the upgrade conditional on the room having this feature. We said we could not stay in the room and would go back home but not before we had received a refund of our payment. We went to reception where they tried to make a refund but the machine froze during the transaction. We therefore do not know if we have a refund or not. Checking with our bank they have no record of a refund.
We had further bookings in November and December at Linthwaite House but have now cancelled because we believe we can no longer trust the hotel to carry out its contractual obligations.

We were lucky enough to have spent 4 nights celebrating my birthday at this fantastic hotel before returning home under the government’s advice.

The property is absolutely gorgeous and has a real Cape Town winery-esque feel to it. The art work and sculptures in and dotted around the hotel’s serene grounds were beautiful and thought provoking. Walking between our lake view room which was very clean and cosy to the main hotel was a real treat as the view was breathtaking! The conservatory and dining rooms are tastefully decorated with a luxurious avant-garde feel and all come with stunning views over the grounds and lake Windermere. We’ve dined at many high end restaurants and felt the food at Henrock was some of the best we’ve had! Forget 10 course tasting menus, this was incredibly delicious high end food without the faff - a must try if you’re visiting the area. The location was spot on for us as everything we had planned including a special dinner at the 2 Michelin starred restaurant L’eclume aswell as walking with alpacas were all within a 30 minute drive.

We felt very welcome and looked after by all the staff including Pete and Charlie who were exceptionally friendly and accommodating during our stay.

We were very sad to have cut our stay short by choice but management were very courteous in handling the current situation and we would love to return during more certain times!

We needed to visit the Lake District for work and decided to make a weekend of it. We travel with two dogs and as regular travellers we know exactly what we need:

1) A room with outside access
2) Good room service

I always call ahead to speak to the hotel before booking. The receptionist was lovely and super helpful. She explained that dogs can’t go into the hotel but when I asked, said there was good room service. Perfect for us as we wouldn’t leave the dogs unattended in the room (and actually it’s not allowed anyway).

On arrival we checked into the room. Nice 👍🏻 We then settled down to order food and there were two options, a sandwich and prawn pasta. My husband went to reception to ask if there was another menu and he was given a bar menu. He got back to the room and it’s the exact same two choices. He called reception to ask if we could order from the restaurant menu to be told, bluntly, no!

So we are stuck, we can’t take the dogs with us. We can’t leave them and we can’t eat Gluten! After a 5 hour drive we just wanted to chill at the hotel but we are now driving around looking for take out.

It would have been so much better if the hotel hadn’t claimed to be dog friendly. We’ve made a decision based on false intel and it’s made us grumpy and not want to stay which is a-shame when you are paying nearly £300 a night for a room. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with breakfast tomorrow. I’d imagine we’ll have to go solo in shifts.

Very disappointing indeed and we won’t be returning on our next trip in a few months time.

Firstly, I know things are different now and the hotel was having to deal with staff being 'pinged' by the Covid app, but they were all excellent and although some things were not perfect, they were certainly very good. The things we were not happy with (and I was debating whether to give 3 stars), were things that detracted from the luxury experience they are obviously trying to offer.
Firstly our room, it was a Fell Suite with hot tub, described as having "astounding views", I don't consider a view of a bank of wild flowers 'astounding', although it was pretty enough, it was very much a view out the back. The suite was very spacious and well laid out with Molton Brown toiletries, although at the price we were paying I would have expected some hand/body lotion. We did not feel it gave value for money.
We had a very good breakfast each day in the restaurant, although we found the menu very limited on the 2 occasions we had other meals there. The evening menu was exactly the same as the Sunday lunch menu minus the roast pork, we were there for 4 nights and were pleased we were not booked in for dinner each night, as it turned out it was closed for 2 of the nights anyway due to Covid.
The gardens & terrace were delightful, the terrace was a very pleasant place for a pre dinner drink, although again it felt that it was penny pinching to not offer any nuts, crisps, olives etc with the drink.
We might well stay again, but would not pay the price for a Fell suite. Thank you to the staff though who made the experience a very pleasant one.

We stayed for 3 nights in what I think was a View Room with stunning views over the gardens. The whole hotel is exceptionally clean and attention to detail is excellent. Rooms and bathrooms are well equipped with very comfy bed, nice linens, pillows and towels, good supply of tea and coffee with fresh milk (hurrah!) and a reasonably well stocked mini bar. There was a room safe, still and sparkling water, sufficient hanging space, dressing table / work table, sofa and a decent hairdryer (top marks for that!) I was a bit perturbed by the fact that the bathroom had no soap except one of those hopeless small hotel bar types - it was not replenished at all and in times such as these I feel a bottle of liquid soap is essential. Similarly I would have liked a member of staff to pick up on one family group of 4 who did not wear masks walking through the restaurant on Sunday evening (this was the only time we spotted ‘no masks’)
The bar area and conservatory is fabulous for drinks, food and afternoon tea (if you want afternoon tea you need to get your request in) Henrock was superb - beautifully presented food which was faultless. A very small menu and I do wonder if there would be enough choice if you had any food allergies or just food dislikes? Also I’m not sure how often the menu changes as it wasn’t dated?
A mixed bag of guests which was pretty refreshing but one couple were whinging about the tables being too close together in Henrock (rubbish, but they insisted on being moved) plus the self same couple sent a main course back the next evening simply because he didn’t like it! Actually I had the same and it was quite delicious! Some people really need to lighten up a bit!
So the acid test is “would you stay again?” and yes we definitely would! Enjoy!

My fiancée and I had an excellent night at Linthwaite house. We stayed in one of the Lake Suites which was extremely comfortable and stylish (we particularly enjoyed the underfloor heating in the lovely big bathroom). It was faultless - spotlessly clean and being environmentally conscious, we also appreciated the use of glass bottles for water in the room and ceramic bottles for the toiletries in the shower.

Food and service in the restaurant were also first class - one of the best meals we've had in a long time!

Couldn't recommend highly enough.

We stayed for 3 nights in garden suite with hot tub. At £600.00 per night the housekeeping service was certainly not up to standard. Asked for an extra pillow at 10.am and after 3 phone calls one finally arrived at 10pm after yet another phone call.
No turn down one night and left with bathroom full of wet towels after using hot tub.
No shower cap apparently in whole hotel when requested.
All housekeeping issues seemed to be blamed on Covid, or change over of new staff.
Certainly not up to the standard we expected

Do you have to pay for breakfast or is included in the price?

When booking a room direct with the hotel, or on the hotel’s website, breakfast is included in the rate. If booking a room through an online travel agent, such as Expedia, breakfast is not included. In this case breakfast is charged at £16.95 per person.
