What a super find this is. Excellent friendly service. Our room wasn't huge but we were only there for one night; however, the facilities more than made up for that, had a lovely afternoon sitting in the garden area around the pool. Family friendly but not so much that it borders on a Butlin's type hotel! Also dog friendly which is refreshing to see. Nice bar areas including a terrace for sunny days/evenings; a pizza oven there. However our highlight was a fab meal in their restaurant Beresfords, could not fault it. Good choice on the menu and wine list and attentive service. I hope to return and will definitely recommend.

We chose this hotel to celebrate an 80th birthday, with 14 of us and 2 dogs. We stayed for 3 nights, and the staff were amazing from the moment we arrived. Given our number, and the fact that our older members have memory issues, the staff were patient and understanding - the waiter showed real empathy, as did the night manager. The outside space is fabulous - an outside pool with deckchairs and a zip line. The indoor pool was also great, and there were lots of places to sit and have some 'me time'. Loved the pizza oven! The chef was very friendly and gave our youngest member a free pudding. All in all, we were delighted with our choice and had a great stay. Thank you, Balmer Lawn!

Staff try very hard to please Location is good for cycling with direct access to forest tracks and also there is a bike store. However, not so good if you want to walk into Brockenhurst as it is along the main road, although there is a pavement. For the price, the rooms really should have air conditioning as they were extremely hot. Even when it isn't as hot as it has been it will still be necessary to open the windows and the problem with this is noise. The Lodge below the front windows is very noisy and also, despite being set well back from the road, there is a lot of traffic noise on the main road from around 5am as well as cars going over the cattle grid on the B road which runs down the side of the hotel. I was trying to sleep with earplugs and my head stuffed between two pillows. We had a family room with a smaller attached room for the children. This was even hotter than the main room as for safety the opening on the windows is restricted. My rating is mainly a reflection of not really being able to get a decent night's sleep given the price point of the hotel. Nice to have an indoor and outdoor pool. It is a shame that the tennis court has been removed. I have reviewed Berresfords separately.

Dear Wentworth1 Thanks for your detailed review of your recent stay with us. As you said, the recent weather was exceptionally hot and just as most of us do not have air conditioning in our homes neither do most hotels that started life in 1850. I was sorry to read that the combination of the open windows made sleeping difficult due to noise. We do hope that you will reconsider returning at some point and please remember to book directly with the hotel for the best rates and room allocations. We very much value our retuning customers and hope we can put things right for you next time.

Beautiful hotel the entrance and every was just stunning. Then to the spa it was disappointing the indoor pool was a nice size and the temperature of the water was lovely, more beds needed, but it is in need of some attention there were small holes in a couple of the walls and the windows definitely needed a good clean! The outdoor pool again needs attention of of the beds was broken so they swapped it for another after an hour my friends bed collapsed the back legs just give way. There were not enough beds or umbrellas around the pool. The patio area around the pool was gritty it definitely need a good sweep and jet wash! The treatment and the treatment area I could not fault at all! Afternoon tea as with so many places far tooo much sweet things and not enough savoury or the right balance and the scones were like bricks not great the other bits were okay. The restaurant area was beautiful. Overall a lovely day but would I go back probably not.

Dear889paulac Genuinely very disappointed to read this review, we have worked so hard during the lockdowns to improve our outside offerings. We have a new "deck" directly outside the indoor pool with all new sunbeds and umbrellas, the Savernake Terrace is also new. we regularly clean the terrace around the pool but will certainly look at this again. Personally, I am not a fan of jet-washing as it usually leave streak marks in the stone and makes them look new which is not what we want. Delighted to ready that you enjoyed our Spa Treatment area Saltus with it peaceful treatment rooms and dedicated relaxation area. The balance on the afternoon tea offering is a bit like trying to "knit with spaghetti" in terms of pleasing everyone's desire for savoury or sweet combinations. Thanks for saying how beautiful the restaurant is. I hope with the passage of time you will consider returning for another visit.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, nothing was too hard for the stay to do. Every person seemed invested in your experience, always checking if everything was ok, from cleanliness, to bar to food. Food - The restaurant was amazing, neither of us could find fault on any course. The staff were attentive without be overbearing, they listened to your requests and auctioned them, the bar staff went out of their way to help. The breakfast was lovely again cannot be faulted, even had Marmite (always a plus in my books) Hotel - we were here the weekend before 19 July and so the restrictions were in place, very impressed on how they dealt with the situation. Spa - You have to experience this some of the best therapists I have ever come across. Again a fantastic experience and stay and thank you for making ist special
