Lovely huge room. Big bed was very comfortable. Sofa, chair, desk and chair, coffee table, mini fridge, large screen TV lovely big bathroom with powerful shower over bath. Complimentary shampoo, gel etc. Quiet, no traffic noise. Fab swimming pool and sauna and steam room. The salmon for evening meal was gorgeous but eating at restaurants in Metro Centre can save money. We only ate in on one evening out of our 4.

This is a very average Marriott, and as someone who has been here a few times due to family living nearby, I’ve had varying levels of service, but when you’ve paid £250 for two nights there are a few things you would expect. Firstly, there is no housekeeping. This wasn’t explained at all to me when checking in. I do not understand how this makes a hotel more Covid safe, but let’s say it does: you need to leave plenty of shower gels/towels/tea, coffee, milks etc to account for this. I cannot fully understand how a room this expensive is one that I have to clean myself. Secondly when I did call to reception to get more items it rang and rang. I had to go down myself to get items. To be fair, the staff member was polite and apologised. Thirdly I had no iron in my room. There should be, and this was only discovered on the morning of a funeral when I required it. I will admit it wasn’t the biggest issue in the world to have one sent to the room but for the Marriott it’s these little things that you expect to not have to do. In the moment, considering the event I was attending, it just got to me that these little things weren’t being done. Otherwise, the hotel remains average. The staff are always friendly, though it’s one of the few Marriott hotels where they don’t seem to acknowledge status of a member. This usually isn’t an issue but then the experience doesn’t match either… I can’t speak for the bar or the gym or pool, but I have heard good things about them.

The room was incredibly dusty, even when we asked for the room to be cleaned, we popped out for an hour and was assured it would be cleaned when we got back. This wasn't the case when we returned to the room. The cleaners came whilst we were in the room, emitting an odor that lingered and didn't really make the situation any better. We called reception several times and had no response. The customer service in general was extremely slow, we were told beforehand we could gain early check i, when we arrived we had to wait 2 hours for the room to actually be ready and even after that it still wasn't cleaned efficiently especially given the extra care that should be taken due to COVID. The only one redeeming quality hence the one star was the pool, the pool was the only redeeming quality. The location was good too, however it doesn't make up for the lack of basic hygiene levels across the entire hotel.

We are still here in room 401 arrived yesterday. Noone told us at check in that there is no airconditioning, and no housekeeping! What kind of hotel/marriott is this? I was just told by the very nice front of house staff that there is a Marriot policy of no housekeeping for three days as part of “covid protocol”. So this means a hotel stay in a room which is never cleaned, waste baskets not emptied and no fresh towels or toiletries. How can you charge your guests for a hotel stay without providing the most basic of hotel services? To be fair to the reception staff when I complained they sent us up some fresh towels and toiletries as am sure even they were embarrassed. Shame on Marriot. No one should stay in this hotel.

I'm currently still in the hotel room 210 today I'm checking out even though I'm suppose to stay till Saturday the 14th I like my reviews to be truthful hotel itself is in a good location well it is for us walking distance to the metrocenter and there's a asda close by pizza hut and McDonald's and many more to go in to city center with deans taxis is between £10 and £11 pounds taxi company is faultless anyway let's get on with the review so we arrived on the 7/8/2021 check in was swift staff where very welcoming and nice our first room was on the 3rd floor room seemed OK there's a lift to every floor and stairs our first room looked on to IKEA the first thing I noticed while we arrived in our room was the heat so first thing we done is put the Aircon on there's instructions right beside it you can hear it starting up like a big fan so we fully unpacked as we are hear for a week our first trip since June 2019 due to covid 19 so we where excited to be getting away so we fully unpacked plenty drawers and wardrobe space so after unpacking we went over to asda got some cans off juice for the room chocolate etc for those early nights in so all was good the hotel was big plenty seating in the bar and reception area so the first night we went over to the metro for food we arrived back in the room around 8pm the room was roasting cans where hot chocolate wasn't looking healthy so we called down to reception they where quick at attending the night porter arrived really nice guy he set the air con asked us to leave it 10 minutes and it should work so we left it an hour basically didn't work it was a big fan blowing hot air so we called down again he brought us a fan and a big bucket off ice so we opened the window and had the fan we fell asleep eventually but we woke back up at 3.30 am both off us sweating chocolate melted cans roasting and we couldn't fall back to sleep so we where pretty annoyed at this stage so we tossed and turned all morning so I went to use the toilet around 4.05am opened the toilet door to be greeted by a sewerage smell the sink was full off disgusting water and toilet was backed up couldn't use either so we didn't call down straight away as we knew nothing could be done till the morning so we called down around 8 a manager appeared around 9am he had a look and said use will need to move rooms but we won't have anything till 2pm so pack your stuff and use the shower in the leisure area and toilet in the lobby to be fair I was getting annoyed at this stage lack off sleep having to pack move rooms up and down the stairs start off the holiday was ruined wife was upset and wanted to go home after the horrible time we have all had I think our expectations where high just excited to get away but this ruined or start off the week so we finally got in to our room after spending the morning repacking chucking our sweets and chocolate out 12 Krispy creme donughts out we where annoyed so we got room 210 2nd floor so in we go guess what air con isn't working in this room so we called down we where giving 2 buckets off ice and a fan I wasn't happy at all fan was blowing hot air at us we both woke up with a headache next morning so mood was getting worse until the cleaner came In she said its warm in here we replied we know we have hardly slept she gave us a wee Aircon machine around 9am we plugged it in put the hose out the window the cold air was so great we actually went to sleep until 14.50 we needed it so whoever the cleaner was thank-you so much we have slept great since still doesn't make the start any better the staff did say sorry but I felt they wanted to do more for us but they couldn't we weren't even offered a discount or anything if I'm honest I feel for a hotel that offers air con that's non existing is false advertising everyone we spoke to had there windows open fans in there room this is not great I have to admit it here but the need to sort there customer service out and get the air con sorted and add a mini fridge to every room this would make a big difference anyway its 7.18am Friday the 13th off August 2021 and I'm checking out very soon sun Monday Tuesday was ruined we are shattered and can't wait to get home to our beds we usually holiday around 6 times a year usually 2 to newcastle 1 to London and the rest abroad but it won't be the marriot again in Newcastle staff are nice and try there best but you can tell they hold back on alot
