Absolutely lovely ! Our room was super, clean and larger than average. Every single member of staff were so helpful, exceptionally polite and smiley. Toby was a gem. Food was fabulous especially breakfast . Spa was lovely although small but the lady that looked after us was so thoughtful.

"What a delightful discovery! The warmth and helpfulness of the staff truly enhanced my experience. The room was not just comfortable but exquisitely beautiful, complemented by a captivating view of the river. The culinary delights served in the restaurant were nothing short of exceptional. Departing was a challenge as I didn't want to leave. I am already planning a return, eager to stay longer. Thank you for such a remarkable stay!"

Despite being rather empty when we arrived it took a while for someone to come and take us to our table, once sat we were poured a glass of cool and crisp Midas Prosecco and served some Canapés - Olive & Hummus Crostini, Roasted Duck with Pickled Veg & Salmon with Cream Cheese - all tasty enough and a nice touch to have with the Prosecco but the ‘bread’ based items seemed a little stale. To drink my husband ordered a Peroni - after waiting quite some time (we were on to the starters) our drinks hadn’t arrived, it turns out the Peroni tap wasn’t working but it took quite a while to come over and offer an alternative, when the alternative was chosen it took a while to arrive as well, by which time we had nearly finished the starters. In addition to the delay with the Peroni my rose took the same amount of time to arrive and was more on the warm side but had a decent flavour - all in all less than ideal. For starters I had beef tartare, cured egg yolk & sourdough croute, the beef was very tender and tasty but the cured egg yolk was a weird addition as it was very hard, the croute was very brittle and oily too. My husband’s starter of Trout gravlax, cured chalk stream trout, beetroot slaw, basil oil & caviar was very light and fresh, tasty enough but missing a depth of flavour. On to the mains my husband had the Roasted salmon fillet, chive crushed potatoes, tender steam broccoli, cherry tomatoes & dill butter sauce - all very well cooked with flakey fish along with a deliciously flavoured and balanced sauce, the tomatoes could have done with being in the oven longer but that’s all. I decided to go for the ‘Surf & Turf’ - Beef fillet, scallop, king prawns, creamed mash potatoes & red wine jus. It was perfect, well cooked prawns and scallops, spot on rare steak which was soft to cut through and the red wine jus was full of flavour- couldn’t fault this at all other than wishing it was bigger as I could have eaten it all over again. Finally on to desserts… Strawberry and mint chocolate parfait, hazelnut crumb & ganache - it appeared nice on paper but the flavour combination just didn’t work and wasn’t very good on the palate - plus the appearance was awful, it looked messy and unappealing. The Chocolate fondant, clotted cream & raspberries on the other hand was brilliant, just as gooey as you would expect with the right amount of clotted cream and tartness from the fresh raspberries. Despite the 3 courses and canapés we were still hungry upon getting home, which we’ve never experienced before when having a meal out. Overall, as Valentines dinners go and taking everything in to consideration it wasn’t a great experience, it put a bit of a downer on the evening when it should have given that little sparkle - we wouldn’t rush back for dinner based on this experience, which is a shame as we had drinks and platters last summer which were fab. We were expecting far more from The Captains Club.

Thank you for your feedback following your Valentine's meal with us and please accept my since apologies for any disappointment that you felt with any part of it. It is sad to see that even though enjoying your starters, mains (one of which was so 'perfect you could have eaten it all over again!') and a 'brilliant' chocolate fondant, that you only graded us as 2/5? You do not mention our wonderful crew who would have done their utmost to look after you on the night and who, if given the opportunity would have put right anything at all that you were disappointed with. We work incredibly hard to ensure that everyone leaves us happy but that also requires being told at the time, when something isn't perfect. We do hope that you will come and see us again soon and look forward to welcoming you back to the Captain's Club Hotel. With best wishes until then...

The food is OK but irritatingly the management still proclaim incorrectly that they do not own their car park. I am afraid Tim it is part of the dining experience getting fleeced for parking. Whoever may be interested just download the Land Registry deeds for £6 Captains Club owners are the Freeholder / Leaseholders but simply outsource enforcement presumably taking a cut.

It mystifies us as to why you seem to spend so much time writing reviews about this...are you simply trying to put a local, privately owned business down? We take huge pride in looking after our loyal guests, some of whom come here every day, are happy to pay for parking and happier still to ensure we remain part of the 'fabric' of Christchurch. Our guests are an extension of our Captain's Club family! Please, if you do not wish to be a part of our community, feel free to take your business elsewhere. Ours was the last free car park in the town and we are proud to say we still offer complimentary parking to all our overnight guests. With our best wishes...

Great place to stay with outstanding customer service. Was greeted very well, breakfast is good and is in a good location. Visited in late November the room was very spacious and was around Christmas time and the decorations were amazing. If i was in the area again I would defiantly have stayed.

My wife having recently recovered from a prolonged and serious illness, we decided on the spur of the moment to go for a long weekend away, not involving too much travelling. Although we have visited the CCH on many previous occasions for lunch we had never actually stayed there before but as I had recently received an email from them I called on Tuesday to check availability for that coming weekend and spoke to Katie in their reservations department who couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, and she even arranged a reserved disabled car parking space for us in the car park. We booked a double, river-facing room with a walk in shower on a bed, breakfast and dinner basis for 3 nights from Friday to Sunday, departing on Monday. The room, which I believe had been recently refurbished, had a wow factor on entering it with a wonderful view of the River Stour and very spacious with plenty of drawer space, seating and good lighting, tea and coffee making facilities and bottled water (which was replenished every day). Most importantly it was spotlessly clean. One other notable plus was the large size of the bath towels, rarely seen in most hotels these - normally not much bigger than a hand towel! We found ALL the staff, without exception, to be extremely friendly, pleasant, and efficient and we got the impression that this was a very happy 'team' who all enjoyed their respective jobs, which was reflected in the way they treated the guests. Breakfast was delightful with a good selection of fruit juices, cereals and pastries, complemented by a good choice of hot food. Likewise, dinner was also very enjoyable with a good selection of choices, all portions being generous , well cooked, and delicious. In both cases the service was superb but special thanks must go to Christian, the restaurant manager, for the personal attention he gives and the courtesy he shows to all the guests, constantly checking that they are happy with both the food and service. Special thanks also to James at reception who was also most courteous and helpful, but as I have said earlier 10 out of 10 to ALL the staff at the CCH. The bottom line is that having had such a lovely experience during our first stay at the CCH we have already made a reservation for another 3 night stay in April, this time bringing some friends along as well. I'm pondering whether to actually send this review as I am sure it will encourage many others to stay at this wonderful hotel and, if this is the case, I may find it difficult to book any future reservations. However, as I really think it deserves the accolades, here it is.

Myself and family members recently visited the Captains Club for afternoon tea over the course of several hours in the afternoon/evening. Sadly I found the entire experience rather average. The décor and fittings, though clean and in good condition, gave the entire place a sterile and cold aesthetic. Afternoon tea was pleasant enough - with the exception of one or two rather dry scones that felt a little past their sell-by date. I wasn't at all impressed with the quality of the coffee - though my companions enjoyed various teas. I will say that the waiting staff were excellent: attentive but not overbearing, efficient and pleasant to engage with. Sadly, we too were caught in the car park trap (I see others have experienced the same issue). We actually did pay the full amount - but sadly over-ran our initial slot by enough time that we now face a £60 fine (£100 if we have the gall to challenge it and fail). I'm sure the response - if one is forthcoming - from the management will attempt to abdicate responsibility on the grounds that the car park is no longer within their purview. Whilst that may technically be true, It's also true to say that - if you ask at the front-desk - your parking can be arranged free of charge; suggesting the dissociation isn't quite so complete. For an establishment offering 4 star accommodation, fine dining and luxury throughout, we left somewhat underwhelmed; and the parking issue really has cheapened the whole affair. It might not be your responsibility Captain's Club, but it certainly tarnished our experience and - in our minds - is associated with your brand.

Thank you for your feedback Stephen and we were delighted read that you found our crew to be excellent when you visited us recently. It is sad that you found that as a whole we were sterile and had a 'cold aesthetic' though! So many people, both local and from further afield also love our wonderful crew and our modern and sleek look and feel and we've become their second homes. As you probably know, you can't please all of the people all of the time so we trust you find your home-from-home out there somewhere. Our reception team are always happy to extend a parking ticket (complimentary) if dining guests accidentally overrun so anyone is able to ask. As soon as guests leave the car park though, they remain at the mercy of a remote ANPR camera like so many car parks today. Wishing you all the best and maybe see you in the future...

This was our third stay at the Captains Club and as usual it didn't disappoint! Lovely room, lovely staff and all in all a great stay, just a shame it was only one night. We were joined by family on the Saturday for the bottomless brunch event, it was a lovely afternoon and we would definitely book again, it was great value for money, nothing was too much for the staff, they were super generous with the prosecco and cocktails and the food was really good. Can't wait to visit again! Thank you.

Had a spa day and afternoon tea with my mum today. First time visiting and we had a very warm welcome. Initially the front of house staff member could not find our booking for afternoon tea as I was told by the Spa that it would be 2pm which seemed to not be the case as the afternoon teas don't start until 3pm. Possibly a misunderstanding from my part, but they very quickly rectified this for me and got us seated straight away with a lovely tea! The different savoury options were a delight as normally you just get sandwiches. Also lovely to have a stand of cakes/sandwiches each and a pot of tea each! Very professional, friendly service in the restaurant. Then, on to the spa, again, a very warm welcome and very professional. The girls were all lovely and the treatments superb! Everywhere was very clean and tidy. Just a few slight criticisms was that the pool was very dark at the bottom, so with the dark lighting aswell wasn't that easy to navigate our way in down the steps, especially for my mum who is her 70s. Also, only having 2 changing rooms with the toilets inside them made me feel I needed to rush to get ready in case anyone was waiting for the loo. But these were only minor reasons and would not put me off from returning. The cheese and wine evening sounds very tempting 😊

Thank you so much Lili for your valued feedback and we are so delighted that you had such a great spa day and delicious afternoon tea with your mum. Yes care as needed as the bottom of the pool is a dark stone but hopefully the rails guided her so she felt safe. Also there are toilets just outside the spa if someone needs to use them so feel free to take your time when changing. Unfortunately, space is of the essence so there is no extra space for additional changing facilities but thankfully our bijou spa only takes 8 so it is not usually an issue. With best wishes until we see you again...

Another lovely 2 night birthday stay for my husband last weekend, at The Captains Club- it is our very special place and we always look forward to staying and catching up with the lovely staff that we have got to know over the years. Our room was ready earlier which was a real bonus- the rooms are always lovely and clean with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The bed is so comfortable, we slept well. Love the new bathroom designs too very stylish and colourful. We enjoyed a swim in the pool in the afternoons on both days, which was very relaxing followed by dinner in the Club restaurant on both nights. The food was very good, as it always is, plentiful and freshly cooked, especially the home made soups on the dinner menu ( compliments to the Chef) , and the breakfasts were excellent too. We have stayed here 7 or 8 times now and you always know what you are going to get- great service by all the lovely cheerful staff including Harry, Luke , Jacob , Katie and Annie to name a few- Harry seems to know what we wanted before we did ( he's fab) and is so good at his job, as is Luke, - very knowledgeable on the menus and bought my husband a 21st badge even though he was 65 ! - very kind , also Jacob was so helpful when we had a couple of little issues this time, which were swiftly sorted out by Annie and Katie. Thank you all. It is like catching up with family - (in fact I was mistaken this time for Harry's Auntie which made us smile :) We are now planning our next trip and hopefully it won't be too long before we are back "home" again! Thank you Captains Club x
