New people took over this hotel September 2022 and it is not the main part of their business. They sell outdoor wear at fairs/markets etc and indeed have erected a marquee in front of the hotel to do this. The fact that it is not their priority is clear. In addition the hotel is now used to house homeless people. They are mainly using the upstairs rooms, and guests use ground floor rooms. Room was spacious and bed clean, although cobwebs in room and no protectors on mattress or pillowcases. Reception not staffed and clearly guests are not a priority. I agree with other comments re bar, although everyone friendly by their own admission they need to close early to get the others out so they don't cause trouble! Breakfast was ok-juice, cereal ,toast and cooked. Served to table and hot and not greasy. At checkout got accused of not paying for breakfast when I had paid at booking.

We stayed at the Hotel because we had a family wedding at their onsite function room. Clueless and untrained Staff, Ruined the Wedding Reception and the entire hotel experience. Waited 40 min to check in as there was no staff present and just a contact number on the check-in window that did not work. I had booked two rooms on the same booking (family and a double) and they assigned us rooms on opposite sides of the hotel despite the hotel being nearly empty. The Rooms were like a Grot-bag, Blackpool Doss House that had no heat when we arrived. A sticky Weatherspoon's carpet would have been cleaner. The beds were Rock Hard foam Mattress that you could host an MMA or Suma match on. The Shower did not work in one of the rooms, so we all ended up using the second rooms shower. There was no point in complaining as all the staff had already proved how incompetent they all were. We just did our best to not show anything was wrong so as not to upset the bride. The Bar for the wedding reception was not stocked or prepared to host a wedding reception, Both the beer and Cider barrels were empty, and the Barman did not know how to change the Barrels. The Soft drinks were flat, so the Mixers were disgusting. Two wedding guests had to jump behind the bar to show the Barman how to change barrels and do mixers and they basically worked most of the night. The Buffet was a complete Joke as it was an hour late due to no staff and what the hotel produced was shockingly bad. Stone Cold meat from Tesco's (beef and Ham), Bread rolls, Pizza fingers, a Sprinkle of potato wedges and Chicken Drumsticks that looked under cooked. Since the change of ownership, the place has been run into the Ground and I can’t see this place surviving much longer.

Great parking basic rooms but comfortable ideal for stop over. Owner was very accommodating was surprised to read all the 1 star reviews as we found it ideal for our needs. Breakfast was small but tasty and plenty of cereal available aswell. Will definitely stay there again

Cold unwelcoming room. Smallest bathroom that you couldn’t swing a cat in. Threadbare stair carpet. Was only there for one night and glad that was all. Would not recommend to anyone. Only good points was it’s location and parking on site. Needs modernising desperately

Urine stained mattress, no mattress protector, mould in corner of shower, broken glass in mirror, walked out after checking room but having to fight for refund. Unfit room and generally run-down hotel.

The whole hotel was shabby and not too clean but that was not a surprise as there was hardly any staff at the hotel, there was no Breakfast despite us having paid for it, and the only staff evident were a chambermaid and the maintenance man who were doing their best to help people but were unable to as it wasn’t their job they were trying to do. There was a very rude man who I spoke to on the phone when trying to organise a refund for the non existent breakfast, apparently the chef was away due to a bereavement, but no alternative arrangements had been made despite them telling us on both evening that there would be breakfast the next morning. We did eventually get our refund but it took a lot of phone calls and nearly a month for it to come through. The only good thing about the hotel was the situation as it was close to where we wanted to be, it was a real shame to see a beautiful old and historic building neglected in this way, we were looking forward to staying there as we had been told by friends what a lovely hotel it was but that was obviously before it changed hands last year. We will not be staying again or recommending it to our friends

We arrived around 8pm and genuinely thought the hotel was a dosshouse. There were drunk people outside and the reception was tired and dated. The room itself was OK again tired and dated but clean. We used this as a stop on our way up to Scotland so was only here 1 night however it wasn't worth the money it cost

Comfy bed, very clean bedroom. Bathroom clean and adequate, very small. Breakfast hit and miss, first morning all ok, cereal fruit juice, drinks and toast on offer, and slightly greasy but tasty cooked breakfast. Second morning there were no staff in the building, so I rang the landline, chap who answered told me staff member was coming soon. Half hour later we were able to have breakfast. Too far to walk into city centre, but excellent and frequent bus service from just outside.

Me and my dad have a bad night I am shocked how dirty our room was with a cup left with old coffee in.Used towel left on floor . In general the room was in poor condition .The staff nowhere to been seen or heard ,so couldn't complain .I wouldn't recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Carlisle to stop in this place.
