Location of the place is fab - 5 mins from Symonds Yat, 10 mins from Ross on Wye, less than 15 mins to the Forest of Dean.
Breakfast is included and the full English was ok (quality of sausages and bacon weren't great) and coffee was undrinkable, so next day went for tea with poached eggs and that was perfect. The meal we had on one night was typical pub fare, dessert was great, service was so-so (one new new lady that didn't have a clue what was going on and a guy that did but barely cracked a smile). They did however keep our drinks coming! :o)
The WiFi was slow and sometimes stopped.
Our evening meal food order was wrong, but they did sort it.
Very limited desert menu.
On the first morning, there were menus on the tables and milk was provided with the tea. Day 2, no menus and no milk.
Only 1 member of staff at breakfast, they took food orders from at least 5 tables before passing them to the kitchen. Service was slow. Baked beans & tomatoes were cold. Rest of the food was very hot. Not sure how you do that.
Heard other guests complaining, so all was not well.
The room we were in was a good size, had all necessary amenities and was pretty clean. The only thing in regards to the room that was negative was the fact the walls were rather thin, so much so you can hear the person in room next door urinating… made me think twice when I went haha.
Another thing to point out in regards to the room, as we weren’t made aware until we arrived, is their charges for dogs. They don’t charge for your furry friend to stay but if there’s any mess you are charged heavily. I completely understand wanting to keep mess to a minimum and being a base for walkers there’s probably a whole host of messes that have been cleaned up, but a heads up is nice. I believe they said it was something that was newly in place, so it may be mentioned now via emails or on their website. Luckily we had brought several blankets and laid them all over the floor just incase our dog had any smidge of mud on his paws to avoid a charge.
The only other problem I had was the food wasn’t amazing. It was alright and it filled a hole but overall it was rather bland and really dry. There is a good selection breakfast-wise but with Covid restrictions you order at your table (which is completely understandable) and you’re given a small full English or whatever you ordered, I feel maybe it would be better to just make those portions slightly larger, as I felt rude asking for more so went without.
Overall I would recommend the Inn on the Wye as its in such a nice spot
No fruit, raisins, prunes etc provided.Breakfast first day was fine, rest of the week not so fine, pot of tea requested, waiter forgot had to be reminded,
Breakfast day 2,3,4,5,6 were disasters, fried eggs burnt, bacon rashers became crackling and sausages so overcooked could not be cut. Glad the we did not use restaurant.
Double chalet only had 1 chair, en suite very cramped, 3 days only 1 hand towel provided.
When complaint was made, staff shortages were to blame. I have renamed it FAULTY TOWERS on the Wye because for service and food it was not worth 3 out of 10
The cooked breakfast was ordered and served quite quickly by a charming waitress but was greasy with hard bacon and hash browns oozing fat. The carpeted floor needed vacuuming and there was an empty plastic crate near our table.
There is a night access door used when returning late. This requires walking through a litter strewn yard to the car park. This hotel needs a complete makeover. The staff were friendly but clearly overworked. We were pleased to leave.
