Beyond the magnificent facade of the Mansion House which greets guests on arrival, lies a 5 star, country house hotel on the border of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, which is like no other in the home counties. However, our guests quickly discover that behind the imposing grandeur of Luton Hoo, the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. Excellent transport links between St. Pancras and Luton Parkway railway stations mean we are easily reached from London or Cambridge. And as one of the most convenient hotels in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire for accessing Luton airport, we are within easy reach of cities across Europe.

Lovely hotel and spa, staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was huge and very clean, lots of space and facilities to enjoy. The grounds were beautiful and perfect for a morning/early afternoon walk after a heavy breakfast. Spa facilities were nice, could have been cleaner and as we checked out on the Saturday it was frustrating to see other customers go into the pool area early just to put their towels down and then leave for upwards of 2 hours. I would recommend the spa enforce a rule that if you leave your belongings/towels on a lounger and do not use it for 30 minutes plus, your stuff will be moved to the side. Only downside to the weekend was the poor quality of food and selection at Adams Brasserie. The staff were very apologetic and did everything they could to rectify the issue but when I do come back I will not book a table at the restaurant. Overall a very relaxing break at a brilliant hotel.

We had a brief but very enjoyable stay. The main hotel, the Mansion House, has a very impressive columned facade & is set in over 1000 acres of Capability Brown designed parkland. It dates back to the late 18thc when it was home to former prime minister, the 3rd Earl of Bute. The property benefited from a lavish Belle Époque style makeover in the early 1900’s & a further big bucks update in 2007. The glory & grandeur of its illustrious past is reflected & retained in the lavish state rooms, & the Wernher Restaurant is particularly magnificent, reminiscent of Versailles. Reception staff were superb & we liked the hotel immediately. The hotel has 228 bedrooms, 35 within the main house, others spread across the estate. The scattering of accommodation means it doesn’t feel like a big hotel, & we didn’t see many other guests aside from in the restaurants. Our room was in the Country Club, a short walk or drive from the main house. Complimentary black cabs are on hand to run guests around the estate, a cool touch. Our bedroom was huge & well equipped, with a sweet garden patio area. Country Club rooms are decorated in a contemporary style, Manor House rooms are more classically done. Adjacent to the the Country Club is Adam’s Brasserie where we had dinner which was good, as was service. The Wernher Restaurant is more formal, offering a la carte & tasting menus. As mentioned, it’s a stunning room. Breakfast is served there, so even if you don’t opt for dinner, you’ll hopefully get to enjoy its sumptuous surroundings. Luton Hoo is a multi functional operation, boasting an 18 whole golf course, spa, tennis courts, croquet, walking trails, shooting, plus sizeable wedding/conference facilities.
A wonderful stay.

Myself and my two sisters booked a 1 Night Ultimate Spa Escape Break on spaseekers.com for ourselves and our mother for Christmas.
The reviews looked excellent and we were really looking forward to a nice relaxing night away with treatments.

Myself and my 2 sisters and mum arrived on Sunday 2nd February at 11am. We arrived in plenty of time and checked in at the main hotel. We also checked into the spa at approximately 11:30am before heading off for our light lunch at the 19th Restaurant.
We ordered a 2nd bottle of wine and luckily my sister checked the amount as the barman had mistakenly charged her £430 instead of £43.
We had to leave the 19th Restaurant due to it being cold and settled in next door at Adam’s Brasserie.
At 2:30pm only 30mins before our treatments were due to start (55mins followed by 25mins) I received a call from the spa informing me one of the therapists was off sick so our treatments had to be changed to accommodate the loss of therapist. I decided that only one of us should be affected but instead of a large block of 1hr20mins of continuous treatment I was only offered 25mins on Sunday at 4:30pm, and 25mins on the Monday at 11am.

The spa was lovely and the treatments very good but it was a real shame I couldn't have my allocated time. They did offer a partial refund but I was really looking forward to a relaxing 1hr20mins. I understand staff sickness cannot be predicted but I am amazed that we only received 30mins notice. I am also suspicious that because we were on a spaseekers break we were sacrificed over other guests who booked directly with the hotel. I was also offered a return trip to have the remaining time but we live 2hrs away from the hotel, and I work full time, so this was not realistic.

We did have a lovely meal at Adam’s Brasserie.
The rooms near the spa were spacious but very dated.

Breakfast was in the main house and spoiled as the maitre d sat us right by the door despite there being plenty of tables. Every time someone walked in we were exposed to a hefty draught. The door was also left open recurrently. We ordered breakfast and toast and I soon asked politely for more butter and the maitre d literally threw it onto the table. Instead of removing the empty butter dish she literally threw the new dish onto the old one. She was very dismissive and rude. Following her behaviour we were reluctant to ask to be moved to a less draughty table.
It was very disappointing and not what I was expecting from a 5* hotel.
The spa treatments were excellent but I was disappointed at the organisation and communication.
I would not recommend it.

Dear 37sallyn, Thank you for your review and I was sorry to learn of your problems both in our Spa and Breakfast Restaurant. Unfortunately when one of the team reports being unwell, this is a little out of the hotels control. Although our Therapists tried to accommodate you in the best way they could, I understand your frustration. In regards to breakfast, I am sorry you found one team member dismissive. This has been addressed with the manager of the restaurant who has assured me these comments have been addressed and the individual retrained in the art of hospitable service. Once more thank you for your comments and should you reconsider visiting Luton Hoo I offer my service to you in making a reservation directly. Kind regards Jonathan Brown Hotel Manager

I stayed here with a friend on a spa break overnight. It is a stunning entrance to the hotel with a winding tree lined driveway and the mansion house is just stunning. What an arrival - you can see why royalty and VIPs used to stay here. We had booked a room in the country club annex (not mansion house - it was clear when booking so not sure why people are surprised. The price point should give them a clue where their room would be!) and this suited us really well as it was next to the spa and the brasserie where we ate breakfast and evening meal. Our parking was right next to the annex too (a drive away from the mansion house) so I loved being able to wear my spa dressing gown to the room/car/spa! What luxury!

Our deluxe twin room was lovely. On the ground floor so we had a beautiful terrace amongst the trees with a little table and chairs. The room was really big as was the bathroom with double sinks, a quick filling steaming hot bath and Molton brown miniature smellies! The beds were really cosy and we slept well. There was an excellent choice of food on the dinner inclusive rate set menu and we enjoyed the brasserie.

The pool and changing rooms in the spa are clean and the spa staff are really helpful. We didn’t realise that children used the pool (as it is also the hotel pool) so check out timings if you think you are on a relaxing spa day! Some slots are child free which we wished we had known in advance. Our room wasn’t ready when we checked in but the reception sent our room key to the spa for after our treatments so that was well thought out. Our massages were good and we loved the fish tank in the relaxation room!

The only reason for 4 star rating not 5 is that some areas of customer service in the restaurant and with housekeeping need a bit of refining to reflect the hotel’s 5 star rating and higher end prices. I have emailed the hotel directly with these suggestions.

We really enjoyed our relaxing stay last week. Thank you.

Went with my daughter for a little bit of R&R, so dissapointed. Almost impossible to get food on site. We pre-booked breakfast and one afternoon tea. They were mediocre at best. Breakfast over cooked. I have had better in a cafe. Afternoon tea was lacking variety and sandwiches were dry. Everywhere else was ''No we are fully booked.'' We booked a twin room and that was fine, clean, air con worked well (it was 30 degrees outside) but only one of everything supplied 1 sachet of milk each 1 teabag, coffee etc. 1 soap 1 shampoo to share...seemed stingy. Staff were happy to bring more but.... I didnt want to have to ask. Signage awful finding our way round took time. No info in room as to what was on and when, either in hotel or locally. Lots of service charges we werent told about. For example we booked a joint spa session. They split our booking at the last minute so my daughter had to have hers 2hrs after me. They cost us £95 each, when we paid our bill they had gone up to £105 a gratuity apparently. Gardens were nice

This is a stunning property. When you arrive your re expecting really great things and the staff and rooms and overall look did not disappoint. But because of this I expected something individual or outstanding but instead it was quite ordinary. Added to that people had reserved all the seats by the pool even though they were not in evidence. And when I went for a treatment there was not enough space for everyone and the staff seemed stressed.

Not so ‘Happy Silver Wedding’ celebrations.

Luton Hoo Romantic package inclusive of bottle of house champagne chocolate dipped strawberries three course dinner and full English breakfast, use of spa facilities Wi-Fi etc.

After checking in we were shown to our room which was in the country club area of the estate, located just above the golf locker room area and golf pro shop. The room was clean but could have done with a general spruce up, there was some wall paper starting to peel off the wall and the room in my opinion looked tired.

We chose the Romantic package to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary as we wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. The package comprised of a bottle of house champagne, chocolate dipped strawberries and a three course dinner which we upgraded to the Wernher restaurant.
On arrival to our room the champagne and the chocolate dipped strawberries weren’t anywhere to be found? We spoke to reception who said they would speak to ‘Adams brasserie’ and get this put into our room before we went down for dinner, nothing arrived?

At 7pm we went down for dinner, we spoke to reception and explained we still hadn’t had our champagne or chocolate dipped strawberries. David on reception was very helpful and agreed for us to have our champagne with our dinner and he would make sure that the strawberries were in our room for when we returned after dinner. David also arranged for a complimentary drink to be put behind the bar for us as a way of an apology.
On returning to our room after our meal we found there was still no strawberries, also there was no hot water. The water was tepid ,we just thought at this point it was late at night and that the hot water had obviously been utilised by the other rooms and that everything will be fine in the morning.

Waking up in the morning and turning on the shower it was evident that the tepid water of the previous night was more of a problem than we thought. The water was stone cold. We again contacted reception to advise them of this, reception were going to speak to the duty manager and would call me back. After a short period of time we had a callback. We were offered a change of rooms as this was a larger problem than anticipated and the boiler was out of action that fed the room / block we were in.
We declined the offer to move rooms as we were checking out shortly anyway so didn’t see the point in moving all of our bags to another room only to check out shortly after.
We spoke to the stand in duty manager who made a small adjustment to our bill due to the lack of hot water and in my opinion poor service. We still didn’t get the chocolate dipped strawberries from our romantic package…
We were left feeling immensely short changed and very disappointed with the whole experience. This should have been an amazing experience, a weekend to remember and great celebration of 25 years of marriage. We didn’t get a 5 star experience from this 5 star hotel, and we will remember it for all the wrong reasons. To sum up, Incredibly Disappointed.

We had an excellent two-night DBB “Country House Break Away” at Luton Hoo Hotel deal during the school holidays. We stayed in the cheapest family accommodation available (Country Club Executive Room, situated near the Spa and Adam’s Brasserie which was perfect for going swimming, cycling, and the morning children’s activities). Our room was large, came with a Nespresso coffee machine, was situated on the ground floor, and even had a private patio area backing onto the orchard. The hotel wi-fi was good in our room: it registered a healthy 26.5 Mbps on my phone.

We had breakfast at Adam’s Brasserie and enjoyed our American Pancakes; bread basket, fresh fruit with yogurt. In the evening we ate at Adam’s Brasserie and the Wernher restaurant (on consecutive nights) – the experience of eating in the Wernher restaurant, and the food we had, was worth the cost of the meal upgrade.

During the day we went swimming; borrowed bikes from the Spa and cycled around the grounds via Warren Weir, the lake and the boathouse; and played tennis. We also had a walk around the grounds, saw the grass tennis court and its gazebo, visited the rock gardens (where we sheltered from the rain for a while in the cave); then whilst walking back a LH taxi driver spotted us and gave us a lift to the mansion house. Each morning there is an organised children’s activity – my son thoroughly enjoyed the football session held on the hard tennis courts. There was also a children’s treasure trail around the grounds where you had to find certain things (e.g. Boat House, A Peacock, Gazebo, LH Umbrella etc) and take a photo of it – this was great fun and filled in quite a bit of time.

All in all an excellent stay that made up slightly for our main holiday being cancelled due to Covid-19.

I hope I am the exception but hopefully the photos attached testify our awful experience here. Please note that the poor experience only relates to the food. I would expect something like this to be made by my children, not a 5 star hotel. In fact, the sandwiches looked like they were leftovers from another guest. The service was average - whilst the staff were friendly and polite, but I felt that for the location and price, they seemed inexperienced compared to other luxurious hotels and stately home locations (e.g. one server poured tea which went all over the table the last time I was here). I am sure I will be avoiding this place from now onwards. It is a shame that I won’t get my time back.
